Don't worry, these unmarked units will be scaled back after they end up too many off-duty officers committing traffic violations

3:20 drug bust turns out to be a dude suffering from SICKLE-CELL ANEMIA having prescription bud.... Volusia County you couldn't find a better stop to showcase your fancy unmarked units?
@sherryc62282 жыл бұрын
This was a great portrayal of just because you may have a medical need, it still needs to be legally obtained, transported, and used. This includes: prescription use does not nean ‘not’ under the influence.

@@sherryc6228maybe you didn’t watch the video… they clearly state that they “followed this guy until he did something wrong” and that was said right after explaining to the camera that during training they memorize obscure laws to be able to basically pull over whoever they want whenever they want. Police are good and unmarked cars can be very useful, but this video made them look like complete tyrants who’s enemy is the general public.

@@sherryc6228 Not sure if this is sarcastic, but if not congratulations on the most mature response to a youtube comment I've ever seen. I get the marijuana laws, and if this guy was transporting in a technically illegal way, then he has no defense. My issue is with the initial stop, and the reasoning for it. In my opinion, police shouldn't be following civilians in an attempt to catch them committing minor traffic infractions. I think it is safe to say that everyone speeds from time-to-time. Everyone rolls through the occasional stop sign. I made my original comment because it seemed like these officers were blatantly following cars BEFORE they committed any infractions, in order to hopefully get something they could record for their PR team. I am very anti-criminal, and by extension pro-police to an extent. I am not at all one of those people who will condemn police in every circumstance. I believe that bringing attention to instances where police overstep boundaries actually helps the overall community improve.

I should point out that storing a firearm, loaded or otherwise, within a glove box is perfectly legal in Florida and you do NOT need a license to carry a firearm to do so, per F.S. 790.251 (short title, "Preservation and Protection of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Motor Vehicles Act of 2008"). Observing a firearm in a glove box during the course of a traffic stop not is not probable cause for arrest. It does not even rise to the level of reasonable suspicion. It was the knowledge of the drivers status as a convicted felon coupled with observation of a firearm visible in plain sight, which gave rise to the probable cause. That's a very important distinction, and people who lawfully carry in their vehicle shouldn't be made to question the lawfulness of their conduct because the sheriff misstated the facts.

Speeding increases the likelihood of an accident, it is not always a victimless crime and you don’t know when it might cause tragedy. As far as the medical cannabis part near the end- call and talk to your local/state representatives

@@ItsShatter A person shouldn't be treated like a criminal until they've created a victim. This is more about generating money through coercion. Private sector solutions to the inherent dangers of driving have been far more productive.

@@drumdad1242 By that logic, we should allow people to drive when they are highly intoxicated, texting, or exhibiting other forms of recklessness. So long as they haven't injured or killed anyone, yet, then it is okay. Does that seem reasonable?

@@ItsShatter I don't think it's a good idea to be careless and put others in danger but I think solutions for these types of social problems are far more likely to be found through the private sector solutions. Safer cars, education, self driving cars, etc.
@ItsShatter2 жыл бұрын
@@drumdad1242 I just think a person should be treated like a criminal when they’ve committed a crime, not created a victim. Truly victimless crimes (e.g., possession/use of drugs) are one thing and I personally disagree with laws against them. However, when a crime, such as not obeying the speed limit, increases the likelihood to create victims, we ought not wait until victims are created to take action. Solutions from the private sector are great but they aren’t the whole picture, some people just don’t care until they are negatively affected by their own irresponsible actions.

All a revenue grab. Not a single study shows any societal benefits to unmarked LEO's. 1:38 Proof of the revenue grab. Explain how the "obscure" improves safety? Obsure tag? One bulb out on a multi bulb indicator? One tag light out while the other is operational? 1:44 Explain that son... Why can't they all be in marked vehicles? It is clearly not a resource problem. The one and only thing missing is the light bar on top. 1:58 Why are civilians playing military dress up?

@EdwardGriffin2 жыл бұрын
In Florida you don't need a permit to have a gun in your glove box, but in all 50 states you can't be a felon in possession. If you are ever unsure about the legitimacy of an unmarked car that is trying to pull you over, slow down, acknowledge them, and proceed to a well lit safe place to stop. In some states their legislatures were so concerned about police impersonators that they prohibit unmarked cars from making traffic stops. Florida allows for stopping in a safe place.
@baddriversofthenorcalarea5002 жыл бұрын
There is not a single state in the US where unmarked cars are prohibited from making stops. This is an extremely common misconception due to the vague wording of the legislation. What they are prohibited from doing is being used primarily for traffic enforcement, like sitting on the road catching speeders. They can still make stops.
@jamesquinn52812 жыл бұрын
You are correct. You can definitely acknowledge them and call 911 for a marked unit. I would not pull over until a marked vehicle is present. You can also have a gun anywhere in your vehicle as long as it's in a compartment. A holster is a compartment. So under your seat or out of plain view in a holster is also legal without a CCW.

LEO training is a joke, not to mention the minimum qualifications (19 years old and a GED). What the Sheriff is saying is BS. This is just another stream of revenue, arrests and tickets instead of educating the public when pulled over and deterrence by marked vehicles. I have one of my houses in Royal Palms. I'll give him a shout next time I see him riding around on his bike.
