I was 18 in 1979 when this song first came out, and yesterday the tune popped in my head. Don't know how or why, as I doubt it's ever been played on the radio in Perth (Western Australia) since then. I love these "novelty tunes." This tune has a nice lilting sound to it, and the female lead singers voice is perfect. The lyrics are funny too!!

The time signature for this is so different to other tracks, her voice is amazing
@williamsheingorn4431
@williamsheingorn4431 2 жыл бұрын
I’m thinking it’s a 6/8 time signature Stress is on 1st and a bit less on 4th beat of the eighth notes Gives feeling of continuous motion,like merry-go-round Also,Wreck of Edmond Fitzgerald is written in this time signature....again,the waves of the Great Lakes giving the feel of continuous motion Also,Billy Joel “Piano Man”…..easy to hear the 6/8 identical time signature as “Bangor”

The release was shrouded in controversy after reports that the song was actually inspired by a trip to Rhyl, another town in North Wales. It was rumoured that Bangor was chosen as the lyric due to it having an extra syllable that flowed better with the song. There were rumours of an outcry among local councillors and businesses in Rhyl about the missed opportunity for tourism which would have been generated. Cook stated that the song was specifically written about Bangor.

Understand from my perspective what my nan's feelings were and how going back to work at the mill was always in the back of her mind however a good day she was having. Given that, are you prepared to see where I was coming from or are you just a silly little online warrior who would never have retorted to my words the same way face-to-face? Pray tell, because it's either one or the other. Be brave and admit or be cowardly and attack via this anonymous medium.
