Is the blade a high speed steel or high carbon? The grind looks nice

It’s an HSS blade.

What is the purpose of a 4mm portrusion at the knife edge?
@thesaunders25 күн бұрын
It is so the grinding wheel doesn't hit the magnetic chuck and so the ground edge is not touching anything.

@thesaunders Good to know, Thank you. Also when you do your sharpening, do you strike the edge of the blade, center, or heel? I'm kind of new to grinding and am having trouble acquiring info on grinding guillotine styled blades for veneer work.
@thesaunders24 күн бұрын
@@THEONLY_GOODBOY Hi, No, I never strike the blade. The whole process is on here, no need to do that. All hardening and stress tensions are done at manufacture.
@THEONLY_GOODBOY24 күн бұрын
My bad. What i specifically meant is whether you are grinding square on the 4mm exposure part of the knife edge initially and working down to the heel or vice versa, starting near or at the heel then to the edge or starting dead center of the knife face . Thanks for responding, very appreciated.

@ it all depends on the angle. If I’m changing angle then I have to adjust accordingly but 99% of the time it is flat on until the edge is back sharp.

What can be done to remove burrs?
@thesaunders29 күн бұрын
I run a fine slipstone along the back or the blade as it’s running.. this lifts the burr up and the wheel takes it off.

@thesaunders Thank you for the answer. What is worth removing from a punch tool? For example, on the circular part. On the edge of the knife.
@MihályVarga-v2d29 күн бұрын
@thesaunders The knife is not clamped. It is just lying on the table.
@thesaunders22 күн бұрын
@@MihályVarga-v2d again, a slip stone would work.. or a soft wire brush.

Hello there! I have the same blade as the one you featured in your video for the HFS 12'' A4 Heavy Duty Guillotine Paper Cutter. The blade measures 37.5 cm or 14.76" in inches. I am interested in having it sharpened and I was wondering what your pricing is like and how long it would take to fix it once you receive it. I have had trouble finding good sharpening services here in the US, but your video caught my attention and I am impressed with your work. I have attached some images of the blade would like to have fixed. I already send it to your email, Thank you! Best regards, Liz Muniz
