Guillotine Paper Cutters are the chopping type paper cutters for paper and poster board. Often they can be sharpened with hand tools and without taking them apart.
This is one of the tools used in this video: Diamond Paddles bonika.com/pro...

About Bonnie Megowan and Bonika Shears
Bonika Shears was begun by Bonnie Megowan, a former school teacher. Bonnie used her background in science and experience in the knife industry to begin a business sharpening and repairing quality stylists shears in the Atlanta area in 1988. Gene Megowan, the marketing manager for Scissor Mechanic, conducted extensive market research. Together, they created the exclusive Bonika International shears. The Bonika International Shears were designed as the first truly multicultural shears. Since then the more than 6 dozen models have been added to the line. They now have local sharpener /distributors in nearly 2 dozen countries and every state. Bonnie Megowan has trained most of these sharpeners. She became the first woman to place first in a national sharpening certification through the National Beauty Tools Sharpeners Guild. Bonika Shears is a member of the ISSA International Beauty Tools Sharpeners Guild, NBTSG National Beauty Tools Sharpeners Guild, and educates for the IBSA International Beauty Sharpening Association.
When you call Bonika Shears, don't be surprised if you hear children. This is a true family business. Their oldest daughter, Mystie Hunter is part owner and vice president of daily operations. She oversees the office personnel, accounting, and scheduling. Her husband, Jay Hunter, is an independent sharpener with a business called Living On the Edges, handles most of the local Metro-Atlanta sharpening. The oldest granddaughter designs sharpening aids with 3D printing during school breaks. Other employees are also family or long time family friends. They all share the same goals and commitment to customer service. Together, with their employees, sharpeners, and customers it is usually like one very large extended family.

Thank you so much for this video I watched it and bought the things I needed. I bought a old used paper cutter at a garage sale for $3 and with your help I got it cutting paper like butter!!!!! I home school my kids so this is going to be so awesome to have. Thanks again for all your tips and showing how to get it done.

I have a mini guillotine cutter that had a spot where it tended to bend, rather than cut. I watched this video and was able to fix the bad spot with a metal nail file! Saved me $$. I'm going to get the sharpeners you recommend, cuz my big guillotine is dull and replacing it would cost a LOT more than the files. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

LOL. I was cheering you on with every test cut, and when it kept gettin' better and better I was like, "Yessss"! Your vid is exactly what I was looking for in that I'd already decided I didn't want to disassemble my little guillotine if I could at all avoid it for the exact same reasons you expressed... disassemble: easy peasy; reassemble: difficult at best, disastrous at worst. I think I've got it... straight, straight, straight edges/corners with a flat, flat, flat stone (or held flat, I should say)! I actually feel comfortable going into this, but not comfortable enough to get sloppy. Walmart first, then to the garage to sharpen stuff. Thank you SO much. From the Southern California desert, MK 😁☀️🌵

Would 'shear' be the right term for the blade, as opposed to sharp? - I'm in the process of building a guillotine with an antique Hampson Bettridge blade 👍
@BonikaShears
@BonikaShears Жыл бұрын
No, shear has the suggestion of the blades curving toward each other. I think the normal person would just use the word sharp.
@jagoq53
@jagoq53 Жыл бұрын
@@BonikaShears Ah, OK- only that the 4' blade I have has a gradual camber, which would do just that - probably not noticeable with a shorter blade. As a blade-maker myself, I look for extra detail 😉 From an engineering point of view, the term 'shear' is where the cut is perpendicular to the material 👍

I don't think you're charging enough at a dollar an inch! That's a great job. Or maybe you could put the teacher in your diary and sharpen these on a regular basis. Return business is a great thing when you're providing a service like this, and of course you can charge a bit less because it fills your diary (if you're not already too busy, in which case it's time to train some more workers!).

I was waiting for you to put the paper to the top of the guillotine where the ruler at the top helps you get that perfect 90 degree angle of the cut and also the correct length by using the ruler at the top. You didn't sharpen either to the end so you will not get sharp cuts at the top. At least I learned how not to do it.
@BonikaShears
@BonikaShears 3 жыл бұрын
The reason I did not put it at the top was the ruler at the top was defective and not straight. The wood was splintered where the ruler was nailed in. My job was to sharpen not remake the thing.

$96.00 for that! Shame on you !!! You need to make a jig for that, not well done just by free hand. also the movement of the grinding stone needs to be perpendicular to the edge of the blade NOT parallel, you are creating a very groovy cutting contact point surface,,,, You are a very AMATEUR, Lady Sharpener.
