Marilyn was proof that beauty, grace, money, fame and talent doesn't bring you happiness. When I see Marilyn you can see the pain and unhappiness in her eyes. If she only knew how much she was loved and still is even 55 years after her death. RIP Marilyn..I hope you are at peace now.

I met many times Marilyn, or my Aunt as I called her due to the fact that my Uncle Joe was married to her and once in my family, you are never out. He never ceased to refer to her as his wife and I do know they were planning on remarrying. Shelly W. is wrong, whom I have also met. We in the family know what happened. But that is not why I am posting this. I never did see her orphanage. Thanks for the video. I still miss old Hollywood and lived there for years after NYC. Keep up the good work!

Jordan, did you ever read Susan Strasberg's book? It really gave some insight into Marilyn's issues. One moment she described was that Susan was walking with Marilyn, who was wearing sunglasses and a scarf over her head. No one noticed them or recognized her. She turned to Susan and asked, "Do you want to see ME become HER?" Susan watched as Marilyn took off her glasses and scarf and as Susan said "made some inner adjustment", and in seconds people were swarming them. I think that Marilyn was a commodity to so many. She was never properly diagnosed or treated; they also did not have the knowledge that exists now. Very sad story. She was used by so many.

Awesome Jordan. Love it. The loss of Marilyn was a blow to 2oth Century Fox. The unfinished film, Something's Got To Give, was farmed around to see if any leading actresses would accept the role and do the film. However most of the people in the cast bolted. Shirley McLaine turned it down as well as all the other actors. When they approached Doris Day a deal was struck that Doris would do the film (sans the nude scene) and Doris would do two additional films for 20th Century Fox after this one. One every other year. Those films were "Do Not Disturb" 1965 and "Caprice" 1967. Although Doris did not do a nude scene for MOD, she did sing a VERY sexy title theme that was a hit around the world, especially in England. It was written by her 21 year old son, Terry Melcher. Doris was very important toward helping to save 20th C.F. from bankruptcy because of the unheard of costs associated with "Cleopatra". Adjusted for inflation, "Cleopatra" I believe is still considered the most expensive film of all time. It was supposed to be shown in two consecutive nights. Three hours each night because they didn't think people would sit through a 6 hour film. But instead Zanuck had the film cut down to 3.5 hours or so with an intermission. I think it is one of the MOST beautiful films ever made. So we can thank Doris Day and also "The Sound Of Music" for saving Fox. I'm sure there are some others to be kudoed as well. Take care......kiss Jah on that snout for me......J

My family rarely went to movies so I was never much interested in the stars like most people are. I do enjoy hearing about the history of Hollywood though, especially the '30s - '50s era. You add a lot of color with all the anecdotes you add to the stories. Good job.

Thank you, for making this video. I have been a fan since 11yrs old. Marilyn (Norma Jean) married her first husband Jim, not because he was in the military, but because she didn't want to be sent back to the orphanage. BTW she did drink quite a bit during her last years, which is a very bad mix with pills. I love Marilyn and hope that she is resting in peace. On a side note, she was rehired for a much higher salary than her original with director approval. She was also very proud of the house that she purchased and passed away in. Some of the furniture she picked out didn't even arrive until after her death. She was alot stronger than people give her credit, but I think she tried to show her strength and defiance to the wrong people.

What a wonderful episode. Marilyn's resting place and house! Marilyn was pregnant several times but unfortunately they were tubular. Her marriages to diMaggio and Miller were doomed before they began with the unrealistic assumption on their parts, Miller more than Joe, that once married she would give up her career and be the stay at home dutiful wife taking care of them and giving them children as women were meant to do. She had expressed as much publicly.
