President Eisenhower answered a personal letter of a friend of mine who wrote to him as a class assignment in the 1960’s she had done for her English class. The letterhead was from the Whitehouse with the presidential seal. He thanked her for her thoughtfulness towards his wellbeing and wished her much success in her endeavors with life. We were driving around in her mother’s classic silver mustang that day before we had lunch at her house. She was so proud of that letter. I hope she kept it in a safe place. We lost touch of each other but at least I have that childhood memory of President Eisenhower’s kindness toward my friend. ❤️ Thanks for the wonderful tour, Jordan. ❤️🙏🏻

Thanks for showing this beautiful place. We Kansans are very proud of IKE. He was President when I was born in south central Kansas. I've been to Abilene and all of the Eisenhower buildings since I was a kid in the 60s. When my Girl Scout troop toured the home in 65 or so, you could go upstairs at the home. It was just as lovely as downstairs. Nothing was roped off downstairs, either. The museum, next to the house, is one of my favorite buildings. You will be amazed at the collection of military memorabilia and Presidential memorabilia from his time in office. And, we just renamed the airport in Wichita that you flew in to after Ike. You've had quite the journey in Kansas. I am beating the Kansas summer heat by visiting my brother in Colorado Springs. Stay cool! I enjoy your channel very much.

Very interesting JTL and historic. Abilene was the first cow town of the West, where the Chisholm Trail ended. Lots of beef shipped out of there by railroad, Cowboys in the thousands herded cattle to Abilene, cool stuff in what once was a wild & rough town

A little history of Abilene, Ks. It was the first "cow town" of Kansas. When the railroads pushed further south and west into Kansas the "cow towns" moved with them, two others of note were Wichita and Dodge City.

Blue ceiling on porch is for bug control also..... people swear that blue paint repels insects, leaving a porch bug-free and pleasant during those long summer evenings and afternoons. ... Lye is a known insect repellent, which would explain why insects would avoid nesting on a painted porch ceiling or ledge.

I was not surprised at all to see the house he grew up in was almost identical to my grandparents house (the house my dad grew up in). Even some of the furniture, wall paper, and curtains looked the same! As I was watching, I could almost smell the air in those rooms. (Of course I was remembering grandma's house!). This country and all of the allied countries were blessed that we had a Dwight Eisenhower to fall back on when we needed him the most. We can only hope that this is never forgotten. Dwight Eisenhower was a truly modest and humble man who (when asked) said that he never wanted any memorials dedicated to him - but only to the men and women he was privileged to have led during the war. Of course the politicians couldn't allow that to happen and the new Dwight David Eisenhower memorial is scheduled for opening in the spring of 2020. It will be located just off the mall, and across from the Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. Maybe it will service the good by never letting the people forget him.

Hi Jordan, once again, what a lovely little house, I liked the family photo of them all on the porch. I think the smaller the house, the more homely it is, and this house looks so cosy. How great that all the furniture and items inside were original aswell. Like the old saying "Be It Ever So Humble, There's No Place Like Home!!", and how true is that. Great Vlog Jordan.

Thank you! My dad was a Marine & served white house duty during DDE's administration. The first lady was attracted to my dad's southern accent. She often asked about his childhood & upbringing from the rolling hills of Mississippi. In fact, she shared a peanut butter/jelly sandwich & milk with my dad. Here's an interesting fact; DDE liked Case pocket knives. There's a model called, "Eisenhower" He would give one to guest of the white house & or other occasions. He gave my dad one too! DDE purchase all of his Case pocket knives from his home town hardware store. No telling how many knives he bought to give away. The letters, D D E was inscribed on the main blade. This video hit home to me. Again, thanks man.

Wonderful vlog, Jordan! Looking forward to tomorrow's vlog! Dwight Eisenhower is the only President that I have personally seen! When I was in elementary school my name (and one other student's) was drawn and we were able to go to see President Eisenhower during a visit he made to Los Angeles. I remember him standing in a convertible and waving to the crowd as he drove by. Of course, I was too young to understand the significance of just WHO I was seeing----but as I got older, I understood and it is a great memory for me today! Thank you for reminding me of that with your wonderful video!

The room you said they hardly ever used was known as the parlor in the old days. My grandmother had one as well. Only for when company called, holidays or other special occasions. Including if a family member died, they would be on display in the parlor for visitors to pay their final respects. You didn't have funeral homes in those days.

Once again Jordan you did a great job on the vlog here! I enjoyed hearing about Dwight D. Eisenhower. I attended in my hometown one of the many high schools that were named after him. My two sisters and I attended Dwight D. Eishenhower High School in Decatur, Illinois. The original high school that I attended was torn down and rebuilt because the person in charge of the Decatur Public Schools wanted it more modern for the younger generations. The old high school did not have the CCTV cameras and security measures for the youth of today and that is why the old high school was torn down and rebuilt. The other high school was named after Douglas MaCarthur who also fought in World War II. It was also torn down and rebuilt. I did not like the idea of rebuilding those two high schools because Decatur is no longer a booming town like it once was. I used to be a Test Administrator for MEPS and did that for 5 years and I would do some of the high schools around St. Louis and Ferguson, Mo.. Those were pretty large high schools and the super intendant wanted to modernize the high school. By doing that the schools mascot that was a part of the entrance of the high school was removed and me as a alumni was not too pleased about that.
