My husband and I visited Hearst Castle in 1978. You can even see a few of the zebras & other animals cared for on the property. The ocean view and landscape is truly beautiful and breathtaking❣️Thanks Jordan for sharing this extensive tour with us. Thoroughly enjoyed this video at night. The actors added to the ambiance of the vlog. ❤️🙏🏻

I heard the reason that Hearst was so stingy with the alcohol wasn’t because he was a Scrooge but because Marion Davies was a dependent alcoholic and he didn’t want others to be drinking when she was recovering.

I remember how grateful I was that he was rich enough to be able to build this castle and decorate it with beautiful ancient paintings, ceilings, and furnishings from all over the world. These things are preserved and well cared for. For all to see, wondrous and wonderful! My favorite of all is the underground pool, blue and gold tiles. Yes, real gold. The diving platform. The elegance of it all. To swim in that would be the most awesome experience of my life!

Would you be so grateful if you were standing in those soup lines? He ducked property taxes so the government couldn't even help the people as much during the Great Depression. It's all pure selfishness. Look at what Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have given to the world. So very few wealthy people do the right thing with their wealth. I've come to hate rich people quite deeply who don't do good in the world.

@@virginiamoss7045 You can't possibly know what rich people do or don't do with their money. Some prefer to give without fanfare. Ask the children of Africa how Gate's philanthropy is working out for them.

Jordan, your photography is wonderful, zooming in for closeups of all the many architectural details. Better than some "professional" documentaries I've seen. I've been to Hearst Castle twice: in 1961 when it was barely open to the public, and again in 1996 when I got to see all the rooms you just showed us and a few more guest cottages. Three books all aficionados of La Cuesta Encantada should read are: "Lulu In Hollywood" by Louise Brooks; "Slim: Memories of a Rich and Imperfect Life" by Slim Keith; and "The Moon's A Balloon" by David Niven. If you can find it, Sheila Weller wrote an article about Patricia Van Cleve, the secret daughter of Marion Davies and William R. Hearst, and their descendants. This was called "The Legacy Of San Simeon" in the 1996 Vanity Fair Hollywood edition, out in April, I think. This may be in a collection of her work somewhere. "Lulu" details the escapades of Hollywood's Bright Young Things of the 1920's, and their ringleader in mayhem, Pepi Lederer, Marion Davies' niece. Pepi could break all of WR's rules with impunity and she did. I won't spoil anything, but I really urge anyone who loves Jordan's San Simeon videos to read these juicy books and enjoy.

I see the Hearst Castle does not disappoint. Wow. Everything is so beautiful and shown beautifully---night and day---lights are lit, it is inviting, and the grounds are immaculate and manicured. I lived half of my life in southern California, and unfortunately never made a trip up to see it. Thank you Jordan the Lion for these tours! Had I been Wm. Randolph Hearst, I would have been buried there.

Anytime day or night the Hearst Castle is cool to see. Put a nice perspective on the “social atmosphere” with the character actors there. Plus each tour guide puts their own perspective and antidotes of the history. Glad you (we) got to see it again!

Spent many summers on what used to be a campground below by the ocean. Took every tour they did there, near the campground was a small store. There was a small house near the store where we met a man that used to be the caretaker for Hearst ranch. The buildings across the street from the store is where Hearst used to store statues. He said there were still statues there (1970's) that were never used. He had some very interesting stories to tell.

This commentary is being thrown to my x-husband; Gary f. Weiland. I landed in Los Angeles and & Monterey Calif. Grew up in Malibu & Santa Monica. We once had gone to buy tickets for the tour of the castle. We purchased tickets for the next day, as they were closed that day. A total waste of money. We never returned to the castle because he never liked long drives. The drive up the old p c h highway was not only so pictures but also very historical!!! The only data I've come across was through the novelest "Alice Marble". Title is " Courting danger". She was a 🎾 Tenn is player! She writes: about her escapdes & many visits to the castle with her good friend Carole Lombard. Alice was an athlete trying to recover from what now is called CFS. Chronic fatigue syndrome. She loved to interact with William r. Heast, & he would often post movie screenplays at her hoping she would perform for the people at his parties! They remained good friends. Miss Marble also coached Billy Jean King. Thanks for my long awaited tour : only about 35 years too late. P.s. they did not conduct night tours back then!!!!! Most likely before this psyer was born. Sorry Mister 🦁 lion !!!

Castle ! More like a palace those front doors !! I like the staging of the place with the people in period clothing. Both vlogs are amazing ! I'm going to watch them both again. Thanks for the great vlog, can't wait for tomorrows.
