Paul Simon said that Disturbed's version of his song was what it should have been in the first place. It's the only cover that he's given his stamp of approval to.

I'm 72 and I LOVE Disturbed s version of this son. David sings with such passion. I've requested this and The Light at my funeral which hopefully wont be for a few years yet but I've heard this a hundred times and his voice still gives me goosebumps talk about a turn-on hahaha. Yes even at 72!!! 😂😂 I believe David is classically trained and.his breath control certainly verifies that. I'm gonna listen again now, get a turn on
@74hodag24 күн бұрын
He was trained as a cantor. That makes it even crazier. I always loved Simon & Garfunkel but this guy stepped all over this. I'm 68 so we're relatively close in age and I'm sure you remember when the original came out. But this, this is WOW!

Your lack of pause and comment was actually one of the BEST reactions to this I've seen: all the others (sans the opera singers, the professional voice coaches and the like) all try too hard to add comments as often as they can. The first 15 seconds, the others are trying to explain what they think the song is going to be about. No. That's diagnosing, not reacting. How you did it... THAT'S reacting!
@kellyzak23755 ай бұрын
Those "diagnosers" drive me up the wall especially when they do it to a great song or film.
@kenanderson20025 ай бұрын
@@kellyzak2375 I know right?!?! Chances are, if we're watching, we've already seen it. We already know. Stop and tell us why you find it sad/funny, or why it brings up memories of a dead loved one... but besides Bohemian Rhapsody, there isn't a song ever been written that can explain the meaning of life within the first 15 seconds. *Not including the professionals who are actually explaining musical theory, tone changes, artistic choice to hit high/low notes.. stuff like that. That's not my cup of tea, but that's what they should be doing. I'm talking just the regular people reacting to a new song.
@timoakes69655 ай бұрын
I have to disagree with you on one point, the "so called " professionals interrupt great songs like this more!
@kenanderson20025 ай бұрын

David Draiman... imho one of the best male vocalists on the planet. He has everything in that voice of his.... beauty, power, range and control. Can sing rich baritone and clear beautiful tenor... not to mention the power of his "distortion" , on which he can actually put vibrato ... which is incredibly difficult to do. Thank you for mentioning his fantastic performance.

I've watched dozens of reaction videos to this version of SOS and this is typical. Every person is stunned by this performance. Everyone hears something new. Paul McCartney said that a good cover reveals something new to the listener. Using that criteria this might be the greatest cover ever. Only Johnny Cash's Hurt or Elvis's Bridge Over Troubled Waters are also in contention for that title.

Disturbed is a heavy metal band, and the song was originally done by Simon and Garfunkle in 1965
@ltxawdude6 ай бұрын
This is a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s song from 1964. Paul Simon heard this version performed by Disturbed on Conan O’Brien’s show and contacted David Draiman (lead singer) and said this is how the song should have been sung and that the song now belonged to Disturbed. He even put a link to it on his own website. Others have done a cover of Sound of Silence as well but they all copy Disturbed’s version as their choice. The song is about how people have lost the ability to communicate in my opinion and perhaps music can bridge that chasm and bring people back together.

FALSE. Paul Simon shared it on his social media but HE DID NOT tell Disturbed it's their song now. This is a MYTH circulating KZbin, regurgitated by people who don't know how to Google. These people are conflating this song with 'Hurt' in which the original singer DID tell Johnny Cash that it's his song now. Let this myth die now.
