There's a video somewhere here on KZbin where a (retired?) US F-16 pilot looks at video of an in-cockpit practice run of a JAS Gripen demo program. A G-meter display is inset in the video. The F-16 pilot is quite impressed in general, but when a switchover from lots of +G to several -G, in more or less an instant, he is really impressed. Definitively by the Gripen pilot, and most likely by the plane. In a follow up video the F-16 pilot interviews the Gripen demo pilot. It is refreshingly free from the pissing contests that all the "experts" in comments here on KZbin have all the time. Just two professional fighter pilots talking about it, in mutual respect. Search them out. It will be worth the time. My memory is weak, but "F-16 pilot reacts" might be a good first attempt.

Many years ago, I believe it was around 2007, at swedish Dreamhack (worlds largest LAN party in my home town Jönköping) we had the privilege to see the Gripen perform just over the great lake Vättern a couple of hundred meters out. With the pilot on loud speakers talking to the spectators and letting us know what he was about to do it was one of the most awesome experiences in my life. That part where he lifts the nose and crawl forward slowly is a sight you never forget. But in this video he didin´t seem to slow down as much as our pilot did, I remember that the nose almost pointed straight up and it moved forward much slower. With the Gripen being just hundred meters away it was SO lound. I wonder if someone filmed it and uploaded it to here, would probably be pretty bad quality then. Great filming by you dude!

The "operates from highways" meme is not very compelling. In the real world, you cannot support combat sorties from a roadside for very long. Just picture it... tankers full of jet fuel, ground staff and racks of bombs and missiles hiding in the tree line off the side of a highway!? Makes for a cute demo I guess.
@@jessejames8370 Yeah, looks great. How well would that work in a conflict? Who is going to drive all that gas around on the roads? Who is going to move all those bombs and missiles around. How will maintenance work, just set up a tent by the highway I guess? Will anyone be trying to stop them? Face it, you lose your airbases, you need to fall back to whatever is left. The roadside airforce idea won't really work past a few sorties, if that.

Knowing the political interference that USA will strong arm Canada into buying American. So realistically the race is between Super Hornet and Lighting, with MAYBE a chance for typhoon. I for one hope if we go with Super Hornet we get the block 3 version and not do an idiots cop-out and get block 2.
@abrahkadabra95015 жыл бұрын
@@austinflavio3457 Well that's a reasonable post to my question and I agree with you for the most part. The only point I'd have to make as a casual observer is that technology is moving so fast these days that technological obsolescence is increasing in speed and fighter aircraft are not immune from this. Stealth aircraft are running the danger of being obsolete overnight the day Quantum Radar is operational. China, USA, France, Italy and probably more nations are throwing their names in the ring for the first one to make this happen. So where does that leave the easily detectable aircraft like the 4.5 Gen fighter like the Gripen? New SAMs available today (like the S-400) and in development make 4.5 Gen aircraft very vulnerable no matter how good they are. But because I don't have the kind of knowledge a NATO chief of staff has about tactical weapons I'm really just speculating like all the fanboys here.
