Because due to some box office failures of some of their movies, they can’t afford to make them. The creator has tried by going to other studios but having to op out because of the price of budget being too high and there have been times where the creators wanted to revive it but simply cannot

AR Rahman is basically the Danny Elfman of Bollywood. Biggest composer for 90s and 2000s era in India, and composers are treated like rockstars. I'm waiting for the day where a Western or Far Eastern studio figures out the Indian market. So many good stories to adapt which would make for fresh storytelling.

This film, Monkey's of Mumbai, is one of numerous examples of such ethnically and culturally diverse animated films that could have told unique stories that truly embodies sharing culture... and got tossed out like trash. A very under-rated animated film that did something like this is Kirikou and the Sorceress, based on actual African mythology and culture. As a kid it made me appreciate Africa and seek to learn more about its culture. Into the Spider-verse also did something like this, creating a Black Spiderman that didn't shit on the OG spiderman to make Miles Morales a convincing and empathetic hero. African-American and Latin-American casual culture and interactions also are observable, a sharp contrast to something like Captain Marvel's movie, that just inserted badly mangled virtue signaling to the point of inanity. Honestly a lot of people cry and babble about diversity in movies and "More 👏 "Gay/Female/Black/etc. 👏Landlords" and just end up taking a story that already exists but has male/white characters and just color/gender bends them; that's not progressive or diverse, that's saying that they supposedly have so little of an identity that you need to project them into existing stories of other cultures. That's the reason people hate things like the recent Cinderella - idpol projection is neither diverse nor makes for a good story. I hope that this film gets picked up because THIS is the kind of diversity needed - something that actually embodies a foreign culture and encourages audiences to learn.

The film got stuck in the development vault for a long time. First, it was set for a late 2014 release. But then it was delayed to spring 2015, then to 2016, then to 2017, and finally to 2018. It got postponed so many times that no one seemed to care about it anymore.
