Whoa the quick way to define first/last step is so performative. Did you just happen on that yourself, playing around? I don't recall seeing that documented anywhere. This is a nice tool for performance/improv....while it's easy/fun to quickly change one of those parameters (like shortening the pattern by changing last step), being able to define both of those instantaneously is much more powerful since you can "zero in" on any portion of the pattern. (Also, doing it the conventional way I sometimes mix up first step and last step and then things get wonky and I have to reload). One of the best things about the DB is how they managed to cram so much functionality into an intuitive interface that's not menu-divey. Thanks for surfacing all these fun little facets for us.

I think the first-last 2-button thing is the Mandela Effect in action. I went back to an earlier version of the manual and sure enough it was in there. Only one little buried sentence but I could swear I never saw it before a couple of weeks ago (I like to trawl through manuals looking for obscure things). And you're absolutely right, as a live performance feature it's excellent, a bit like the arp but possibly more musical and coherent depending on the pattern - although my examples here weren't the best. A little more time spent integrating a few first-last chunks operating with the LFO on note-reset (maybe with sync off) could lead to some interesting results. As always the machine continues to surprise as to how deep it is. The sequencer and the synth controls are so beautifully matched.

Hey Richard, is it possible to copy patterns from one bank to another, or copy one bank to another bank? My setup has my DB-01 accepting MIDI from a Digitakt and there is a limitation where Program Change messages only work on Bank A on the DB-01 (and I want Bank A for Song 1, Bank B Song 2 etc.). Thanks! Love the vids!
@non-dash-smooth Жыл бұрын
Looks like I can copy patterns one by one from one bank to another. Not optimal but it will do!
@RichardDeHove Жыл бұрын
@@non-dash-smooth Yes it's not too painful: Start with the pattern you want to copy; then go to the new Bank; go into Pattern mode, press and hold the pattern you want to copy it into and press the record button. Pretty fast when you do it a few times.

Hi Richard, did you report the bug (I do think it's a bug 😅) regarding the "Chaining Pattern" feature where the first time it plays the first pattern of the chain, then plays it again with the pattern chain, please? (I just noticed this too, and it's not very handy)
@RichardDeHove2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reminder. I didn't at the time but have now. It's a real trap because the instant assumption when you get the repeat is that you've tapped in an extra pattern. (I also suggested replacing arp patterns 4,5 and 6 or adding new ones. I can never get those arp patterns to fit. Just me?)
@2MinuteWarning2 жыл бұрын
@@RichardDeHove Thanks Richard! I'm finalizing a new video in which I wanted to use the "Chaining Pattern" feature, was able to do so due to this bug (so had to switch between between patterns manually... luckily my videos are in general no longer than ~2 minutes 😅) And yes, the arp patterns 4,5 and 6 are less inspiring than the others (but not sure they'll be able to replace them because maybe some people actually enjoy it and like to experiment with strange arp patterns 😄)
@helpmeiaminhell Жыл бұрын
When choosing random patterns do you get a lot of useful good sounding beats? I want a drum machine but I'm terrible at making beats.
@RichardDeHove Жыл бұрын
The DB-01 is a synth but for drums maybe a device with a Euclidean sequencer would help? The LXR-02 has a Euclidean mode:. This gets into drums in the second half although there's probably much simpler videos about Euclidean stuff: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKXEaqGedtqZadk . For randomly generated drums the best I can think of is actually the software drum machine Microtonic and the online pattern generator: www.soniccharge.com/patternarium . Any of the patterns and kits you hear can be instantly squirted into your VST. It's loads of fun just to play around with it.

@@RichardDeHove thank you so much for the reply that Sonic Charge is amazing!! I'll still probably pick up the DB-01 though and try and learn it. It really helps when you have amazing tutorials like yours to reference! Thanks for the reply and awesome videos much appreciated!

Wtf, that Zen Delay sounds evil as 😳
@RichardDeHove2 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting machine. Although the controls are delay-standard stuff the way they're calibrated makes it quite different to other delays. It can function very well as an overdrive, filter and even reverb.
