I'm loving the sound of it so far. The amount of oscillators, layers, filters, envelopes and everything else is incredible. The main problem is not going crazy adding too much. The Behringer Mono/Poly just didn't seem to have the magic of the original for me. That's uselessly vague as a criticism, so maybe it was just that the reality of any Mono/Poly, even the OG, was never going to live up to my idealized memories. My only solid criticism of it was that it was literally unable to play really low bass. The lowest key on the machine with 32' oscillator and transpose down was just not very low. That really irritated me although I've never seen anyone else complain about it. Meanwhile the Malevolent waits in its box - the Multipoly has demanded all the attention.

I've found it surprisingly manageable without a volume knob. In most synths I almost always just set the volume and leave it. Live might be more of a problem. In that case the little Boss GEB-7 is also a good choice.

Hmmm, that's an odd one. I'd try working through a few tests. Try saving a test sound in another project and see if that works. Try saving the kit by itself rather than just the project. Try one of the preset kits and see if any of them have a saved value, change it and save that.

Not unless it's a preset kit (so you can download the data again); or if you've made a backup of your SD card. Otherwise it's gone :/ The mistake I often make is quickly going to "save project" and accidently hit "load project" instead. So many lost wonders....

I like what you have there, dont get me wrong, but I would love to see something more recent, the last single is 4 years old if Im looking correctly. @@Kapeamece I've thought a lot about your comment. You're absolutely correct in all observations. Most of my older material is quite moody 'space music' style. But in the past few years (especially after getting into hardware again) things have got a lot more abrasive. But with all the videos I make looking at pedals and demoing things, doing how-to guides and such there's been very little time to finish actual tracks. Now that you highlight this it feels like a big hole :( So you have prompted my resolution for 2025: To make some complete tracks again. Thankyou.

Yes, an amazing machine that keeps getting better. The latest firmware added MIDI CC modulation which is what I'm using here on the Timeline. "Arp" is a deceptively simple name.

Hmmm yes good question. The El Cap isn't noted for its time division flexability :/ I think you're down to using tap tempo or sending it a specific MIDI clock.

@@TimothySamSchreuder Depending on how your setup works this could get messy, but the gist of it is that triplets are just a percentage of your base BPM. So you could use one of the many online BPM calculators to determine your required BPM for triplets then have a MIDI clock send that to the pedal. Probably easier would be to get a triplet-capable dedicated clock source like the Disaster Area: www.disasterareadesigns.com/shop/p/micro-clock-gen4 I haven't used this device but it does send triplet clocks - might be worth checking out.

Yes, the Zen does add a lot. Sometimes it can be almost reverb-like in the way it seems to round out and position the sound.

I sold my Mono a while back so can't help too much with the specifics. Generally I found the Mono to be very stable but not very ergonomically friendly. Live I wouldn't want to be doing anything other than selecting presets I'd made or I'd get confused for sure. Have you looked at the Mono V2 ? I had one order early on but cancelled because of the all the bug reports. Now by all reports the firmware is rock solid although people still seem a little wary of the USB MIDI and prefer the DIN MIDI. Really for what it can do it's an absolutely amazing machine yet it has never seemed to 'break through' into popularity. Maybe it's just too complex?

@@RichardDeHove got the Mk2 last year but it was just too buggy for me too, so i send it back, it crashed frequently and all sorts of issues on the OS, I don´t really use USB midi so I can´t say about that, I´m fine with good old din midi, just found an Mk1 brand new so I think I will give it a try, for the Mk2 I might wait and see if they really fixed by now..

@@LucaOrtega I was looking at reports on V2.1.2 which seemed very positive. But Norand lost a lot of people (including you & me!) because of their buggy MkII firmware. Well V1 looks a lot better anyway! At one stage I was so close to getting a second MkI and using them as a drum machine duo :) Certainly I never had any crash issues with V1.

Yes, still got the GEB-7. A perfect companion to the DB-01. I'd use it on every video but I'm usually trying to show the 'raw sound' of other effects. A find a tiny boost on the bottom end, a scoop at 500 and highs to taste add a beautiful finish to the sound. You really notice it after you've had it on for a while. The volume slider is a bonus.

Agreed! There's no finer machine for playable ergonomics than the Perkons.

I wanted to do the "degrading looper" thing as part 2 but I realized (too late) that it needed MIDI CC commands rather than just MIDI note number like the Timeline. I searched for a cheap way to get clocked MIDI CC commands but nothing. (Recently with V7 firmware the Midicake Arp gives that ability.)
