Being frozen while WW is pretty good. WW hits a certain amount of time per second. When you are chilled, you move more slowly, meaning each target gets hit many more times per WW.

Yes you would hit more times, but wouldn't slowing your movement theoretically cause you to not damage the monsters you could be hitting?

Theoretically yes, but being chilled also slows attack speed, therefore you would deal less damage overall.

@@ImmaturityFTW WW speed is independent of being chilled. Being chilled helps because you stay in the hit zone longer. Faster run/walk moves you faster while you WW also, so less can be better. Monsters usually bunch up on you and your merc, so WWing slower keeps you in hit range

That’s pretty good, I like it, I will copy yours, I start playing plugy about 3 weeks now, and I make a Sorceress level 86 now, but my gear still sucks, and I make a zealer level 75 now at least I can kill the clone now, I have 5 x annihilus, my best so far is 17//20//7, thank you for posting your videos.

Nm baal runs finally dropped it for me ..level 75 baal .. A lot faster than a hell Baal level 99 ..but only if your a specific item grinder Lol ... Its torture I feel your pain but my God when you see that tan "slayer guard" its a moment for a barb where your heart sinks.. I never ever found it. And I've played LoD since it came out in 2001.... And speaking of.....he says "no high lvl runes used..." I have never found anything above Pul rune - again since 2001... I fucking hate the lame ass drop% in D2 - but I still love the game. :'(

Before Oath swords my alternative was to reset act 3 vendor for cruel colossus blade of quickness, larzuk and shael it. For the vendor to sell that sword it took me couple of hours of resetting.

solid build, those mid runes can take a loooot of time to drop tho(2 mals 2 puls and 1 um), even on hell countess it would take at least like 1000 runs if ur lucky(1:739 odds per mal) my sorc is level 91 already, been farming like crazy, ancient tunnels, pit, mephisto and around 1000 LK runs last couple days, i never got a mal, so far the best i got was 1 pul, 1 ist and 2 guls, also 2 perfect 4 socket eth balrogs can take a while too. When i finally drop a mal i think ill wait til i find a Lo for a gg grief

So true. That's a lot of mid-level runes, and those are amazing base weapons. Two of them, even! I wish instead of "budget," there were good self-found/single-player guides out there. This stuff is phenomenal wealth to me. I've beaten Hell Baal with a Sorceress and Amazon, but I'm just not that into "farming."

Barb was my first char in this game too. Recently I have been using a berserk barb for chaos bosses and been having a lot of fun. Ww barb is a true classic build. Good stuff db!

I’m gonna say no buddy, I played then on and off and up until 2005. Been out about 15 years as well since then. I believe the best weapons are rune words death, beast, botd, maybe doom. Lance was great for range and with an enigma and perhaps 40 3/20/20 sc’s 3 max / 20 ar / vit and 3 max / 20 dmg and vit. Good times, cheers

My fave build. I think a more "budget" setup would be just using Tals mask and Angelics Amu + Ring. You need lots of AR with WW because you can't afford to miss or you'll run out of mana (like what happened to you during the Diablo fight). Cat's eye does nothing for WW imo. For a less optimized gear setup, you'd get more mileage with using a single 2H weapon for bigger damage numbers (not to mention that Dual wield doesn't do anything for your backup berserk attack). An offhand Oath doesn't add much imo.

Whirlwind barb wants to be decrep-ed frozen and slow! The slower he goes trough the enemies the more hits he lands and the quicker he kills em. Can you make a throwing barb? :D

Im a simple man, i see barb video, i like. One note tho, if you dont have, Ignore Target's Defense or -25% Target Defense on weapons, should get some attack rating elsewhere

Oath is fine for mainhand since you hit the right frames on ww, and thats super important. But, i would wear a Death in the offhand, and use angelic amu, ring + raven. Also i would get +3 bo sticks on swap instead of harmony. You can just use frenzy if you want to move fast. Depending on where you farm, i would switch in a gface for more cb and ds, and switch duress out with a treachery for more res and dr. The 48 fhr bp is more than fine. Also, when you encounter mana burn, the best counter you can do is use War Cry for the stun. Really important in baalruns aswell. On singletarget its very nice to use battle cry untill merc procs hes decrep. Last thing is gonna be, you need to do the DoD, Dance of Death. Small whirls in a triangle, if you want to max your damage, long whirls is mainly with mana burn where you whirl along the edge of the pack if they are not stunned.

Also, being frozen while you ww is bad, it cuts down your ias, wich meaning you will deal significantly less damage as it cuts the "hit-checks" down. String of ears is BiS for ww barb in pvm :)

I was trying to stick to budget so no high runes. I agree on 3 bo sticks as well. I mentioned that as a possibility as well. G face is pimp for sure lol. Thanks for the feedback man. Outside of buying a bunch of stamina potions before you go there, that's not really possible on normal. Even if you get lucky enough to pick up a 25% faster rw mod on an item, it's not really enough to make much of a difference. Nightmare or Hell once you have much higher run/walk on gear or use the Enigma runeword for teleport, it's a piece of cake 😉

Here's what I disagree on: cannot be frozen. You do not need it on WW barb. As you mentioned yourself, attack speed during whirlwind is only affected by weapon attack speed and IAS. Being frozen does not change attack speed. But it slows your movement speed, so you can do more hits on a single monster while whirling past him. Personally I like no-cbf WW barb.

Hi! Sorry if it is obvious, I'm quite a beginner, but how do you manage your attack rating and mana until you get good enough legendary gear that takes care of it? You said that you don't invest in dexterity and energy, as your gear takes care of that, but what do you do until you get that gear?

You can invest points in weapon mastery early on, and use the bonus to boost AR from items, +AR charms, +AR rings. Diamonds in helm or armour, Amethyst in weapon, Set Angelic Ring and Amulet, Set Sigon's Visor helmet with any other piece, etc. An Eth rune in the weapon will cut monster defences by 25%, it also helps a lot. Any item with mana steal helps, Gorefoot has 2% (Level 9), Manald Heal has 4-7% (Level 15). Rare weapons often have mana steal, or if you have a good weapon with a socket or two you can put Skulls in it. And mana potions. I played this game 20 years ago, but never know how pro players farm for specific item set. btw, what do you do when you mess up skills or stats? without mod, my character practically became trash and couldn't even kill diablo on normal mode...

better use insight for ww because of the huge bonus to atck rating and the meditation aura and 2 wizspike on swap with a mf build for find item skill, max ur shout and battle order to boost ur merc wearing reaper toll treachery guillaume or andy , use terror or warcry to help ur merc with crowd control or make a harmony bow for an act 1 merc for mov speed if u want to farm public runs with 8 players in it

By socket quest. I use multiple twinked sorcs at first. Then i just started getting them from other chars I leveled up. 3 from druid. 3 barb. 3 amazon. 3 pally etc. Once you have the main stuff socketed like andies merc helm. Your shako. Tals armor etc you start to run out of the need to use sockets. Plus i usually mule a lot of gear between diff chars when i stream using plugy shared stash like my socketed shako etc.

"No high runes, guys!" *Shows 2 Mal Runes* Albeit Mal is fairly easy to get, and with 2 you are 1 away from making grief. You should use 2 Ravenfrosts for AR. Soul Drainers are best for life/mana leech and not incredibly rare. Upped Sting of ears is godly as well for more life leech, since Optimally you wanna run Beast+Grief. 1 Ber is pretty easy to get from p8 lower Kurast runs even if you have to cube them with Sur's. I've found Ber Rune 5 times outright from these super chests and probably 8 Sur Runes in about 400 hours total. Even found Lo a few times. Also countless Gul, Mal, Ist, and Vex runes. I think I found about 60-70 Runes higher than Mal in that time from Kurast chests alone. Enough to cube a Zod almost twice :P should take no more than a week of farming a couple hours everyday to get Ber or close to it

If you hold down your show loot key "ALT" ull be able to do ww much easier without thinking of hitting behind the mob. Funny how you didnt utilized that :) Also if you procc concentrate attack before ww'ing ull be doing a ww with double the movespeed.

Everything is decent what you said. But what you didn't mention are some other choices. 1.) Oath Eth colossus sword. It also hits the same attack speed breakpoint as balrog blade. It's rarer to find, but it's not crazy rare either, but does more damage than a balrog blade. 2.) Off-weapon IAS does not help whirlwind at all. Hence cats eye is not necessarily the best option, unless you want to higher FRW and the 25 dex. There are better amulets out there. Any rare or pretty much any other unique amulets would be better IMO. 3.) I don't disagree with your choice of gloves, but maybe a blood glove can be good as well. It depends which areas you are running. If there are mostly demons around like act 4, then LoH would be best. But I can see situations where having other gloves, can be a good option too.

The first thing I mentioned in this video is that off weapon ias does not effect ww breakpoints. But yes you are right it doesnt. The premise was budget build right. I could have used other amulet options your right like high lords but it's not budget imo. I chose cats eye for the dext, def vs missiles and to pair the frw with harmony on switch. I could have run a traditional 3 to bo war cry sticks on off hand and maybe eye of etlich or whatever but I chose something different. Again yes the ias doesn't help tho. Collosus sword would be good but I play on single player. Really hard to find 4 os eth collosus sword. I mean it's possible. Just easier to roll 4 os on eth balrog blade in the cube then a colllosus sword. I haven't found a single 4 os eth colossus sword on single player or rolled one in the cube. I like oath in balrog blade so much cuz it hits fastest ias ww bp and easy to make 4 os. Loh I used mainly for the 350 ed to demons and fire res. Your right I could have mentioned other gloves like blood gloves. But I also dont want to make a 40 mins video because majority of people wont watch that long of a video. Ty for the input

Actually, WW attack speed can be improved by Fanaticism, but that of course is beyond budget. A good video otherwise, and Oath is definitely a weapon of choice when low on runes. Had a frenzy-barb rolling with those two babies - hits like a truck!

Double Oaths in Balrog Blade are already reaching 2 fpa bp which is the fastest breakpoint for ww so it couldn't really be improven. Also any IAS coming from anything else other than weapon (including fanaticism aura) is not affecting ww frames. ^^

Wasn't talking about Oaths exactly, but rather more "slow" weapon like Grief BA... pretty sure it was used in combination with Beast BA in PVP, but thinking of it now, it wasn't on Battlenet, so maybe it was modded or something? I mean, amazons dodge skills ARE affected by Fana, but on the other hand, WW on classic has fixed attack rate...

Whirlwind did not feel clunky in D2 Classic. It was the perfect fun experience because the attack speed was not relevant. Therefore you would whirl with Lances and Polearms with high dmg and big range. This is the biggest downside of LoD. It made WW basically unfun to play.

If you have other sources of lifesteal verdungos is better than string of ears. Barbarians gain twice as many hit points per vitality. Near the begging of the video you were lamenting how many stat points you had to divert from vtiality pool, verdungos gives up to 40 vitality points, that's 160 hit points. but only 80 for a sorc. If its not BiS for a Barbarian its not BiS for anyone.

I can simply disagree with the parts about attack speed, because with the RIGHT weapons and the RIGHT parts, coupled with a non battle orders proactive WARCRY/demo shout build and global aoe debuffs casted by necros sorces and paladins, the attack speed whirlwind build can and has worked before. Take my advice for it. My group back in the day was the very top of the elitists and we KNOW things like this. Just because it has not happened in a long time, does not mean it cannot work in game ever again. First off you need PERFECT ED% ebotd cbs and it has to be collosus blades to get the reach you need. 2nd is you need movement AND attack speed. But enough about that. You do you. I am simply putting it out there that just because its outside of the current player bases knowledge cap, doesn't mean it cannot work. Mind you we had a player clan of 10-15 people and that includes the newbs. The curse necro would amp damage, while I would warcry demo shout (demoralizing shout and delierium would cause monsters to flee for a short period of time, allowing me to heal up through dracs by using stun. it was a stun wind build. and yes you max whirlwind absolutely. in this build.) If you have any questions about the builds used I would be happy to answer them. I am not knocking you or the videos you make due to the fact I enjoy your content, but please do not knock people for playing a game and we end up talking to a brick wall because it is outside of peoples known skill level to play at the TOP eschelon of diablo 2. No one is in the wrong here just try to not be so critical with your words please. IAS! It's a very touchy subject.

actually yukmout is right. On live bnet servers. Ww and frenzy barbs kinda dont work too good cause they did some ninja patch that messed up desynch and wsg which kinda messed up ww and frenzy for some reason lol. Doesnt properly hit and cant do tri whirls. Blizzard ftw... but if players are staying on single player offline or pluggy, then ww n frenzy work as intended.
