@@Caspicum your'e allowed to say it's a shitty game lol. I agree with the comment. I remember playing it as a little guy. I loved it. However, I remember it being significantly easier than legacy of goku 2. In lg2 I kept on getting my ass handed to me by android 19. In Buu's fury, I had absolutely no asses handed to me, and was, indeed, the one handing out asses to their respective owners. After learning what a STAT is (thanks to final fantasy) I could see myself going back to these two games and seeing why one is objectively better. I would have to try it myself, but from the gameplay, it seems like you were pretty easily op'ing everything... which for a seasoned rpg gamer is no fun. I loved this game when I was kid. Although I like Buu's Fury, I see what you mean in terms of the poor choices they've made with this game like the wall bounce removal and the exp door spam. I do think for some characters, they've definitely made Ki Blasts more viable, such as Vegeta's Big Bang attack now dragging enemies giving him the chance to beat down foes as the ball goes across the screen.

Oh for sure. I love the attempted integration of the ki blasts, and big bang attack is basically a free punch enabler. Level doors aside, the gameplay mechanics added in Buu's Fury makes the game 10 times more enjoyable than the first 2 games. Enemies repositioning themselves every time you punch them was super annoying. And lack of control with stat points and when to apply healing items was also a huge oversight of the prequels. It's personally my favorite of the trilogy, and grinding was part of the fun. Otherwise, you could beat the whole game in a single evening.

Legacy of Goku II is still incredibly comfy. I'm pretty harsh on games, as you can probably tell from the video, but every time I play it, I revert back to that kid playing it at 80% speed on a very primative version of Visual Boy Advance. I think it's good enough to ignore a lot of the smaller issues because the flow of gameplay is pretty consistent. Very rarely do you have big pauses or momentum breaks. Always worth confirming though, especially since it's like 6 hours long.

I love both LoG 2 and BF, but I still prefer BF. Not only is the Buu saga my favorite of DBZ, but there's a couple gameplay things I feel were WAY better in BF than LoG 2, specifically the SSJ transformations having their own energy bars, and making food/items something you store and can use later instead of instant use when you pick it up edit: I see you pointed those out towards the end lol Also yeah, fuck that dinosaur

Honestly never thought about criticizing this game. There definitely is pacing issues and lack of side quests/interactions. My original play through I never noticed the lopsided imbalance for the physical attacks. Since I tried to balance stats equally. Which leads to my personal critique that you can choose to distribute your stats anyway you like and the game will be as challenging as you make it. And I'm one of those love to grind type people so I never saw any issues with needing to grind. Pointing it out has made me realize ots required. But I love how this game has a power trip. Abusing that physical attack makes grinding easy and fun. My highlight examples being: 1. Grinding goku to level 100 before 65 door. 2. Grinding Gohan to 175 before tournament/Babidi. The latter was to receive Gohan at level 200 on Supreme Kai's planet well ahead of normal circumstances. Some may say its ridiculous crazy to do that.

I'm glad you pointed out the botched combat system, that was always the biggest reason I was disappointed. I think most people honestly like this one more be cause I had more content to unlock such as fusions. Also, the game does come across as sloppy and unpolished, sometimes a character could get permanently stuck (I think it's that ninja level). 2 is easily the better game....even though they barely gave me Goku through the whole adventure then replace him with a joke character after dying...
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
I got permanently stuck behind that bloody gate, I remember it well! There's a 160 door or something when you return to the place you last fought Buu on earth, and if you go behind it, it respawns and can't be destroyed. There's also a save point there, so if you save, you're buggered. You can glitch through it with Fusions, but what a mess.

Just got done the video, it very much feels like an attempt to streamline the game. Something I never really understood. If they are playing the third game in the series, it's clear that the people who bought it have at least a basic understanding of the pacing from the previous game. The level doors just seem so bizarre, wouldn't it just make more sense to have the main game level curve me lower. Like 125, and have some extra areas? Instead of making the player grind 10-15 levels between every major encounter?
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. A 100 hard cap would be fine with lower EXP gains and proper stat balancing. If they wanted to go crazy, chucking in a few end-game areas with better equipment, or a higher level cap solely for those areas would go a long way too.
@eyecontrol49003 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the in-depth review! I appreciate how you went into detail the differences between the 2 games. I loved both games as a kid, but noticed over the yrs I went back to LoG2 a lot more. I think this video explains why. I didnt have a problem with the storymode (lack of side-quests) as it follows the manga/anime quite closely. The main issue I have with it is the big drop in difficulty and the stupid amount of grinding. That lv85 gohan gate ALWAYS gets me! There isn't a fight in the game that comes close to the difficulty of the final Cooler fight, or the ussj trunks vs cell fight from LoG2. I wish the dev's made the stat boosts automatic, so you wouldnt manually pump all the stat gains into strength to 1-shot enemies. Got no issue with the held items, just wish they buffed the enemies, or at least nerfed the characters a bit. Also I agree they should've made mystic gohan a separate transformation. (I know this happens in other games like Budokai2 & 3, where he has blue aura and strength increase) I still enjoy going back to Buu's fury once a yr, but it doesnt feel as polished or refined as LoG2. You know that LoG2 is a well made game, when you see there arent any major game breaking glitches or oversights, like the senzu bean trick.

@@Caspicum sorry for responding so late. I don't really have any suspicions because of my gaming habits even now. I'm the type of person who will fight every enemy I pass. If I see an achievement, or know there is one for cancelling 100 enemy spells or attacking 300 enemies from behind on the field or something like that, I'll "grind" some progress on that achievement early(though I wouldn't do it all in one go. The game I'm specifically thinking of scales experience vs the levels of the enemies in the game, so I don't grind the achievement out at the beginning because by the end of getting the achievement, I'd be getting 1 experience per fight). If an RPG's combat is too tedious to do against trash mobs, then its a bad game to begin on the combat level, even if you ignore the grind. Playing a game on Easy or even Normal in some cases can make a game even more tedious as opposed to being tactical and changing up your strategies depending on what your opponants do, I can see easier difficulties being tedious if you're killing every enemy in one attack.

I don't think I disagree with a take more than this one on the entirety of the Internet. 1. The "grinding" you complain about in the beginning of the games takes *literally* just a few minutes. 2. You're GIVEN exp equipment and enemies drop it for grinding later on; a ten minute trip to the circus grinds you twenty levels. 3. What do you mean Goku died just at the end of LoG2? You spend the ENTIRE GAME without playing as Goku, even when he IS alive, and then when he dies at the end, you get a whole Hercule as a replacement.
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
Well lucky for you, being wrong isn't illegal... Yet. 1. The grinding shouldn't exist at all, there's no valid reason as to why any of the story is gated behind levels. It's unnecessary padding to add time to an already short game. (I also complain about the grinding they make you do throughout the entire game, particularly to 140 before the final boss.) 2. The fact that they make you grind, and then offer you ways to shorten it shows how little care and effort was put in. If it was such a non-issue, there wouldn't be ways to speed it up from the outset. Nobody would want to speed it up because its inclusion is so integral to the game. 3. Goku died at the end of LoG2, as I said. I am correct. My point was that once you got a character, they weren't dying and reviving sporadically. Sometimes they weren't available, sure, but the story lent itself better to an RPG format. Goku is the strongest character, so it makes sense that he'd be the final unlock, and once you get him, you've got him. In Buu's Fury, if you get a character, you never know how long you'll have them for and in what circumstance which I don't think lends itself well to an RPG progression system, no less one where you've gotta grind. LoG2 was also a longer game, and a bit more lenient with who you could control at any given time, taking a few more liberties from the story. idk if you watched the rest of the video, but I'd be interested to hear your justification for the worse combat system, the gates that respawn and lock you out of areas for no real reason, stopping the player every few hits to tell them they've leveled and all the other garbage that Buu's Fury is filled with.

It is incredibly satisfying to speed around maps and one-shot everything. Like, as poorly designed and broken as it is, it's super fun. Makes my chimp brain happy. In terms of quality build though, and just the comfy progression (outside of that dinosaur, god i hate the dinosaur holy shit) Legacy of Goku 2 does it for me.
@TheVivi134 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum Oh yeah I played the two games sorta differently as in I didn't really grind much in either, didn't spend my level points in BF, and didn't use the capsules in LOG2. Makes them both feel a bit more challenging.
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
@@TheVivi13 For sure. My first runthrough of LoG2 was done with minimal enemy interaction and no capsules so I'd get a better feel for the bare-minimum difficulty curve. I'd imagine grinding in Buu's Fury without stats would be a bit more of a chore, but the boss fights might be better. With the lack of enemy bounce, and the ability to mash them against the wall infinitely, it's just a longer fight.
@TheVivi134 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum Yeah the boss fights did end up better. Some actually felt challenging. I don't recall grinding being much of a chore, but I didn't grind too much and I'm sorta used to playing games at a slower pace anyways. It may just be personal opinion at that point.
@justken.3492 жыл бұрын
My problem with Buus fury was that it was just to easy for how much grinding we had to do Enemies don’t bounce off walls and since we have full controls over our stat points we can just put everything into strength and one shot bosses with no effort or trap them against a wall and kill em that way. It was just wayy too easy

You didn't mention broken enemy scanning system and Gokuu Hat and rare items.
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
Gokuu hat is unnoteworthy. Getting 4 stats instead of 3 but only after level 100 allows you to cap everything at 200, but for what purpose? I didn't go in on the equipment system as much as I'd liked, but that bit at the end where I said I was sick of talking about it was legit hey. As for the scanning system, I didn't know it was broken! I only used it a few times in both 2 and Buu's Fury. In what ways was it broken?
@JakubKowalski934 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum In order to understand how broken it is one must try to get every enemy scanned : D It was tedious in LoG II but in Buu's Fury it is legit fucked up. There is a forum thread about it at Retro Achievements.

I always appreciated how Legacy of Goku 2 tried to come up with reasonable enemies to the main cast. Goku getting jumped by wolves in Legacy of Goku and losing felts dirty. Like... how? However, the black water mist, as shit as that arc was, is a reasonable way that the cast could get hurt by infected animals. Same with Gero's robots since he was able to create androids that killed the cast in the future. Now would they really do damage if we actually compared feats? No, but it suspends the belief just enough that you can believe it and not feel confused.

I think the idea behind the level gates was to emphasize DragonBall's theme of always training to get stronger moreso than making sure you're at an adequate level to handle whatever challenges were ahead of you. But, it's still a terrible idea, especially with the absurd levels some of these gates have. I remember playing this game as a kid and having my jaw drop at the ridiculous level requirements the game demanded of you in some places. I spent a lot of time running back and forth with the 100-ton equipment punching robots and stuff.
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
I'm still down for the idea of endlessly trying to improve through training. The Buu Saga was the worst one to attempt that in though. They just yell and get magically stronger, not even like the Cell Saga where they have to disappear before they magically get stronger, or the Namek Saga where they get touched by an old man... oh no. I'm playing through the OG NES DBZ RPGs which might become a video idk yet, but they've got infinitely more grinding than buu's fury and still manage to be interesting. they're not good, but they are interesting :^)

Not necessarily, because it's pretty short, and has a similar overall structure to Legacy of Goku 2. It's more how everything plays out in a stilted way with the level doors and hot-swapping between places at break-neck speed. The combat being worse didn't help.

@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын

@luisfilipe27472 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum yeah, there's that too, I think they purposely left it like that to make things easier, which kinda sucks, I'm not too found of games that you have to really force yourself to have some challenge cuz the game itself is not designed to offer one. Btw i think you forgot to mention a funny glitch that allows you to go on the overworld in super Saiyan and fusioned, because you normally go to normal state when going to the overworld, but if you fly through the window in the kami lookout room you keep whatever form you're in

buus fury editor makes the game super fun. you start at level 200 with all characters, making the game feel like it should. one hit ko's for all lesser enemies. i beat the game in about 3 hours now. best part is it edits the rom and not the save, so when you start a new game youre maxed out.

I agree with everything you said, and I want to add one more little detail: Almost EVERY chest that isn't accessible the first time you enter is probably an exhibit, and if you don't care for Gogeta, it can discourage players from revisiting Area that don't have anymore content, Why go back to Thieves Den after getting the Dragon Ball? What? For that 1 chest on top of the house that Goku can get? After a quadrillion of these, do you even care what's inside? The answer n o, oh the Lighthouse? How many times have you swear after learning the glutton inside want you to go to ANOTHER area (Because the Thieves Den Shop is Trash) to get a single item, then fight through all the stages before the lighthouse only to get sent to go get this man the secret content of Area 51, like after the 3rd time who the hell even cares anymore, unless your in love with Gogeta, most of my friends just stop after the 3 time.
@Caspicum3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I hate when they hide shit I don't need in areas that are a pain to revisit. They kinda do that in Attack of the Saiyans, but you're always hungry for AP so it's not a huge issue.

@@Caspicum The fact that most (If not all) Require Goku too when I first play this as a kid I got Goku to level 200 so if I do meet a chest that require Goku, I would be set and never have to worry.

Your points are really valid, my only points. The lv70 Goku door , the logic my little me had was Goku is lower than Vegeta, lets grind. The level of Gohan to the 140 is the fact ultimate gohan at a minimun is level 110 and farmin that 30 levels with equiptment is decent, but it can be higher. The "post game" exist, it's bad, really bad been the new doors there been fusion doors. Honestly the Best way to play the game is to Replay it and know who you need before you need them, then use them for that section! Also for the Dragon Balls, Grind on the Area with a Dragonball that doesn't have a Gate until you reach a the Required Level to be able to get Past the Gates in the Rest of the Areas as it has Powerful Enemies that will give plenty EXP. But Don't fight the Boss until your done Grinding!
