Bobby was being picked on by bullies and decided to learn how to defend himself, not realizing until too late it was a women's self defense class. That was how the instructor told them to fend off an attacker, and so that's how Bobby fights lmao

Also, I think the further joke has been, although it's more subtle, that since Piccolo is so unfamiliar with human biology that the more sexual nature of it really freaks him out, like it would a sheltered person who has no idea what sex is until their 30's. So learning about it, makes him extremely uncomfortable.
