If they had a single engine failure and failed to notice in time, their plane could bank to that side and start losing airspeed, maybe even entering a stall (which would be a death sentence at such a low altitude even in a more manoeuvrable plane). Don't overestimate technology too much lol, it'll always be impressive to me to see pilots lay their lives on the line

In those conditions the plane is barely maneuverable and your engines are susceptible to shutdown due to debris or smoke ingestion. You don't have the altitude or speed to restart an engine either.

For those who don’t know why there is a smaller plane it’s because it’s used as a pathfinder for the larger aircraft making sure they dropped on the right spot

The spotter plane does two things. 1. Hot air is less dense causing the wings to produce less lift, it flies ahead to make sure the air is dense enough The spotter plane isnt carrying any load so it can handle flying into hot air, but the DC-10 is near its maximum weight and could suddenly drop. 2.The DC-10 pilot can't really see the ground under him , so the spotter plane guides him and tells him when to drop.

A house fire has to be the scariest thing Ive experienced. But I couldn’t imagine a forest fire that you have to drive through, seeing the smoke in every direction. Flames falling and consuming quite literally everything.

The two jets also so close one after another … while dangerous, flying these firefighting missions must be a whole lot of fun. You get to do all the manoeuvres the commercial pilots probably dream of doing.
