DC Icons 6" Nightwing Figure Review

I've been reading Nightwing comics, I've seen him in Young Justice and Batman: The Animated Series, and I love the look of this figure. Does that make me a Nightwing fan.

The figure looks pretty good, but I'm not a fan of the Icons scale. On a side note, on paper the Icons line is everything I had practically begged DC Direct / DC Collectibles to make for years. Non-artist specific designed action figures in their iconic suits. But once I saw that the line would not be using DC Direct / DC Collectibles standard 6.75" to 7" scale, I wrote the line off. I'd actually really love to know what the motivation was to switch scales.

Snowmation I think they switched to 1:12 to be more accurate so everyone can have their own specific height to scale but they couldn't get the heights and weights to look appropriate. The first Batman was too small, Wonder Woman to big, Swamp Thing too small, etc.

Yeah that could be the reason. But as my old English teacher used to say. Sometimes it's better to stick with the evil that you know. Because as you said they struggled with heights with Icons and for every person that was happy with the switch to a smaller scale there was someone that was left disappointed.

Likely to be more competitive with other super hero lines that are all in the 6" scale. It backfired though because they were smaller than line like Marvel Legends. That never really bothered me but it did seem to bother many people. But DC is going back to the larger scale next year with Essentials so in the end you should be getting everything you wanted.

I think people are going to be disappointed with the scale of the Essentials. I heard they are 6.75 inch, they are going to tower over Legends. After Icons switched to larger builds in wave 4, they are much closer to Marvel Legends. The Rebirth Batman looks great with Legends imo. Just a shame DCC didn't do a great job letting everyone know that they rescaled.

Just got one overall it's a great Nightwing figure to add to your collection... only gripe I have with mine are the leg joints seem really loose.

Cause I just don't think the sales were there. The line was appealing to those who collected the older 7" figures nor was it that appealing who those that collected 6" figures like ML and DC Multiverse, cause these figures tended to be smaller in scale. Personally I think if DC had just tweeked the scale on these so they were more in keeping with ML the line would have picked up in popularity, but I guess we will see how essentials go.

Essentials look so cheap in comparison and it seems like they won't even come with interchangeable hands. Well, I'll just wait for DC to release whatever they replace Essentials with.

But man i don't think it's too much difference, for example this Nightwing, it's in pretty good scale with other Bat-Family members. Nightwing has always beign a middle/small size. Starfire, her eternal GF, has always been taller.

I will definitely buy this figure it seems really good. Also Jay C are you going to review the DC multiverse justice league batman that is a Walmart exclusive and comes with three half's of the mother boxes and is his regular justice league suit not the tactical? I know it hasn't quite hit the U.S. yet but I was just wondering from what I've seen it looks pretty good. EDIT: Also a more armored up version of cyborg from the movie comes with the other three half's to the motherboxes and is also a Walmart exclusive.

I've heard they have started hitting US Walmarts but have not found them myself. I may get Batman if I ever see it at my local Walmart. Doubt I will get Cyborg, just not different enough from the regular version I already have. The only JL Movie Multiverse exclusive figure I am that interested in getting is the Parademon one which I still don't even know which store that one will see release at. My guess is TRU but we will see.

Yeah I agree I’ll probably get the Batman and the parademon too but not the cyborg. Also have you heard anything about the Aquaman that isn’t wearing the armor? They showed it at SDCC but I haven’t heard anything else about. Also thanks for the reply.

Pretty sure NECA said that 2 pack is on hold due to licensing issues.

It hasn't been released and if fact right now those are in limbo as NECA is having some issues getting them cleared for release. Unfortunately its a possibility those could end up being canceled all together, though NECA says they are still working on trying to get them released. So we will see. If they do come out, I will review them.

Are these DC Direct figures still falling apart?... I used to buy them years ago but they always break apart.... Those Arkham Games figures were the worst offenders!

alejandromolinac These aren't apart of Dc Direct. In fact DC Direct was changed to Dc Collectibles which the Icons line is apart of which Dc Icon figures are pretty good in terms of sculpt and accesories even articulation. Just Dc icons line has suffered abit due to alot of cancellations with figures being released even slight inconsistencies with some sculpts bit the figures are generally really great despite some people complaining on size or scale since a lot of their figures are slightly smaller to Marvel Legends and the previous Dc direct figures. But if you can look past that these figures are over all solid.

I have always liked these DC Figures... my issue is the breaking which has happened to me a LOT!!! Not a big Marvel Legends fan as they love using the same body with a new head and painted on "clothes" which makes them feel cheap... I least those don't break... I Would buy this guy... just afraid he's gonna break...

alejandromolinac The Dc icons figures are solid figures. Just like with any figure you still gotta not be too rough with them which is just common sense tbh. Like if you feel a joint that is too hard to bend don't force it since you'll end up breaking it. You'll have to run it under hot water or use the hair dryer trick but really none of these figures are fragile despite their size. Only thing you gotta be mindful and be alittle patient with changing out the hands because the pegs are tiny on them. Other then that this line haves solid figures I have 4 from Dc Icons line and love em them and wish to get the rest even for characters I don't care much on like Blue Beetle or Mister Miracle since how well they are made.
