I see a lot of people commenting trying to figure out your bank account, which is absolutely no of the viewers business. So some just a little sound advice from an old head. I was born and raised in The Bronx, NY. And currently my father's side still lives in NY and my mother's side lives in Greensboro NC. So somewhat similar. Jayla do not try and keep up with the Jones' You are a very smart girl find that happy place in your budget and try your best not to spend every dime of that budget just on living. Some of these places will cost an arm and a leg and the bedroom is smaller than my damn closet. What people don't understand is renting does absolutely nothing for you, doesn't help your credit score by paying on time and all that money is basically going down the drain. Just keep weighing out your options boo you will find exactly where you need to be. My best advice to you is don't blow threw your hard earned money girl. I recently purchased a brand new constructed 4 bedroom 4 and half bathroom house and pay $1400 and month due to putting 20 grand down on that home. And I got there through saving and not living beyond my means right out of college. It's overwhelming, but it can be done.

Jerika Wilson The first thing I did was sit down with a banker at the bank I'm with (Wells Fargo). I scheduled a meeting with my private banker and he helped me come up with a plan. My spending habits were horrible before I can honestly admit that. But he explained to me it never too late to get it right. We opened up one major credit card that I can only use on emergencies. And if I swipe my credit card I'd pay off the full balance come payment time. There is so much that goes into your credit score like history of credit, credit utilization. If you make that appointment and find someone you can trust make a plan and stick to it as best you can. Second on saving the down payment for the home. I opened up an account and requested not to have a debit card for that account. So really the only thing I did in the account was deposit a % of my checks. And then I had my other savings accounts that was more accessible that I saved in as well. Any extra money, bonuses from work, tax refunds all that went into savings. Multiple lines of income is the next goal for 2017. We can do this ya'll

HOW WOULD I CHOOSE WHERE I WOULD MOVE? As someone just starting out I would stay somewhere close enough to see family, what are my goals and what place would fit those goals for me, what is my type of lifestyle and what area fits that best because you need to be somewhere where you can wake up daily and do the things you love and get things done efficiently for your type of lifestyle. Also you're a KZbinr and vlogging you will need many places to be able to shop, hang out where things are happening to keep your content interesting. I remember when you was at your first college you did not like how boring the area was and the school so it did not fit you. You are a very energetic and vibrant person that loves to be out and about so you need an area that is quiet enough for you to film in your apartment but live in an area where you can walk a few blocks or take a short car or Uber ride to all the conveniences. Also as a single person it would be great to have somewhere to have easy transportation in case your car doesn't work or the weather. Well as a Realtor I am asked this quite often, but in the end its all up to you, good luck with your decision.

Alexis G And believe it or not, those rates for apartments in NY are the starting rates for renting an apartment in New York. My sister's apartment was, like, $1300 or $1400; and that was her very first apartment with herself and 3 other roommates, which was in 2000. And now that it's basically 2017, (you might as well say), the condo she's living in now is about $2200 a month. My point is to live in New York, you gotta make sure that you're financially secured before moving to New York.

Hey Jayla, I recommend keeping your options open. You never know what job may fall in your lap. Perhaps waiting to see what happens as it gets closer for you to graduate b4 you make your decision. Who wants to be in a lease and your job is in a different location thats maybe too far for a reasonable commute. The sky is the limit, and I say always keep your options open. Since I am a lot older than you, I can tell you from experience that's exactly what I did after finishing undergrad. I searched and applied for the job that I wanted to do the most and then, I relocated based on the new job location. Thank you for bringing us along while you apartment shop. For your New Years resolution, you should make a vision board. You really need to think, "what do I want to do in life?". Once you're able to answer that question, research the best areas that people are successful in your field. What are the pros and cons to each area? What is the average salary for your dream job in each area? The cost of living? Those factors should narrow down your options.

I live about 5 miles away from D.C. and I never cared for the city because of the confusing one way streets and the parking issues. Whenever I got to D.C. I just hop on the train so I can avoid parking fees and trying to find a parking spot on the street. Based off what I know from living in Maryland it wouldn't hurt to look at apartment in the Maryland and Virginia area and take metro (train) whenever you go to D.C. Plus it's always pricier in the city but you can definitely get more bang for your buck in Maryland or Virginia.

As a native Washingtonian I so enjoyed watching you "New DC" apartment shop. We hate all of these new high rises popping up but they are pretty. I liked the last one. :-) As a graduate school administrator and personal finance enthusiast, I'd recommend you park your car at dad's house and utilize the subway. If you live in DC you can get just about anywhere on the Metro (school, lounges/clubs, malls, grocery stores, etc.). Save yourself some money and the pain of parking meters and tickets, at least on weekdays. Having family near by is ALWAYS great. What I've learned is that most of the students I work with go where their greatest job opportunity is while being near enough to family and/or friends. Not sure how old you are but you could build for say like two years somewhere and then keep it moving. Skills are transferrable so you'll be fine. DC now and NY later is still a plan. My first time coming across your channel and I enjoyed your vlog!! Good Luck with everything!!

Praying and fasting always bring clarity. Give it a little time and wait for God to open those doors and you'll know exactly where you're supposed to be!
@jheath9058 жыл бұрын
You already said it - pray about it, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide your footsteps. For me, I wanna be either in New York or in Atlanta. Since I desire to be in the Fashion Industry, I can only see myself in either two of those places. With me, my family is so huge that anywhere I go I have family there. So family isn't an issue for me, however, being my own person is. Though I'm in my 20's, I've been sheltered my entire life. So I would want to first know what it is that I wanna do, research the states I can excel in with the career path that I desire to pursue, pray for direction/asking the Holy Spirit to direct my footsteps, and walk by faith and not by my own sight, (which can be easier said than done at times). But I believe that you're gonna be fine. I'm so excited for you, Jayla, and to be viewing your journey is quite an honor and such a inspiration for me to go what I want in my own life. So thank you for sharing your journey to us.

I'm just a littleeeee bias because I'm from the DC area (lol), but DC is right in the middle between your NC home and New York. Downtown DC definitely can give the New York vibe. As far as transportation, DC's Metro system is reliable and good for the most part so if DC is a serious option for you, then definitely look for places near a metro station and then your options are endless for where you wanna go. But definitely keep praying and God will surely guide you on this decision! 💕

Plus you can also learn how to use our train and bus system so that you don't have to worry about parking or the meters. I'm glad that you're thinking about moving here
@xokree8 жыл бұрын
When choosing to move Jayla, you need to see which is better for your degrees, no matter what follow the money AND COST OF LIVING, and what's gonna give u more bang for ur buck, bc u can always make ur apt into ur home so don't get caught up in flashy, ur a creative girl. The economy is what encouraged me to move to Texas and the fact that it's great for the dental community in which I am interested in. I feel like you should stay in DC because there are a ton of great opportunities there, maybe not as flashy as NYC but DC offers longevity in careers and affordability as a whole a tad bit better than New York. Stay in DC for a year, do a country girl becomes city girl series and then after that you will know better if you want a more faster or slower pace of life.

Like you mentioned in the video, God will open doors and he will place you in the city you are meant to be in! I would suggest using your connections and people you know in the field to see if there are any open positions where they are(being fresh out of college sometimes you just have to know people) also I just got a job offer last week from one of the best hospitals in Florida and I used CARRER BUILDER. lol girl.. when you showed the Walmart in DC I was like jaylaaaa.. don't be confused.. YOU IN THE HOOD!! Lol.. but down here you will get more for your money. Honestly, I'm from NYC and it's overrated. It's not the city to settle down in. As you get older, the fast pace life will get tiresome. There is no family value in NYC. The work atmosphere is different from college. It's all about the hustle. BUT the night life and social life are the best parts of NYC. Don't make a decision on feelings. Do your research and be smart. What city do you see yourself in when you are 35... 45... 55. That will help narrow down why you are moving now. If you say "I see myself in the south as I'm older" then this move is temporary and just for the experience. If that's the case cash out. But if you are trying to start your life and a family (find a husband).. a hustle bustle city will be hard.. DC or MD will be better for that. Just find your purpose or what you want out of the move and then you can make your decision.

I'm in the exact same position as you right now about to graduate college next spring and trying to figure out what I want to do with my life lol but I'm just going to do whatever makes me happiest. There's people in my life that are going to have their doubts about my choices but at the end of the day it's up to me and really doesn't concern anyone else. At this time in our lives we really don't have any limits on where we choose to go and luckily we can bounce back pretty quickly if we make the wrong turn. So my advice is to not really let anyone else's opinions influence your decision too much and shoot for the stars in terms of what makes you happy. Your possibilities are endless.

This is the beginning of your journey so see, do and be where you'll experience the most. If it turns out not to be what you thought, that's what movers are for. Enjoying watching your journey.

I feel that the move is based on the career you wanna start...once you figure out how you want to build your brand and career the dream apartment will follow. also you won't know what is perfect to you till you take a jump and try it. I can't wait to see where your next chapter will start!

I would say to stay close to your family...anw most of the things you want to do will be online...You can always go to NY or LA for business trip or short stays later on!

Oh and to picking a place. Finish your last semester then pick a place of where you want to be. Pray on it and ask God to guide your steps, lead you to that place. Have faith and move on it. I'm excited for your journey! Best of luck and blessings to you.

I'm graduating in May as well! It's definitely so much to think about and a ton of decisions have to be made. Although it's exciting it is also so stressful. During my spring break I'm going to go apartment hunting & hopefully on interviews in the other states that im interested in. Good luck & God Bless you!

Jayla, you know good and well NYC is where you want and need to be. you like it and you have the mindset, tools and experience to survive in nyc. so, don't second guess yourself, mama.

Jayla from experience I will tell you go where you are most happy. Folllow your heart but also take your brain with you lol . I recently rushed and moved to an apartment because I wanted to leave my hometown so bad and I am still unhappy . I love the apartment but it doesn't give me that feeling where I know I am truly happy. So that is my advice to you and also pray to God for some guidance ❤️. I am new subbie and I am looking forward to seeing you on your new journey. -Blessings

Jayla,all I would say is move to an area you mostly get excited about and can still be at least an hour away from your family.It's all about you and how you feel,but you also said you might be going to grad school.So,try to pay attention to the surroundings of the place and follow your heart.Love you Jayla!!#GlamSquad!!

I would say move where you would be more happy. If there are no limits. Personally from experience I moved from Los Angeles California, to Winston Salem North Carolina and there is LITERALLY NOTHING HERE. You can't grow here, you cant make money here, i have no family here what so ever, but i moved here with "NO LIMITATIONS" for college in Charlotte, NC & im 23 and honestly being here is depressing because i'm not near ANY family, Its nothing to do, everything is far, and i will be moving back to California in June. So my advice to you is be write your pros and cons about each state and include, family, holidays, emergencies, happiness, is it easy to make friends, what are key things you need that are in the area you want to live in. Are there jobs around what you want to do with your degree? are there "KZbin space creative things to do or places to film?. Is it somewhere you can see yourself for the next 5 years? but Im so proud of you girl i know you'll make the right decision.
@misskaiable8 жыл бұрын
I think you should base your decision on what you want to do after college. I know acceptance letters don't come out until next semester, but ask yourself if that's what you really want to do. I think you might want to have a personal discussion about your next step. Once you figure that out everything else will fall into place. Good luck girl!

Man I was hoping you would have slipped up with the camera and we would have saw a glimpse of tour guide. Before you even said anything I was like tour guide sound like he could be fine with some potential lol. Come to NY girl! Nah seriously I would go where I was most happiest and where I think I have the best career opportunities in my field.

Jayla this is like my 3rd comment but I hope you read this......I hate that NY is way more pricey with small looking apartments lol..those DC apartments look nicer imo and I'm sure they're less expensive. You could always move to New York in the future. It's not going anywhere. You should find a job that you like in DC for now and later down the road find an even better job in NY and move there. Keep in mind that when you're older there's also more opportunities.

The last set of apartments was absolutely beautiful and I feel as if it has a lot to offer with the zin garden and bar area where you could host gatherings. As far as choosing a place to live I say choose base on the job market and the stability of jobs in the area.
