I.... I am about to get deep. Ten years ago I was a mother to three young children. I was a few years out of high school and already on my fourth major relationship; engagement, marriage, etc. It's what I'd always wanted--I'd never had anything like it, and the TV shows made it look so good. I didn't mind the failed marriages; I loved the children. I was working as hard as I could to support them, and keep them safe from their abusive father. I trusted someone I'd met in the abuse victims program, and, I had left for work that morning same as any other in their care, thinking everything would be ok. Everything was not ok. I can't say it out loud. I can't bear it. But, today, the alternate universe where Bruce's mom becomes The Joker-- I get it. I know I'm just one step away from something like that happening myself, and it's a constant, brutal struggle to maintain. To not go full Joker. To try and stay The Batman, or at least Bruce Wayne. It was a humbling, feeling moment to see that comic writers had made into a story what I'd been living all this time. And one that I'll take to heart, so that I am reminded of why I don't let one more push drive me over the edge.
