Another cautionary tale: if the power supply is big and heavy it's likely to be the older type with a real transformer. These give out a higher voltage when unloaded and I've accidentally toasted a cheap breadboard PSU with one. That turned the AMS1117 into a pass through which meant anything on breadboard was likely to be destroyed by the higher voltage. 00:40 On music front, I've read most guitar pedals are centre negative.

can I charge my 12v Li-ion battery pack with an AC adapter? It has 1.25A 12v output.

Does a power supply of for example 2A waste energy if it is being used with a 500mA device? Is the 500mA device damaged by using higer amperage than required?

The device will only draw what it needs when it comes to amps. Higher amp ratings are ok.
