You don't have to kill the Nailsmith. If you don't, he moves in with the Nail Arts Disciple in the Queen's area, and takes up painting. It's one of the few side activities where you can choose *not* to do anything horrible, and nothing horrible happens as a result.

The entire time I've been shrugging off how sad things are here, but when the nailsmith asked you to cut him down with his own final creation? That actually made me say out loud, "Wow this game is messed up!" Congrats on... an ending!

Hive blood is great for the white palace. Just wait briefly between attempts and you'll never be sent back to the bench. You know, you could NOT kill the Nailsmith.

Game is so depressing, even the (sorta) final boss is trying to end it.

The tally is in: Hiveblood healed you for 1 during the boss fight. A few times it almost healed you, but you cancelled it by focus healing instead. It was 4 notches for half of an unbreakable heart, which is usually 2 notches. It really is deceptively bad. Looks so good, but is basically useless in practice - except in niche circumstances. So keep that in mind, anyone wanting to play this game in the future.

I think it's usually better to just go for damage/utility. If you're skilled enough to avoid getting hit for the passive healing, you're already better off just beating the enemy faster instead.

After spending the entire playthrough talking about how you dislike how sad everything in this game is, you purposefully take the sad route in one of the few plotlines that can actually end happily. Yeah, if Radiance were available to fight Hornet would have come in and interrupted to give you an opportunity to dream nail, initiating the fight. But you didn't have the Void Heart, so there was nothing to worry about there.

Guardian's crest (the fart cloud) deals 1 damage per tick (when it hits)... compared to the 21 from the nail, that's nothing. It might have saved you 1 nail hit during the fight. If you had spore shroom, then that would be 2 per tick and a much bigger cloud (after a heal), which would be more significant. P.S: You would need void heart to do the dream nail. You didn't have that.
