I actually relate to that Fitzgibbon cop a lot. I often do so much that is apparently wrong or cringey but my mind simply doesn't see it or understand so I end up confused when people think it's weird! Some of our brains jsut don't comprehend stuff the same way.

A couple of things about the piano scene. First off, that is a cover of Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue. Which makes the scene even more perfect because Chris is starting to feel st home, not just with these people, but with himself as well after just admitting he doesn't want to kill anyone anymore. The second thing is this scene came about after James Gunn received news while filming that his dog was dying and while he was waiting for his ride to the airport, John Cena sat at the piano they had on set and played him a song to help. "John got up and sat at the grand piano and played the most beautiful rendition of The Pixies "Where is my mind" It crushed me and yet soothed me and everyone around me was crying. I wanted to capture some semblance of that moment with this song."

I knew Cena could act from watching his WWE days, but he really is good. Coming from pro wrestling has always been iffy in terms of an acting career, but Cena is killing it.

James Gunn's secret is he gets the shot as planned and then keeps rolling as he just let's the actor go free with the scene. Heyerdahl's easter eggs are a good example as is Cena's listing of alternative scapegoat names (he was supposed to list 2, but listed like 80)

This has probably been mentioned already but Freddie Stroma was in three Harry Potter movies--Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2. He also played Sam Tarly's little brother in one episode of GoT and like Hector said he's also in Bridgerton and he was in a Kevin James show on Netflix called The Crew that was canceled after one season. Chukwudi Iwuji is mostly a stage actor, that's why he's so good. He's popped up in stuff like John Wick 2, Doctor Who, When They See Us and The Underground Railroad. Christopher Heyerdahl has been a character actor since the 80s, he was in Blade Trinity, Halle Berry's Catwoman and The Chronicles of Riddick all in the same year! He was also in three Twilight movies and he played Zor-El on Smallville.

We go from Peacemaker talking to kids in school (and discovering he possibly has a kid) to alien butterflies 🦋 brutally and horrifically possessing and entire police force and the inmates of their jail. Only in a James Gunn movie. Also Eagly is the most badass bird I have ever seen.

I recognize Christopher Heyerdahl from the Stargate Atlantis as a 2 recurring character. He was in a few other DC properties Zor-El in Smallville, Jack Gruber (Electrocutioner) in Gotham, he was also in Arrow, the travesty that is Catwoman film & the Human Target series; six DC appearances including Peacemaker. You might also recognize him from the Twilight films and in Blade Trinity.

I know Christopher Heyerdahl from Sanctuary and Van Helsing, both shows on the SyFy channel. He was especially fantastic in Van Helsing. Stole not just his scenes but the entire show at times.

The advantage of being writer/director is that you can write your characters to fit the strengths of your actors. When we see bad performances it usually is a combination of (a) a script that was written well before anyone was cast, (b) not enough time to do take after take until the actors hit the perfect point, and (c) casting by name (or budget) instead of matching the character.

I'm pretty sure the Butterflies are just one half of Starro. James Gunn split them into 2 characters, the giant starfish named Starro didn't really want to conquer, while the Butterflies do

I've never had an issue with the guys talking over the show, but man... that is beautiful emotional music playing and you're making jokes over it not even taking it in.
