Engine nacelle not too hot. The exhaust tip would be the largest concern. This looks to be the CF6, which has it's tip pretty close to the end of the nacelle. And it's under the wing anyways. Also consider that it's probably less hot than a fire on the plane!!

@aeromoe5 жыл бұрын
Vast Majority of the poor safety record incidents were not the fault of the aircraft. #1/2: American DC-10 Windsor Ontario / THY DC-10 Paris, France - cargo door unlatching in flight. Fault of the aircraft, yes. Fixed. #3: American at ORD May 1979. Maintenance procedure on #1 engine: Maintenance fault. #4 Western at Mexico City Oct 1979- Pilot landed on wrong runway in fog. #5 - Air New Zealand Nov 1979 - Pilot error flew into mountain side in whiteout conditions. #6 United at Sioux City 1989 (#2 engine failure) #7 - Korean Air at Tripoli, Libya - pilot error on landing. #8 - UTA DC-10 over Chad - terrorist's bomb. Quite a few other crashes with fatalities that involved pilot error or other. So yes, quite a few airframes destroyed with lives lost. DC-10 at fault? Very few of them.
@fortcrafterbossbehold9027 Жыл бұрын
@@aeromoe I would say more like quite a bit of them but by 1979 when the DC10's record dipped, all of the plane's fault were already fixed. The reputation had already stuck by then though. Then AA191 and UA232 were just cherries on the top of the cake.

@aeromender Жыл бұрын
The way it works is, the pilots alert the cabin crew that they will need to evacuate the aircraft. The cabin crew are well trained to look outside to assess if the exit is clear. If the engine was on fire the pilot would alert the crew to not use exits on the left hand side of the aircraft. And if he failed to alert them, they are still trained to look first before opening the exit. Also, many emergency evacuations don’t involve engine fires. Point being that the door is there to be used if appropriate. And for an airplane that can hold up to 385 people that’s a requirement.

It was, but suffered a horrible start-of-life safety record. The L-1011 was to the DC-10 as Roomba is to the Honda Robot. Both are great, but the latter is more technologically advanced. The L-1011 was one of the first aircraft to come equipped with Auto-Land, technology that allowed it to fly into airports in near zero visibility. It also boasted one of the greatest safety records of commercial aircraft. It's too bad it didn't sell well enough to keep Lockheed in the commercial jet business.

Oh for sure. They get sent to a shop that inspects the slide and repacks it. It’s a lot of work. Definitely not something that is done on site. We put a replacement pack back on the airplane. All aircraft slide packs have an expiration date at which point they are removed and sent in for overhaul.

I wonder why the slide doesn’t pop out of the fuselage behind the wing, like on a 767, so the top of the slide is at the back of the wing and not at the door
@aeromender4 жыл бұрын
The DC10 has a much narrower wing to body fairing over the wing so not enough room. That said, the overwing slide system on the 767, which I work on, is complex and notoriously sensitive and easily fired by accident. Cost to renew an overwing slide system is about $30k per side.
