I have recently purchased a DC5 Type-R, and even though I think it's objectively a somewhat better car than the DC2, I have to concede that the DC2 is the most raw and iconic of the two. Hell, the DC2 Type-R may be the most iconic of all the Honda Type-Rs, even including the NSX and S2000.

Thanks for the video. I own a DC2R and have not driven a DC5R. I would expect the performance would be better with newer technology. A new Camry is faster than an NA aircooled 911 but it doesn't matter. It is all about the driving and ownership experience. Buy what makes you happy.

Theft is not a huge concern for me as it is my weekend car and not a daily. My DC2 ITR is parked in the garage when I am not driving it. Gone are the days when owners would leave their R in a movie theater parking lot to go watch Star Wars for three hours.

The major flaw in the ep3/dc5 is the front suspension design. In curves the outer wheel looses alot negative camber, to a point that sometimes even become positive. I use 255 tires and -4 camber and it's not enough. A dc2/eg6 with 205 tires and - 3 camber has more grip than my ep3

I now own a dc5 and use to own a dc2 a few years back,the dc2 wins hands down for handling and that unbelievable honda engine note, the k20 is like a softer version of the dc2,the k20 has more lower down torque but the engine sounds crap, but getting a good condition dc2 these days is extremely hard that's the only reason I got the dc5 now

Coming from owning 12 integras 9 which are “dc2s” and two da’s i can tell you the difference is engine chassis and appearance. The integra vibe is 100% there. Same vibe from 94-2006. Its a really raw experience. And the engine is so fun man. If you haven’t experienced owning/driving a da or dc you need too. Make sure its on good coils and a gutted one is a plus haha.

@Sideways G one of the reasons why the DC2 auction bids are so high is because they were released here in the US. If it were the same as a DC5R only being released in the motherland then it would be totally different. what you are looking at is US hype inflation. buy them in Japan and they are not as pricey. I guarantee as soon as they are available in the US for RHD they will not be worth as much as the USDM cars. the NSX is the same way. Its the US that drives up the prices. This includes all other classic JDM 90s era cars.

From owning both I have to say overall the DC5 is the better. Only negatives is the McPherson struts make for worse feel from steering. K20a in the DC2 is what you want for a proper weapon but DC5 for more refined and timeless looks. I could go on forever they are so similar yet so different. Also why are you talking about the b18c5 not the b18c?

@John Mitchell Wrong.... All years JDM DC2 was B18C 197bhp. UK DC2 all years (which started in 98) is B18C6 187bhp, the 10bhp difference is only from the different header and ECU.

I've owned an LS and a Type-S so I can't legitimately have a true opinion...but from the steering feel of those cars the LS felt much more nimble. The S was more powerful but felt sloppy...

Wich is the better one depends on what you mean by better. Better one on one stock racing? DC5R, overall. Better car when they came out? Arguably I'd say DC2R. But in the end it's what you personaly like and or look for in a car. Further more, you can not compare a USDM/EDM type R to a JDM one (stock for stock).

I own a dc5 n there is no power to speak off,realistically 170bhp or so at the wheels, these cars are just for fun in the bends not accelerating or high speed,its fun to drive :)

Just do some suspension work on your dc5. On my dc5 I have voodoo polyurethane front and rear control arms (rearsubframs), street bushings, sway bars, strut bar and some street coilovers. I also have hasport motor mounts which does stiffen up the front end a bit. It handles so well, there's hardly any body roll and the car feels nice and stiff.

I own fd2r which is superior to dc5r. Agree with k20 being better engine and has higher potential. It feel as, k20 is just too well refined, hence I still prefer driving my dc2r, the rawness of b18 makes it so much more enjoyable even if it is a little slower.

Have you actually driven a DC5 Type R? To the best of my knowledge they aren't available in the States yet, due to your amusing import restrictions. It sounds like any real-world comparison you're making is between a DC2 Type R and a version of RSX. Let me make something very clear: an RSX and DC5 Type R are not the same car. I agree, the DC2 is 'The One' if you want the original, full-on Type-R experience (assuming you've discounted an EK9, or can't afford an NSX-R). But what are you basing your DC5 knowledge on? Also, in this day and age, the K20A (from the DC5 Type R - not an RSX) is eminently more tuneable and more widely supported than the B18C found in the DC2, so your arguments for tuning and aftermarket are flawed as well - not to mention any of the engine swaps you suggested for the DC2 could be done to the DC5 as well. And if you're talking about Honda's best engines then the F20C and C32B must surely take centre stage. Anyone who knows cars, not just Honda fans, generally agrees the DC2 is the better Integra. It will be the collectors piece ahead of it's DC5 sibling. But this sounds like an inherently biased point of view.

Come on man. A DC5 is completely different to an RSX. The DC5 is still pretty raw and loud inside and the suspension is firmer than a lot of coilovers as it's made for Japan. My mate had a bone stock DC5 and said mine was softer with Meister's R coilovers and some poly bushes

Depends on which rsx youre talking about. 05-06 type s share a lot of the same type r features, and their engines are nearly exactly the same. Second gen rsx also has a very stiff ride.

Shares the exact same bore and stroke, cams, exhaust manifold and throttle body. It will also rev to the same levels when tuned for it. Reason we did not get a variant of the k20a was because that motor was factory tuned on 100 octane, which is very rare in the US.

He was referring to the transmissions that go with them. The transmissions on the B-series engines are more reliable than the transmissions on the K-series engines.

If you’ve got a 96 spec fit a 98 spec final drive. If you’ve got a 98 spec fit a 96 spec fourth and fifth. That sorts out the gear ratios on the hills.

While McPherson has its pros and cons, especially on the Dc5, again, the suspension geometry and rear end issues are easily corrected and understood now. Dc5 beats the Dc2 with relative ease already WITH the understeer probelm.

I've driven both and prefer and bought a type S with a k24/k20. I do prefer the look of the dc2, however. But not by much. I raced gs-r my friend has and it wasn't really a contest. I've installed strut braces and underbody braces with new stock shocks and ride height, but upgraded the control arm bushings. I live my dc5

Ive owned both a dc2 integra type r (w/b16a dont ask y) and a dc5 integra IS. (And also db7 sir integra with the b18c1). And honestly id take the dc5. Looks, quality, speed it could do everything i wanted. Not to crazy about the whole race car thing but when i own a car i look for overall roundness so that means it can do everything.

Agreed with many aspects you point out. The DC2 is the most popular that’s why it’s the #1 most stolen car. Because of that the DC5 received anti-theft installed making it very difficult to steal that car. The DC2 engine reached its peak and the DC5 became the new better engine thus replacing it. I say the DC5 is the better between the two cars. DC2 fans have always hated the DC5 when it first came out and till this day they still don’t favor it. Each car has its pros and cons. I previously owned an Integra with a B series engine and those engines tend to have quite some problems and they require more maintenance than K series engines. The K series engines are the better engines that’s why they still continue to include them in modern cars. B series had its time and everyone else had already moved on and forgot about them. Other than those very loyal B series fans/enthusiasts.

When the DC2 (Integra) came out in 1992, the styling stood out in a crowded market and the car has aged well. While the DC5 (RSX) had far less of an impact on the market with it's me too Honda coupe styling.

The "dc2" in the video wasn't a type r, that was dc4 clone with a sunroof. Not comparable at all, dc2 chassis is a more sophisticated racer than dc4 and dc5. The ultimate combo is a dc5 k series in a dc2

@@viii8993 ofcause the ek9 is better then that fd2 but by ur logic of better=faster lol fucking idiot faster does not mean better, the ek9 still handles better just like the dc2 thats why people perfer those chassis over the newer models its cheaper, lighter and overall faster if mod but we talking stock vs stock right so u cant compare a ek9 vs fd2 to a dc2 vs dc5 cause a fd2 is pretty much the same as a dc5 same drivetrain pretty same weight u might as well just say ek9 vs dc5 of cause its gona be faster then a little 1.6 ek9 but then again faster does not mean better keyboard racer takes one to know one

DC5 is the code of all 2002-2006 integra's and RSX's (Type-R, IS, Type-S etc.) RSX is just for the north american market
