Wow, I think you just saved my life. I have spent weeks in a state of confusion. Thanks to you I feel like I just won the lottery in finding this video. I thought there was no hope left for me in understanding Trigonometry. You may have just saved me from dropping out of my math class. You rock, and you're awesome at explaining the concept. WOW - excellent explanation of these concepts. And very good job of relating these abstract geometric concepts to practical applications. Rather than calculate height, I've applied this to land navigation, determining a new heading to a destination a known distance away after having to deviate from the original heading by a known distance at a right angle. I was looking all over youtube for this info. THANKS FOR THIS.

3:35 clearly the red "a" line is longer than the green when lined up together, since the red triangle is bigger, but how do they both total 45.9 degrees?
@angeloros86615 жыл бұрын
the ratio of the 2 sides of the green triangle is 45.9%. Meaning the shorter side is 45.9% the length of the hypotenuse. And its the the same for the red triangle, the shorter side is 45.9% of the hypotenuse. Anybody in 2020 seeing this?

hi i have a question. my professor ask us to find for the other trigonometric functions of this given, TanA=[(x+y)^1/2]/x. we know that tan=o/a so i assumed that the numerator (x+y)^1/2 is the opposite side and the denominator is 'x' is the adjacent side. i did the pythagorean theorem to get the hypotenuse and it gave me this trinomial 'x^2+x+y which is not a perfect square trinomial so i just answered '(x^2+x+y)^1/2' as the hypotenuse.

thank you!!!!! thank you!!!! thank you!!!!! When most instructors, I have had, attempt to teach trig functions, they always, always, always, seem to skip over the most important part -- what these functions REALLY ARE!!!!! They seem to expect the student to either, follow the application of the functions without question or that the student already knows and understands. This is a false assumption by these intelligent instructors.This is like a professional coach, of any professional sport, skipping over the fundamentals of the given sport during practice. they harm, rather than help their team. So again, thank you!!! this was a clear and direct fundamental explanation! Do you accept checks? I pay too much for university instruction and gain nothing anyway -- LOL.

I know how to apply the theory but how does it work? How does the sine, cosine and tangent allow us to calculate the unknown sides/angles? Why can't I apply this function on triangles that does not have a 90 degree? I can memorize toa, cah, soh but I don't know how trigonometry works and how people thought of it to solve questions.

help! im a7th grader studying for a test called PSAT and there will be questions like what is the value of cos(180degrees) how do i solve this
@kilolimamikealphabravo73449 жыл бұрын
+Aarya T To solve that in particular function, you first need a graphing calculator. Then you MUST switch it to degree mode, otherwise it won't come as the right answer especially for solving right triangles. Now you just hit COS on your calculator, then you simply type in the degree value, close the brackets, then you're good for your own equation there. For these types of questions make sure you use the right one for your equations, and you should be good. The hardest part for you will very likely be switching around the numbers, as a lot of people don't add it to both sides (see the end of the video) Does this answer your question? Anything else you need help with?
@aaryatallada33459 жыл бұрын
+kilo, lima mike alpha bravo yes, no, and thank you
@kingabrar23389 жыл бұрын
+Aarya T Yes he or she is right because it has to be on Degree (DEG) so that the function of Sin, Cos, or Tan is present and to do inverse sin, cos, or tan you have to either press Second Function (F) on your calculator or inverse (inv).

One thing I am still having trouble grasping is how it is determined which angle theta will be. I get that it can only be two angles in the triangle, and forgive me if it was already explained, but does it matter which angle you designate as theta? I'm can't determine which side will be the opposite and which side will be the adjacent. I have a work sheet with the answers already written down, so I know if i get the right answer or not, but If I cant figure out which side is the opposite and which side is the adjacent then I wont use the correct ratio, and basically have to do it by process of elimination until i get the right answer. this wont work on a test though. Any takers? I know its simple but i struggle with math and this is just the worst.
