This explains a lot. And looks much more beautiful when you compare speed matching to economics.

I use the Prodigy Express DCC, I'm about to install a couple Digitrax decoders in 2 of my locos and this will help out tremendously. Currently my roster has 2 BLI Paragon 3 locos and your video will be my helper in speed matching all of my roster.

Great video. Nicely explained, and great results you got with the NS unit. Yeah, it can be a time consuming and potentially frustrating and confusing process even when you have speed matched a number of times. Awesome that you have got them matched to the point of using powered DPU’s, that’s very cool.

You make it look so easy! I've found that getting each loco to start at the same speed step is the difficult part. As you said in another reply, so many variables to get sorted before you start.

If you have serious issues, don't forget about CV3. Sometimes if you delay the throttle response just a bit, it fixes the problem. Honestly, I haven't had much luck with that BUT, it might just be the answer. I think you get a 0-31 range on that one. Definitely make sure your locos are tuned before speed matching.

Good info. Helpful.

you would think just making all the numbers the same on all loco's would make them all pretty close. but all manufacturers use different motors and decoders. so that makes it a bit of work. lol

True story. Some of them are a real pain to match; lots of factors in it, too: gearing, motors, even how well oiled they are and how clean the wheels and wipers are affect the performance. It's nice to have this level of control, but it sucks trying to make it right. Ah, good ol' DC, turn it on and away it goes!
