@mistamontiel00 VGA uses the 640 active horizontal pixels of the dreamcast and recodes them to a VGA signal (640x480, with 1:1 pixel aspect ratio), while 480p displays all 720 horizontal pixel of the dreamcast video 480p signal (720x480, but with 8:9 pixel aspect ratio for 4:3 picture aspect ratio, 32:27 pixel aspect ratio for 16:9 picture aspect ratio). Most games only use the the inner 640 pixels inside the 480p signal (with a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio), so to get proper pixel aspect ratio, you use VGA, for some rare widescreen/homebrew games all 720 horizontal pixels are used, so then you can switch to 480p mode.

Looks very nice, and as you say probably the best output quality available from a Dreamcast, but it's still just an upscale. The Dreamcast is only rendering internally at 480p max, whereas emulators can render at much higher resolutions internally, so the title's a tad misleading.
@thomascharnock6 жыл бұрын
1080p was used, as its a standard, and 960p fits nicely inside. The video being display is really 960p - the 1080p just makes compatibility 100% with all TVs. So it's 960p, not 1080p - certainly not 480p. This is direct from citrus3000psi who created the board.
@bombjack19846 жыл бұрын
@@thomascharnock It's a 960p signal coming from the board, but the Dreamcast is still rendering at 480p which is passed to the board for reprocessing. That's a big difference in image quality from natively rendering at 960p (which the Dreamcast wouldn't have the GPU power to do). This product is a nice internal video upscaler/processor, but it's not making the Dreamcast HD.

@@bombjack1984 fair enough - I'm mainly going off what the creators tell me (you're more knowledgeable in this field than I am, I can already tell that from your reply!)

Yes, video from dreamcast is in fact always 480p/480i. The upscale options can help if you like a crisp image without any interpolation done by your TV.

@@thomascharnock No worries, the important bit is that this is a pretty cool product for clean image quality on modern TVs. Love seeing stuff like this, particularly for Dreamcast.

Very nice image quality. If this can output all titles (vga/rgb) correctly without need for tweaks I'll be interested - my tv doesn't like rgb via the Akura using the switch trick, so I have to switch to scart for some games. Test Last Blade 2, Bangai-O, Jo-Jo's Bizarre Adventure, KoF 99 Dream Match - they're the main ones that require me to switch cables. What's the issue with the shadows in Garou? Is that a problem with your capture? They definitely don't look like that via hdmi using the Akura - or via an rgb scart for that matter.
@thomascharnock6 жыл бұрын
It's compatible with non-VGA games too, but you need (I think) to have the standard A/V cable also plugged in. I'll try to get full clarification and update the article in the description.

How to combine 2 audio signals from HDMI As I've known so far there aren't receivers that mix audio. I want to mix 2 HDMI sources, lets say 1 is a PS4 and second is Xbox One, how would I mix them in 7.1? Mix the 2 audio sources into 1, is there a way of doing that? What is the simplest way. I know that there are stereo mixers, but haven't heard of a HDMI one. What is the simplest way of mixing both signals? I think it might have something to do with modulating the signals, but I don't specifically know how modulators work.

NICE! but the presentation leeds me to some questions. 1. which signal is beeing used, some snippeds looks like it is upscaled vom 240p / 480i. 2. Since 960 is a multiple of 480 an 240 it should be borderless. could you present a snipped of 960 with low (at video you used 175, say the half) tiny scanlines. that should minimies the blocky look, that every pixel is delivered twice. and 3. does it support widescreen ? could you try this? That would be awesome.

Will this best Beharbros Akura?
@dpaduk6 жыл бұрын
The sample shown of Garou Mark of the Wolves displays a weird flickering on shadows that the Akura outputs correctly as a transparency effect - it could be an issue with the capture of the video, if not it may be something fixable in a firmware revision... but at the moment I'd say the Akura or Gecko are the best options (in terms of price, convenience and performance) for hdmi out of the dc

Doesn't look that staggeringly different at all, not too impressed with this so far, maybe a side by side comparison would help the case, and if they could add Dreamcast Wi-Fi connectivity direct from the board, why not other things like Dreamcast widescreen mode - yes some Dreamcast titles were specifically written in widescreen for Dreamcast even if they didn't use it.
@videogameobsession6 жыл бұрын
It's because you are still seeing 480p graphics. Upscaling can only do so much when you're working with standard def textures. Emulation of course also scales the textures as well, but many people dislike emulation due to some inaccuracies and inherent latency. I suppose It's a trade-off whichever way you go. Maybe some day, many years from now, we will get a hybrid FPGA Dreamcast console which can not only scale the resolution, but also the textures as well.
@Fattydeposit6 жыл бұрын
I saw my first DCHDMI the other day and the quality is outstanding. Makes my VGA to HDMI via OSSC look messy. It's that good. The only possible improvement might be a future revision of the board that can output 4K. Until then, this here is literal perfection.

Watched it again and I must say the games look horribly jerky. The beautifully smooth 60 fps native games looks like 30 fps. Le Mans more like 20 fps (which is a 30 fps game). I think I'll pass and stick with the Beharbros gear.

As I said in my other reply, it's the capture device - the video is 60fps on the TV but the capture device is only capturing 25fps for some reason.

That's because it's not rendering the games at a higher resolution It's just upscaling the Dreamcast's native 480p resolution.
