People don't understand how loud 4:30 was backfield. I was in BK that year and in Dallas, it blew my brains out.
@highstimulation24977 ай бұрын
At the time that they recorded the pre-season CD, that part was not yet backfield, (at least on the recording,) and I always remember that it's crazy loud and in your face (as much of that recording is) at that moment. Some of it seemed due to the placement of the mics, perhaps. I always kinda wished it wasn't backfield, cause of how great it sounded on that recording.

@gunner-qf9eh Жыл бұрын
@@TheRailwayDrone Morning of Finals in 2000, BDs staff was tipped off that one of their bass drummers was in possession of drugs. They went to the member and went thru his stuff and confirmed he had drugs. He was immediately kicked off the Blue Devils and would not be able to perform later that night at finals. Several hours later, after BD had left for the stadium to the perform, the guy breaks into BDs equipment truck, puts on his uniform, grabs his bass drum and runs toward the stadium. As BD was warming up on the field, the kid runs past BDs staff and out onto the field before anyone could stop him. No one in the crowd or outside BD knew why the kid was late onto the field. Some thought maybe it was a equipment issue or a quick medical issue etc. Instead of making a scene, BDs staff doesn't go after him and the kid performs. But BDs staff was SUPER PISSED! When BD came off the field, they had the police waiting, and the kid was arrested for trespassing and other charges. So if you watch BDs finals performance from 2000, you will see five bass drummers, but at Finals Retreat, you will see only four bass drums. True story. No lie.

DCI design in the 20s innovation has gone to integrating so many props that drill is obscured in the overall show design. I miss drill like this. I believe 2000 was the first year hornlines could use Bb horns.

This is the best Cadets show besides 2011, 05, 83-85 and 99. No electronics, voice narrator, or marching band instruments. First of all, who titles their show "We are the Future"? Narcissists of America? That sets you up as the antagonist in the show. People hate you before you even start. Why not just make the title "Everyone Shut Up and Listen to Us". Amateur production error number one.
@jonb77002 жыл бұрын
The word "we" here can be interpreted in different ways. You've selected "we" as "us Cadets" whereas others could look at it as "us drum corps / DCI as a whole" or even "humanity." I tend to go with the latter based on the source material. Just curious if you've been to Epcot and seen Disney's production of this live?
@jesuspectre98832 жыл бұрын
@@jonb7700 Context is critical. A portion of the "Reflections of Earth" music is currently being used as the musical setting for a montage that is played in the airport waiting area for United States Customs Service at several US airports. The video alternates between an instructional film about the customs procedure and the montage of smiling people welcoming travelers to the US. Customs is still called "US Customs", not "We are the Future." Same with Cadets, they used a portion of the Disney production's music which was titled for a Disney context. Taken out of context and placed into a drum corps context, I recommend customizing the title to something a little more modest. This was Cadets' era of hubris. A few years later, they screamed at us "I BELIEVE IN COMMUNITY!" at the start of their show. After that boisterous statement, the audience's response was okay, okay Jesus, what's his problem? Same here. Out of context, it reeks of ego. A simple Millenium Celebration is fine.

@@jesuspectre9883 I understand what you're saying. For example, one of your favorite shows of all time - 1993 Star of Indiana - titled their show "The Music of Barber and Bartók" instead of "Giant Middle Finger to Everyone in DCI" While both titles are an accurate description of the show, they went the the former. 🤣
