A hat tip to a brilliant, underrated 80's road movie set to Blind Faith's classic "Can't Find My Way Home," which closes it.
This is strictly for entertainment purposes and I gain no profits by posting this.

Great tribute. I don’t know anyone else who has even seen this gem. Caught it once 30 years ago. Never forgotten it. The thills, the spills, the stupidity, the cockiness, the danger and the friendships of youth. And then it’s gone. Best closing scene I’ve seen.

I got a little more choked up about this tribute than I thought I would. My dad and I would watch this often and even "dig up Dom" from whatever cold river we'd hide a bottle of cheap champagne in on camping trips. Now he's passed on and I'm still reminded of him through this film. Man this movie still hits at all sides sometimes eh?

Isn't it wild that a film can do this to you and you're on KZbin commenting on a comment left by someone else a year ago? In fact, when the subject comes up, and I"m asked what my favorite film is, I go right to this one, along with "The Summer of '42". These two films get me right where I live; in my soul. I teach University eighteen-year olds and they'd never get it; not right now. They haven't lived it yet. But "here's to us, by God. To us, and that, and privileges of youth. My first introduction to this movie was in the spring of '98. I was 24, recently broken up from a two year relationship with a girlfriend, and had made two tandem jumps at my local dropzone the summer before. I saved up as much money as I could muster all winter. I had decided on taking a 700 mile roadtrip by myself (this was my first roadtrip alone) to spend two weeks at Z-Hills (Skydive City) in Florida for my skydive training. I passed my AFF (Advanced Freefall) course in 4 days. Afterwards, at the dz bar, the instructors put on the skydiving scene from Fandango and told me that's how they wish they could teach it. I went on to skydive for another 12 years and 750+ jumps. That trip was the best two weeks of my life.

Sounds like me only I caught the movie in the mid-80's when HBO was brand spankin' new. I was almost 24, saved up a good bit of money from a piece o' crap job, packed my gear and got a cab to the airport right after my mom left for work. I backpacked around Paris, and ended up living two years in London working at The Royal Court Theatre as an usher. One day, I went in to work and somebody in the sound booth was playing, "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting". I danced like the last Groover through every aisle of that theatre! I never felt so free and connected to the earth and the cosmos. I saw that movie, looked in a mirror at myself and said, "Somebody's in there. Let's go find her."

Discovered this movie at Blockbuster. Looked at the jacket, saw Kevin Coster, Judd Nelson, Steven Spielberg, and rented it. It was the year after I graduated university. It grabbed me from the first scene and held me until the end like few movies have done since. I think university is the first time that, if you're lucky, you not only find a great network of friends, but you appreciate what you have. This movie meant so much because I was them - I was dreading the inevitable. Thanks for this.

I tried to have it played at my wedding too but the DJ just couldn't wrap his head around it, and I was trying not to make a big stink but I really wanted it played. And I've been looking for a copy of DVD for years because I also have my original VHS copy from HBO. Now that I know it exists, I've GOT to it on DVD just 'cause I think everybody needs to see this film at least once. In fact, if I show it to someone and they DON'T get it, I'll be inclined to think something's wrong with them. I would see them very differently.

Was always moved by the ending of this great movie. Both Gardner (Kevin Costner) and Dorman (Chuck Bush) know that this is it. Very sad and powerful.

@@lefkytheshin Very well said, lefkytheshin and thanks for the reply. Upon re-reading my own comment, I just realized that it wasn't Gardner, but rather Phil Hicks (Judd Nelson). It's even one of the lines of dialogue, "Gardner never said goodbye." Perfect ending to a perfect movie. Cheers.
