That's not depression then. Depression isn't conditional. People misuse the word too much. Depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain. You aren't motivated, can't focus, have no energy, etc. Stop confusing it with sadness. Someone who's depressed can't just snap out of it and it doesn't matter if everything is going good for them they'll still feel this way. A psychiatrist can diagnose it and prescribe meds to fix the chemical imbalance. Everyone has ups and downs, not the same as being depressed. What you described is just LIFE. I have bipolar Depression.

Yes finding the right prescription might take much longer than expected, yes it might take a few sessions with different therapists before you find your fit but you have to STAY COMMITTED. You have to advocate for yourself it is work, give your self a chance and stick with it. Sometimes you’ll find out that you didn’t even require medication you just needed counseling, for some meditation and more holistic treatments help. I cannot speak for those that have been in the fight for years with no avail🙏🏽 my statement is more for those who have yet to seek help.

Children are assumed to not have the emotional capabilities of adults just because "they're kids". Which means their problems usually get brushed off. In reality, even though their frame of mind is different, their pain should never be minimized. Lean into empathy, compassion, and creating a safe space for friends and family. If you can't personally help someone, suggest therapy (sometimes it's free, income-based or insurance may cover it)

I used to work at the Suicide Line & it’s not what Phelps think it is. They don’t play sad & depressing music or advertise it that way, because they don’t wanna trigger nobody. Now during certain holidays or major event, sometimes the wait is long for obvious reasons *BUT* most of the time, they’re available & even have a text/chat online option now (I think). Like Mona said, some people don’t have a support system so it helps to be able to call, speak to a neutral/supportive person (ideally), & get resources.

he literally kept repeating the same thing over and over then basically said to not speak on depression on commercials/tv period…..clearly he was lost

Good episode. A little sad with the suicide talk BUT it's def needed AND it added a diff aspect to the show. The ending lifted it back up. Prayers to those suffering with mental issues. 🙏🏾❤

Man I really felt what Mona was saying about her family and depression. I STRUGGLE with it for years and years but so does my mother and apparently its genetic cause her father's sister struggled with mental health issues as well. I talk to a therapist weekly. My mother on the other hand doesn't believe in getting help and is slowly losing her mind. It's a sad reality for many of us. Do what you have to do to live a productive and happy life. Trauma and ptsd are real but if you don't try something to heal you'll wind up engulfed with pain.

@dcmwg, you’re getting very good at this. I like the discussions with the team. I feel like everyone gets depressed at some point and it is recoverable, I think people either ignore or neglect their own sustainabilities which leads them into depression. This is why you have functioning depressed people who do amazing in managing their sustainability. They know their breaking point and don’t mess with it and apply their recovery methods when they reach breaking points. Glad this is being talked about

phelps is a prime example of (if u haven't experienced something u will only know so much about the topic). cause the commercials & sh*t have nothing to do w/being suicidal. i dealt with it my whole life & it didnt stem from being exposed to those commercials. i'm glad that u got to explain it to not only him but anybody else that is unaware.
