Nice work Dan!! I still rewatch your 25 part series on the Santa Fe SD40-2!!! I have been slowly adding air tanks and and filters to the Chassis of 8 SD40-2s and I finally got the Cannon Brass walkways in for all 8. I forgot the Cab vents and got some of them on E-bay so now the big thing left is to solder the wires to the brass rivets on the trucks and replace the sintered wheelsets with nickel silver wheels!!! Didn't you go with the 40 inchers on the Blue Box Athearn???

I don't remember if I used 40 or 42 inch wheels on the SD40-2 offhand. I want to say 42 because I think that's what I could get at the time. Either will work, and the difference in appearance is minimal since the sideframes block the view of the wheels to a large degree anyway. The coupler height might need to be tweaked depending on which one you use. For me the main advantage is the superior electrical performance of the replacement wheels, which is especially important with sound equipped models. Thanks for watching!

@@DanielCortopassi Thanks Dan!!! I'm just glad I don't half to replace the noses on mine like you had to do on the Santa Fe units you built!! The only thing Conrail added was the Cab signal boxes! 😀😀😀😀

I finally got around to disassembling my D&RGW Blue Box SD40T-2. I’m going to probably rewatch all these episodes a few times and come up with a plan of action for detailing, weathering, giving the motor some TLC, and converting it to DCC. It’s going to be a long term project since this is my first attempt at this. I’m looking forward to it, though!

I might get myself an Athearn RTR NS AC44C6M and detail it

Sounds cool. The techniques I'm using can be applied to most diesels. I've done some Blue Box SD40-2s that came out really nice, I think. Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!

There are also short shank Kadee 153 whisker couplers is those fit your needs where the couplers stick out too much. Thanks for this again, great series
@DanielCortopassi4 жыл бұрын
I've used those in some situations. In this case it's mostly the appearance of the pilot that I was trying to improve. Good suggestion and thanks for watching!

I how you do your build. You don’t make it to overwhelming for people so even myself feel Confident enough to try to do the same

Thanks. I strive to make sure I cover all the steps so that other people can do the same kinds of things. I'm glad you like the video. Thanks for watching!

More frequent AND easier on you? Aces! I know a lot of folks would skip on the risky alteration you did to the already detailed pilot (and if the item in question isn't really noticeable, that may be wise..) but it's funny how if one knows it's wrong, and can see it, how that thing can grow to bother/'bug' you..

Stuff definitely bugs me. 6283's pilot is still not quite up to the way I'd do it now, but there was a limit to how much I wanted to rework the model, for what would be a very tiny difference in appearance. The Conrail / PC style uncoupling levers were a pain to make and I really didn't want to destroy them. Anyway, I actually worked ahead on this build so I have another episode or two's worth of footage already shot. That will make it easier to put out the next one. Thanks for watching!

I have some buildings for my layout, and painted the insides of their facades black so that light doesn’t bleed through. You could do the same when making buildings for your layout.
@RonMontagueSWRR4 жыл бұрын
Thats the mistake I already make. Sometimes it hard to paint the inside once you're done.
@DanielCortopassi4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will work on buildings, too. It's especially important if the building exterior is left unpainted plastic. Thanks for watching!

Hey Dan, you should check out Aaron Hiene Electronis for his “RB1” beacon. I use them on all prime stratolite da as they mimic the faux flashing these produced. Very well done product. It would work well for the Cotton Belt unit
@DanielCortopassi4 жыл бұрын
I have one of those that I picked up at a Bay Area Prototype Modelers meet a few years ago. I've had it in mind to use it on a different Cotton Belt locomotive that I'm building. If I like the effect I may get more. Thanks for the suggestion!
