So refreshing to see a project like this. It’s this type of modeling video series that sets you apart from others.

As a lifelong SP fan (and modeler), seeing this type of project is really fun to watch. I used to travel to N CA every week for work, and watching the different motive power moving along the peninsula was always fascinating, notably in South S.F. and in San Jose. I only wish I'd taken more photos back then. One thing that would be interesting would be to know the lifespan and EOL of these units - were they sold, scrapped, or ???

I'm glad you caught that light cover Dan, that would have bugged you if you found out after the build was done!! I'm loving the Conrail engine build too as you know I have been bugging you on it's progress. I think the fans will look good after you weather them so you won't notice the difference in paint!! Thanks Dan and go Big Blue!!!😁😁😁

I was going to say when my local hobby shop sold out the Floquil I ended up with 3 bottles of Conrail blue, 2 bottles of Oxide red for freight cars and 1 bottle of Pullman green. I didn't know you could mix Windex with it to thin it! I always use the big bottle of Floquil thinner I bought years ago. Thanks for the tip on that Dan.
@DanielCortopassi2 жыл бұрын
Catching up on comments... I use Windex only for water based paints like Polly Scale. Floquil is a solvent based paint and needs to be thinned with Floquil thinner. You could also maybe use lacquer thinner, but Windex would probably just make a mess. Good luck with your painting and thanks for watching!

You need to backdate to the caboose era; now that is classic SP! Lot's of great freight options like Wheels of Time bulkhead flat cars (two types), IMRC SPFE and PFE reefers, Red Caboose PFE and SPFE reefers, Genesis and Centralia Shops bay window cabooses. Oh and Moloco just came out with those 70's repaint RBL PC&F boxcars in SP and Cotton Belt. It's a great time to be a late 70's and early 80's SP modeler!

One good thing about my plan to model Donner Pass, is that the look of the area didn't change much during the 1970s-1990s period (and even now isn't that different). So backdating would be mostly a matter of running different equipment, and maybe swapping some vehicles. I have a few "out of era" trains that I think I will be able to fairly convincingly photograph. I have quite a few cabooses! Thanks for watching!

Great video. I love your organization of parts etc. Probably a stupid thought but you have the storage box tops labelled are the bottoms labelled as well so the tops don't get on the wrong bottoms ? Hope you and the Mrs had a good Christmas. Happy New Year !!!

Hey Dan, I was watching the video and had a question related to the hood kitbashing in this video. How do you remove the molded on hood doors on the model? Do you buff them down with a dremel or cut them out completely? I’m working with a Kato shell and I want to replace the hood doors with Canon ones.
@DanielCortopassi2 жыл бұрын
I think it would be difficult to sand the doors down without damaging other details. I would probably cut them out, though if you're doing all the doors that would be quite a job. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching!

Hey Dan. I'm loving your building project series on the 5 engines in that SP consist. If it hasn't been done yet, when will part 6 and others be put up on the channel? if they have been put up is there a trick to finding them? I haven't been able to see anything of this series beyond part 5. Thanks and keep up the excellence.

Hello Dan, nice video. I've been wondering when you was going to pick up with this project. It has been a good while since I seen the last one. I've often wondered about those rivet decals. Will they show through after being painted? As always, keep up the good work and I look forward to the next installment.
@DanielCortopassi2 жыл бұрын
Catching up on comments... I'm glad you're enjoying the series. Rivet decals will show up through the paint and look like they're just part of the model. I've used them on a few projects and really like them. Thanks for watching!

What did the R stand for in sd45R?
@DanielCortopassi4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it means "rebuild". SP rebuilt many of its locomotives over the years, usually giving them an "E" or an "R" suffix (GP9E, SD7R, GP35R, etc.). By the 1990s the non-rebuilt SD45s were pretty much off the roster, but the SD45Rs lasted through the end of the railroad. Thanks for watching!

Alright thanks for the information. Im exited for part six!

The models in this series could be called kitbashed or modified using mostly commercially available detail parts. I didn't create the models from raw materials. That's a little more work than I care to attempt! Thanks for watching!
