I have a Charge 5 on one wrist & a Garmin Venu 2 on the other. I do this because Garmin sleep tracking has always been a dumpster fire for me. This still is the case with regards to the buckets (light, rem, deep, awake) but what has changed is the sleep score. The 2 trackers now align much better. If this trend continues, I'll stop wearing the Charge 5. Now that I'm aware of the differences, the total score is more useable day to day and the Garmin seems to be doing an adequate job in that regard.

Check out this review; the accuracy of Garmin does not seem to be in the same ballpark of the Fitbit devices when compared to an EEG device: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqivkKd3bqqrqsk Heart rate accuracy is also only so-so unfortunately. I do like the way Garmin presents the data and gives access to all of it. The subscription model of Fitbit is far less attractive. There are some other good alternatives on the market, the linked channel has reviews for many. One caveat though is that he's tested most devices only on himself and only for a limited amount of time (ie small sample size).

What ever happened to the Vivosport model that was Garmin's only band had built in GPS? Are they not bothering to update it to force users into a more expensive watch model??

THIS! It is my greatest complaint to Garmin. In fact, the biggest problem of the Vivosport was the trash rubber band, now fixed in the Vivosmart 5. So a Vivosport with the new band would beat them both hands down. The transreflective display is so underrated, the more the sunlight the better the visibility, always-on display and 7 day straight of battery, still to this day after 3 years of usage. Come on Garmin! Anyway I guess you're definetely right, as an updated Vivosport would be so damn good to compete vs their own smartwatches which cost much more.

This Fitbit should have been compared against the vivosmart hr plus and/or vivosport from years ago. They both had onboard GPS, barometric altimeter, and hr monitoring in a band form factor. The plus let you change to 3rd party bands unlike the vivosport, but the plus was pretty chunky for a band. For the basic user that wants a band to wear during activities only or all day for recording only but prefer to use the app for looking at their detailed info instead of a full blown smartwatch with a large screen and tons of features both of these garmin bands were great. I feel like garmin tested features on those bands then removed them to force consumers to upgrade to a higher end model when they needed a replacement. They were the only ones with a band with an onboard GPS for awhile then they removed it from the vivo- band options and now Fitbit has it and Garmins band seems extremely lackluster. SMH.

I've had issues with my Fitbit Charge 5 from day 1. First, it kept falling off the OEM band. (known issue with this watch) I almost lost it a few times. I had to fight with customer service to get them to, at least, send a new band. It seemed better but I can't switch to any more fashionable bands because they fall off. I don't like some of the functionality of it. It's hard to restart, it doesn't have the side buttons to take you back to the home screen. You have to swipe through all of the previous screens. Exercises sometimes just randomly stop detecting during a workout. After the last update my battery started to drain very quickly (known issue with this watch. Google it before buying). It would die within a few hours. Eventually, it wouldn't take a charge anymore. It's a year and a half old and Fitbit won't send a replacement. They offered me a 35% discount on a new one. I've seen users post that their brand new charge 5 batteries drain. There's no way I'm purchasing another one of these. Taking into account that the premium features cost $9.99 month, if you want all of the features, this watch is much more expensive than it's $120-$150 advertised price. Thanks for the review. 5:25 Garmin super accurate with sleep stages?!! When they made the miracle?! Every Garmin I've had was a total crap with sleeping, did they fixed it?! Cuz that's gonna be bomb, and I'm getting it if that's true

I have the fitbit charge 5 and the vivosmart 5 and when I wear them both for a few days what I've noticed is, the steps are inaccurate with the vivosmart 5, it's always 100-200 steps off from what my charge 5 says, and when I sleep, the charge 5 catches when I micro wake up, the vivosmart 5 does not...
@cristobalbalenciaga72952 жыл бұрын
So how do you know that the charge 5 has the correct number? Maybe it’s overcounting. What do you use as the standard?

My bank accounts are with very big banks, and the Fitbit does not support them for payments.

Fitbit every time for me. Try losing the Garmin unit when it pops out of the strap unnoticed and see how Garmin respond. Avoid Garmin. Truly awful after sales service.

I don't get why anyone would buy either of these when the Venu SQ is $149 and the Fitbit Versa 2 is $119.
@kevinknotts63372 жыл бұрын
I currently use the Charge 3 and considered upgrading to the Charge 5 but found that the Charge 5 doesn’t count stairs like all the Charge models before it. I ended up getting the recently discounted Versa 2 instead. Doesn’t have GPS but I never had it so I can continue to go without that.

Fitbit won't work with older Android phones after the forced transition from Fitbit to Google accounts in 2025. The transition requires the latest Fitbit app, which in turn seems to require Android 10.

Fitbit Charge 5 is garbage. I have used it for over a year and the screen got blanked out. When I called customer care they said that I need to buy a new one.

Based on kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKCxeKOHj8aerrc I thought the Charge 5 sleep tracking was decent, what devices do you prefer?
@Dcrainmaker2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think any of them do a good job of sleep phase detection, largely because most sleep phase detection is at best 80% accurate (and this isn’t that good). We’d never accept that level of inaccuracy in any other metric like heart rate. As for awake/asleep times, both seem to be fairly good there.

I dont support greedy companies. Why would you charge $10/month just to keep server going? $1 would be enough.
@PR4SAN2 жыл бұрын
That’s a big claim that sleep isn’t accurate? Do you have any scientific data to compare with like eeg monitoring or scientific sleep study??
@Dcrainmaker2 жыл бұрын
I have a decade of actually doing this as a job, combined with plenty of studies (you can pick any) that show it isn’t. Even the best sleep specific medical devices on the market only claim 80% accuracy.

Garmin's sleep tracking is trash. Fitbit leads the entire fitness watch/band industry in sleep tracking. These two trackers are day & night when it comes to sleep tracking with Fitbit taking the crown.
