Not only have the links been blocked from bios and descriptions but it appears descriptions in the app have a limited character/line number too. I suppose all that text has a high byte count which the server can't deal with. Better add some more photos then... 🤷

Thanks for the timely review of Strava’s changes to the handling of our data. One likely reason that is prompting Strava to enact those absurd policies has to do with the “data mining” that is pervading just about every segment of industry to get aboard the Artificial Intelligence train, including Strava (see Strava’s push for users to use Strava’s “Athlete Intelligence”feature to analyze our performance). Absolute Bull. There is no altruistic effort on the part of Strava to protect us the users from getting our data used and abused by others (through their apps linked to Strava). The only entity Strava wants to protect is itself as they want to be the only one benefitting from harvesting and ripping off our data to train their Strava’s AI bots and thus hope to stay ahead by selling our AI generated analytics (real or hallucinatory) to interested clients for all the data is worth. We the Strava users are just the data-collecting pig farm.

Nice to see that you did your testing on Gran Canaria - next door, so to speak, to where I am now (Tenerife, north end). Good thing that you did NOT include the Magene C506 bike computer in your testing: It would not have worked, as the company has NOT included maps for the Canary Islands in the map for Spain - or anywhere else! I got an email from them, confirming exactly that. There went my plan to use it for navigation. Damn.

Wow, as just a mediocre sportive rider who doesn't have a coach and doesn't race, and started using Strava just because everyone else uses it and it's like the Facebook of the cycling/running, this doesn't affect me very much but this is still a really sh*tty move by them and I'm now glad I've never used their paid service and now I never will - so yup, great business decision Strava.

If they release a v2 which allows the front to be kickr climb compatible, I'm in. Without it... not so much. Other nice improvements would be the paw style crank but I can work just fine with 170mm. A somewhat quieter chain tensioner would be nice. That plastic thing seems to create some ressonance.

I don't think the AI restriction is quite what you say. It says fairly clearly to me, that it cannot "use the Strava API Materials ... for any *model training* related to ...", so it isn't any anything related to AI or machine learning, it's specifically model training, which I think is not unreasonable to restrict. In theory, simply using an existing AI model to analyze the data should be fine. It really is the third term which is insane....it prohibits literally everything. It's a crazy idiotic lawyer written restriction.

It’s like 200 now cause it’s not brand new, if anyone is still here can they tell me if this is still worth it cause I can’t afford a brand new model

Just a thought. I personally think they are leaving the door wide open for another industry player to take another shot at stealing their market share. I know about 10k athletes. I only know one who recorded directly into Strava. For me, and maybe 9k others, Strava is a social media company. Apparently Strava wants to test and see how much value that really has to people ...

We need a blue sky of Strava open data social media platform. This just created a huge opportunity for other companies to jump in. Such a fail. I can only say Strava has momentum and it part of peoples lives which makes it sticky, but believe me there is now a huge opportunity.

I agree it's dumb and the wrong model if they want to be the peloton leader. However, it won't affect me. I push my workouts to Strava (and other apps) from HealthFit. For me Strava is one of the many destinations, not the distributor, of my information.

The idea of paying for my information is ludicrous. So I don't use it. They are now just stopping the flow of your information that you said was ok. Maybe Garmin can figure out how to upload directly to others sites directly and skip Strava. People might buy more Garmin products

This makes me wish Endomondo was still a thing. I was using that back in 2010 until they sold to underarmor. It's crazy how many things were better in tech 10-15 years ago. I remember paying $1.99 for a game on my phone and be entertained for weeks or months without paying another penny. Now I don't even bother with mobile games at all.

Honestly, I never heard of any of these 3rd parties, I must not be that much of a fitness nerd, I’m just an avid runner, skier, mountain biker with a 5 year daily Strava streak. That said, this is terrible for the users, market, and 3rd parties… I can’t imaging the pain of seeing your hard built business going poof with Strava whims!
@КирилАнастасов7 сағат бұрын
Strava only disallows data downloads, not uploads. So Garmin Connect will continue to upload the data, and many people will be OK with that. What will stop working is third-party apps downloading data. This can be a good thing because Strava cannot control what these apps download, and to do so is a considerable investment. It is ok for such third-party apps to download the training data of some person who authorized this app to do so, but most probably, these apps need way more real data to train their models, so they download random users' data. I'm not okay with uploading my data to Strava to train AI.

Strava elevation is a load of crap. Have you ever looked at the elevation on your Garmin, Wahoo or whatever before you uploaded it to Strava? Take a look. I use a Wahoo Elmnt and the elevation can be more than 50% different. I have done relatively flat rides sometimes and Wahoo gives me a realistic elevation. Strava is way out.

Someone in Calgary made a webpage where you could track how many of the over a thousand km of bike pathway you've covered. It would even show on a map which ones you haven't been on yet. This was something free that someone did in their free time, it's one of the reasons I got a Strava subscription. If that data isn't shareable anymore then Strava isn't better than any other app. I'll cancel my subscription if that's the case
