I used to watch this video when you first released it, before I knew anything about the fundamentals of landing. It's amazing looking at this video how far dcs has come. I still refer to your video for nostalgia. Thanks for keeping it alive!

One thing I learned years ago about the "pipper" in the center of the HUD is that it indicates your flight path. I was told that once you have the pipper centered on a point on the runway, you're flying that particular path to that point on the runway. A lot of Viper pilots use the pipper to establish their glide path, which helps maintaining their touchdown point, and jockeying the throttle for adjustments. Great vid though! :)

I missed all the beta fun and am just now getting to the retail version. DCS makes some serious sims and your tutorial vids are outstanding.....very well done!

@636Castle Good point. The reason you're seeing what you do here is because the manual recommends against going under 120kts approach speed. I had it loaded really light for this, with all ammo+stores removed and under 100% fuel. A fun thing to do is to load it light, run through the pattern, then load it heavy and check out the difference. The game is pretty good at making it feel sluggish when loaded heavy.

I personally find it easier to pitch for the glidepath/glide slope/rate of descent and then adjust the thust to maintain speed, since this will give you quicker results. Great videos EH!

@Jixxer87 The flare is when you gently pitch up (although maybe a little less gently in this vid, heh) before touchdown.

great video! Nice flying. I can't wait to dive into this game. Been flying Microsoft flight sim since it's early days so it looks like a lot of that knowledge will spill over onto DCS.

@Bahger Flaps: yes (bottom left of the front console near where the gear handle is), speedbrake: not that I'm aware.
@opmike34312 жыл бұрын
This depends. ATC will often vector you towards the airport, and you report when you have runway in sight.

Hey , for trimming, what input control are you using for it? I've run out of buttons and hats , so I'm using the X52 toggle switch. Just curious as to what setup you have for applying trim..thanks man.

Since I got confused by this: 30,000 lbs is approx 13,600 kg (so add 2 KIAS per 450 kg more) if your Mission Editor is displaying your plane's total weight in kg instead of lbs. So around 133 KIAS landing speed for a 100% fuel, 100% guns, empty loadout A-10C.

Really clear and concise video ExcessiveHeadspace. I look forward to one of these for the DCS F/A-18C.

Very good tutorial. Are there are cockpit indications for degree of flap and speedbrake deployment?
@Jixxer8714 жыл бұрын
Good tutorial, little confused what the "flare" is.. Is there a way to check wind direction inside the cockpit, or you have to contact the tower? Keep it up, Dcs should hire you.

@JonisKanonis Yes I hear you. It feels counter intuitive using thrust for altitude and pitch for speed. Although every tutorial i've played/read from a legion of different planes all use this rule. So there must be a good reason for it :p I was so freaking happy the first time I landed a P-47 on a moving carrier in IL21946. From that day on I really started understanding whwat a glideslope was. (Not to mention to bind you CHOCKS to something to get even OFF the freaking carrier :p)

The AoA indexer calculates the optimum AoA for a given mass of the jet. i.e. It will display the correct AoA for any weight. whether the jet is 50,000 lbs or 10lbs a different landing AoA will be calculated. If it's in the green, this is the correct AoA no matter what the weight.

I'm having the most trouble lining up with the runway while turning from base to final. I almost always overshoot and undershoot and then find myself having to line up with the runway while trying to intercept the glide slope. Any tips for that?

when you go in for a landing the ATC doesn't tell you to turn towards the airport. You have to make the turn and then align.

i was doing training and was told to fly to a heading i did and i was like stupidly far from the airport and still not told to turn for landing

I got my first successful landing today! successful as in I didint start the Master Caution. i skidded off the runway as i was going too fast and a humvee had shot me so it was a little harder.

If the landing gear is broken ,can it be deployed.I looked on NG how they made a380 and they tested if there is hydrolic failure ,can the landing gear deploy from its own weight. SO yeha can the a-10 do that

I can see the US Airforce using this as a training simulator in the future (On the lowest graphics of course since they're too cheap to invest in anything too awesome) and them hiring you as a instructor. Maybe? High payroll maybe? Eh, eh?
