Hi - Great tutorial. I have been using the replay option of our group flights to make my videos. I select F11 and can position my "camera" anywhere I wish. The scroll wheel by default was my zoom control and mouse movement was my Steering control. Lately replay of my flights does not let me use the mouse for moving or zooming and I do not know what I did to break this. For some unknown reason I cannot make the scrolling work with the mouse. it was once working fine in the replay/F11 view but has since stopped working. any thoughts as to how I can fix this problem?

That ability was removed at some point in DCS 2.7.

What key did you press to return to the plane in 27:54? Can you advise on a free camera (ctrl+f11), is it possible to focus (or lock) it on the plane? I have trackIR but for example, when i click on (Numpad .), it stops moving, but focus on plane (it work only at the ground and i take view like airshow); and when i press (ctrl+f3), it also makes 1 flyby and stays behind.

@@MyEnderChannelNo. Ctrl+f11 does not actually work for me, because even when the camera is "overclocked" through the mouse wheel, the camera simply cannot focus on the object and flies past the target

I highly encourage everyone to go and try more realistic field of view (around 60 degrees for average setups). Also, the camera jittering effect in DCS may screw up your recording quality. You can cycle it using a hotkey in-game.

Great vid and thanks for making this! I see you are able to move your speed when paused. How are you able to do that or is with Active pause? When I pause the game and go free cam, I can increase or decrease the speed of the camera. I’m using the open beta version.

I have a question, can one person control multiple aircraft in DCS? That is, after the playback of the first aircraft, record the code of the aircraft path, fly the second aircraft, and then replay it. Follow this procedure to compose the path codes of several aircraft together, and then one person can control multiple aircraft. Way, such a complicated formation maneuver can be done without multiplayer online, so does DCS have a similar method?

What is the option or the keybind, to follow the jet? I try to keep on manually with mouse, but shake as hell, but you just press a button and that`s it, you can kee lock on the plane so you can film it perfectly

Hi, i know this old, however, i just came accross this, so I changed the Lua file, and followed your instructions however I still cannot get the camera to actually go any lower than the defualt level. in both F2 view as well as F4 view to get some really dynamic shots that I want, especially off an aircraft carrier. Did I make a mistake or something along the line?

Two possibilities: One, the lua edit won't change views on replay tracks you saved before making the lua edit. Two, some mission files have the setting inside them. Open the .miz file with Winrar, and if you see a Config folder, then the view setting is in there. Edit that lua file, save changes, and exit WInrar.

This is Aug 2021 and I'm unable to change speeds in Ctrl+F11 while paused, it stays at zero and that's a big problem @eagledynamics

Can you use an Xbox controller and set its axis to the camera controls? It should give a smoother camera movement than trackIR... have you tried that?

I cant find a way to pause the movement of the free camera when matching the speed of the aircraft. With active pause on, the aircraft is stationary but my free camera is moving. Is there another pause mode that keeps both the aircraft and the free camera frozen?

Depends on the aircraft and what's going on in the mission. Fewer AI, scripts, or triggers the better. Some aircraft are so broken I have to use multiplayer server tracks at the cost of wheels clipping through the ground and weapon position desync.

Is there any "secret sauce" for external views in replays? I ask because I am frequently unable to use external views on replays even though the settings say I should be able to do so. Sometimes it will just start magically working on a replay file that didn't work the first few times I tried it.

Sounds like you have some multiplayer tracks where the external views were disabled in the mission. Try going into the Mission Editor, open the .trk file, then edit the view options and save (as .trk, not as .miz). That should unlock the external views.

If it doesn’t work in all situations then something is up with your hardware or the mission settings. If it’s only in one specific scenario then it’s probably a multiplayer track limitation (F4 view).

Vr ver2 I run a second instance all the time, but for MP hosting to get workable replay tracks. That said, I run the second instance on the lowest settings and on F10 map view only.

Could be either a multiplayer track, or a track recorded before you made the edit. Some lua file edits only work on tracks saved after the lua edit was made.

Try editing the value in your main DCS server.lua file and see if that works. If it does, then something might be up with your server.lua file in Saved Games. Occasionally I've had the Saved Games server.lua file fail to override the main DCS file. If that's the case it's usually fixed by deleting the one in Saved Games and replacing it with a fresh copy of the lua file.

DCS is truly awesome & in vr is spectacular, but the track file issue is a major problem for most people that enjoy the game or want to share it with other people & record the awesome dog fight air to air refueling & carrier landings & missions that they do with friends. It's a real shame the devs have never addressed this by either fixing it or making a replay function & I've heard it all before oh you're not a true enthusiast & a hole load of other bullshit But at the end of the day the price of the planes is ridiculous even when on sale for an older game that's not even a AAA title that doesn't have a working replay or track file editor that works & no one want's to pay $4500 for all the planes & especially if it doesn't have a replay or track record that doesn't work even though all the "enthusiast" will say that's not what the track file is for even though it has a folder for those track files after they are edited called movie folder the one function you wish the game had working doesn't even work really let's this game down & as soon as someone makes another sim on the same level that's cheaper with a working replay DCS will be left in the dust...................
