Thanks so much for this. Some of the other videos are so complex I struggle to follow them with my basic knowledge. I've been practicing night time, rainy landings all afternoon and can't quite believe it as I never thought I'd get to enjoy night flying. I've had a little issue though on the last flight that has really confused me. Everything is set up properly. I'm using the same airbase as this video and enter everything properly. On final approach though, my distance was growing rather than closing in even though the glide scope and interceptor lines guided me in. When I landed it said I was over 17nM away. The glideslope line did seem to settle at the far end of the runway also. I was definitely on the correct runway for the heading so I'm not sure what's happened. The needles on the tacan/ILS instrument down at the bottom were lined up properly but the blue arrow pointed the opposite direction. The only thing I can think I did wrong was setting this all up before I took off. Could this cause an issue? I'd be ever so grateful if anyone know what I did wrong!!

Tricker... Perhaps one of the best vids I've seen to date, but there is a small but important item you missed on your HUD Symbology: The little ball that was bouncing around your Flight Path Marker/Velocity Vector. That's the ILS Command Steering Cue. Very usefull thing while in deep IMC and bad weather...
@TrickerDCS3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment! I was actually going to cover this but sometimes the symbology didn't go with what needed to happen, as in I would be on the glideslope and localizer and it would drift away, so I didn't wanna give conflicting information; which is why I left that part out until it's further in development. I truly appreciate the comment and feedback!
@mvaldman20013 жыл бұрын
@@TrickerDCS Correct, that is why lateral command steering cues are ignored until established on the localizer, and vertical cues until intercepting the glide-slope. This gets very helpful in turbulence and cross-wind approaches; on cross-wind approaches, by the way, you also cage the HUD ladder until “runway in sight” using the Drift cutout switch as your FPM could drift out of the HUD visual area... but that’s just for another video one day! I thank you for responding; love your videos and appreciate the dedication and hard work making them as well as the detail and fines you put into them! Thank you!

Hi, thanks for this really good video on overhead break to landing in F16. The first jet I played with in DCS was the F/A-18 and now I’m getting to grips with the F16. That, and watching some other videos on landing the F16 leaves me a little confused regarding the use (or not) of the trim control on the F16. I (mis)understood that the trim control on the F16 had two modes; with wheels up, trim commands ‘G’ and with wheels down trim adjusts pitch to assist with speed on AoA? Could you clarify for me, us, the use, or otherwise, of the trim control on the F16; when it should be used, when it shoulkd not be used? Is it the case that our DCS HOTAS sticks, invariably fitted with strongish centering springs, makes our sticks in DCS somewhat different than a real stick in a real F16?
Great video mate, too bad I'll never get the chance to land after a sortie.

when plotting in the course heading, does the f-16 need to be concerned about magnetic declination or can you just put in the proper course from the airport information page. So in this case, the airport information page showed a coarse of 209, but would that change with the magnetic declination to something like 197 (I think the Vegas area is a -12 degree offset?)? or does that 209 take into account the declination already?

I don't fly complex, but I think you might also want to extend your gear by then too. And go-around is a term used for VFR traffic, IFR goes "missed". I would have also talked a bit more about your decision height/altitude, how to know when you need to go missed
