In my opinion you’re the best for tutorials man I appreciate all the help

Great Video. Very clear, very helpful. I usually turn the back-up radio on prior to startup so I could contact ATC and request for startup. I also turn on the anti-collision beacon before startup, to warn the non-existent ground crew :)

Time to pick up homework...from scratch. Thank goodness we have the Deephack DCS tutorial series. Thank you so much for all your efforts and hard work!

hmm.. so a simple flight stick still needed, this content, and I think I will get into DCS with the help of your videos on how to fly my old fave the F-16 :) yay!

Depending on how you want to do it there are many ways of getting set up for DCS. I'm a big fan of reproducing the stick and throttle setup of real aircraft as best I can. I have however seen people play with XBox controllers very effectively so there are many ways. The tough part though is often view manipulation. Head tracking or VR is much better here.

@@deephack I think I'll get the X52 pro, and go from there. Looks like good entry level for me. VR is somewhere in the future ;)

Pro tip on the startup. Move the throttle to idle, after the SEC light goes off on the Caution Light Panel. Second row, second column.

Excellent run through. It would be nice to know (as opposed to guess) which of the procedures we can ignore if we don’t expect simulated failures. I assume a couple of the early tests matter IRL but not in most DCS sessions where there are no simulated system failures. Anyway, cheers. I’ve watched a lot of videos and this is one of the clearer ones.
@deephack3 жыл бұрын
Failures are simulated but they have to be set in the mission editor so you can skip all tests normally.

Great vid tutorial, I've had this A/C for almost a year and never did a startup. How can we d/l this video so I can refresh my brain from time to time; a great addition to my collection. Looking forward to more tutorials from you on this plane. Thanks

There are a bunch of KZbin downloader apps out there. Of course I can't link them for you as they are against KZbin agreements.

@@deephack ..appreciate your response, I'm curious why some YT vids have a download option without using a 3rd party...but I don't know sh#t about YT policies or how/why that is available. In any case, keep up the good work. I appreciate a tutorial that isn't some long winded, bumbling mess of mouse wagging and irrelevant crap; thanks so much. SUBSCRIBED!!

@@RattlerSSBN The YT "download" button merely saves a copy to your personal YT "Downloads" file. This is in case you're somewhere without wifi signal you can still watch your downloaded videos. I've never found the location of the saved videos, seems like you can access it only via the YT app/site itself.

I have no idea why I watched this. I've started the F16 at least 500 times. I just like your vids. My way is a lot dirtier than yours because I'm constantly scrambling in online pvp to go kill more people.

I don't feel like going deep into this, because you've obviosully put in a lot of effort and it would be a bit harsh to go full list mode on this. I will just say that you should be careful with what info you say. I know this tutorial isn't meant to be realistic to the real world procedure, but you're throwing in a lot of misinformation. Literally the first thing you said about how the F-16 works was wrong. Just try to keep the info spreading to a minimum, and only say the things that are totally necessary, this will reduce misinformation.

I'm always looking to improve the quality of my videos and the content within. I don't consider it harsh to receive corrections when I've said something incorrect. Feel free to correct me for my benefit and the benefit of people who watch these videos.

@@deephack Sure, for starters, the first thing you're going to do isn't establishing power to the aircraft. You will do the pre-flight check which has you go through all the switches in the cockpit and placing them in the correct position for startup. The F-16 has three sources of power, the "engine driven generators", aka main gen and standby gen, the battery (which only supplies power to the two battery buses.), and the EPU which has it's own generator. Noteworthy are the PMGs, of them we have the FLCS PMG which is connected to the accessory drive gearbox with the standby generator, and the EPU PMG, which works just like the EPU generator. The PMGs only supply power to the four FLCS branches. It is picky, but the lights on the power panel are just referred to as lights, they are not warning lights nor caution lights. The FLCS RLY light does not indicate that the battery is the only source of power. It indicates that one or more FLCC branch is disconnected. During the FLCS PWR test you seem somewhat clueless as to what you're actually testing, but I digress. Your description of the spider guard isn't 100%, it also pressures the canopy seal. You go straight to starting the engine without checking the warning and caution lights, and you fail to turn on the UHF backup control panel prior to start. You seem unaware of the difference between the two start positions and their associated uses. When starting the engine you will move the throttle to IDLE at 20% rpm or maximum monitoring rpm if the ambient temperature is above 32 C. During engine startup you fail to check correct warning and caution light behaviour, and you fail to check normal FTIT behaviour. With 60% RPM the standby generator comes online, not the main generator. The main generator comes online about 5-10 seconds later. It's a waist of time to uncage the standby attitude first thing. It should be done after starting INS alignment. You should have had external lights set prior to starting the engine. Additionally, why place the strobe to A? From here on and out your startup strays so far off procedure it's honestly no point in pointing out mistakes. The major problem is that you do some checks, but not all, and you have failed to perform the most essential checks. This is like checking that your smoke detectors work without checking that your fire extinguisher works. You need to do both, not just one. Either you do all the essential checks at startup, or you do non of them and accept that the startup will be unrealistic to real life.

Thanks for taking the time to type this up for me. There were indeed a few things here that I didn't know. I wasn't looking to create a by the checklist startup so was intentionally skipping things like cockpit preparation. Maybe someday I'll create a more accurate startup video, especially once more of the systems are correctly modelled in DCS.
@spacemonkey0373 жыл бұрын
@@deephack The startup can actually be done very realistically atm. Most of the required systems are modelled. It's a pain to learn the correct startup though, so I would honestly just advise you to avoid saying things that might be wrong. A true startup tutorial would take an hour at the minimum, and if you want actual explanations for systems you're going to use over 10 hours I'd imagine.
