Great as always. What surpused me most about the Walleye is its size and effect on the plane when you drop it. It feels like losing a wing. I like the delivery through a cloud base too, TBH it's kind of a useless weapon other than some special purposes.

Agreed. Hard to imagine it gained a stores acceptance/ clearance with the amount of asymmetric load it puts on the aircraft.

If you can do it right, this is the best standoff 2000 lb bomb you have in the inventory. They arent susceptible to GPS jamming (like thats modeled in DCS anyways), you can loft them, you can guide them all the way to the target, you can loft them over hills behind cover if you have a rough idea where you are at, and its BIG. Thats 2000lbs of freedom with wings.

When you use the designated target point, you should slew the walleye to the target point, then un-designate the target point, then push and hold the sensor select button to keep a ground track of the position, then drop it, and as long as you hold that sensor depress button, it will keep tracking the position of the target point, then as you get closer to the target, the picture will get clearer and clearer, then you should find and slew to the target, then release the sensor depress button to allow the walleye to get its own lock

This thing is pretty potent in conjunction with the sea radar--it will track a moving ship and can take the Kuznetsov 2017 down below 1% health, and all you need to finish it off is a burst of 20mm (or a Maverick). It'll two-shot a Moskva, and one-shot basically everything else that requires more than one Maverick-F, eg Rezky, Neustrashimy, Grisha!

I'm so glad that ED does not forget oldschool weapons. IMO, DCS better suits to early 90s rather than post 2000 era where everything is Electronic Warfare and boring GPS stuff anyway. Plane old school iron hand mission, a lot more fun.

I am trying to do the F-18 Mission Qual for the Walleye and I can not control the camera or uncage. I have tried everything that I have seen online. Please help.

Frankly, I don't see the Walleye getting much use in modern scenarios, especially when the SLAM and SLAM-ER come online That being said, the enormous things do have some modern potential for use as ship-killers that have been disabled by Harpoons, in lieu of GBU-10s I find that walleyes tend to be a weapon that is the focus of one's flight, so I alleviate the double ugly situation by mounting the DL pod on the centerline and using two wing tanks. This also facilitates harpoons for short-range missions

How did you record the mpcd in full screen? Are you exporting it with something like simvc then recording the export?

Have you had any difficulties getting the weapon to work "as advertised"? Whenever I sit down to try and get these things to work, it's always something. Standalone video feed doesn't come up, datalink fails to connect, datalink drops as soon as the bomb releases, that sort of thing?

I've not run into any unexplained issues, sounds like you might not be setting the dl up correctly.

@@RedKiteRender Tried to use it with some friends, I couldn't get a video feed at all from my bombs, datalink or not, while my wingmen were able to launch just fine. 2 hours beforehand I was able to bring the weapons online without issue. I'm going to hold off for a bit until it can be improved

If they ever upgrade this weapon to digital standards and with infrared, this would be the biggest and best standoff smart bomb in the inventory that you can control mid-flight. A2AD is a thing now, so sometimes old tech is the best tech in certain situations.

I think what you're looking for is the AGM-84 SLAM and SLAM-ER Cruise missiles with datalink and image transmission / in flight corrections just like a Walleye, but with much greater range. We'l see this added to the dcs hornet one day!

It is a bit sad to hear that the range of the Walleye is so terrible in DCS. I just recently watched a documentary on it (available on KZbin, it's called The Pursuit of Precision), and frankly the TV feed they showed from the real thing often looked better than DCS, and they were talking about hitting stuff from 10 miles and beyond. (EDIT: Note, to my understanding they were talking about using the Walleye's own locking and guidance, rather than flying it home manually.)

I can't get my bomb to slew, I did select the DDI and Uncage but it does nothing. Is the "slew switch" the same as I would use for my radar?

it's designed to be used standalone or with the Datalink, It pre-dates the targeting pod. If you've got the pod, a large laser or gps bomb is much more appropriate.

The Walleye with the TGP its very precise, easy to use and fun. You can drop them 10nm from target and you almost don't need to use the aww-13.
