Is there any way to keep the mavericks warmed up if you need to switch to another weapons system, like shrikes or bombs?

Nope, well, technically, if you switch to bombs then drop and back to TV within a couple seconds you can do it, but that's really intended to prevent accidentally switching it out of TV cooling a warmed up missile.

You could reduce your turn radius by pulling back on your power.

That... doesn't make sense. Airspeed will change the radius at expense of rate, but the engine power has no relevance in physics beyond sustainability. if anything more engine power actually increases control authority (extra air over the tail). If the game's making lower power = more turn rate that's a serious failing of aerodynamics. I'll have to test it, and chat with the dev on reality vs game mechanics on that topic if it's the case.

@@RedKiteRender Think of it this way. You’re driving in your car around a curve, you have to slow down from the speed you were doing on the straight of way. If you go too fast, the radius of your turn could be greater than the radius of the curve of the road and your path will leave the road.

@@milesblazek2569 Radius != Rate More often than not, you'll get smaller radius, but turn fewer degrees. Turning a wider radius can result in greater sustained rate of degrees resulting in a faster turn around. (crucial in a 2 circle fight) What you mentioned initially suggested that lowering the engine power would magically allow you to turn better. Which, is not the case in game. It's far more effective to instantaneous turn burning off excess speed to reduce radius in 99% of cases, then maintain that a lighter pull to stay tight. Only exception is if G's are too high to do so. But that's jet territory.

Cannot afford the full setup - question - is it worth purchasing the UFC/HUD panel alone? You commented how they are integrated well together and I see that. Is one piece just not the same without the entire setup? Would mean a mix of mouse to cockpit button and the physical UFC... not sure it's worth it in long run. Thoughts?

The UFC/HUD is a really nice bit to have on its own, arguably more useful than an MFD if, you use your UFC for a lot of data entry. There's no problems just getting it piecemeal or just one part.

I think this game has a lot of potential, but there's some missing features and design that hold it back. For example, you should really be able to aileron roll to change your canopy position with minimal displacement to your velocity vector prior to a pull. Like you said, there's some of this now, but the roll rate seems artificially low. It would also be nice to be able to execute unloaded dives, since they can be so important in getting speed back on for a low-energy aircraft. More importantly, the game seems to "back load" your turns, executing your control input changes at the rear end of the momentum path. While this is efficient, there are times where you want to blend together several short and aggressive maneuvers together. I think this is probably the most important component missing in my mind. It also feels like the game is crying out for a visibility system. There's a board game called "Birds of Prey" by Ad Astra games that nailed this element of it. I think it's missing here. Doing a zero respect belly pass to an opponent at the merge should have very real (and potentially fatal) consequences if you're not able to pick the bandit up on the other side of the turn. Thanks for sharing it. There's definitely room for improvement, but I'm still looking forward to it.

Man...that does look cool Did you guys ever play, back in the day (and I am dating myself here), Air Superiority and Air Strike? They could definitely make a similar game but with Cold War era fighters, etc.

great vid, and yes im late to the party again. Does anyone know if the Phantom can do Drop gpus for others lasing? just wondering how i could get my release cue if i was dropping onto someones elses laser? Looking at using the Kiowa to lase some targets and use Phantom to drop some LGBs from high altitude.

If someone else is lasing, you're best off dive tossing a gbu-12 onto the target area visually. There's no laser spot tracker on the Pavespike. So the Kiowa will have to give you visual references to find it. Or, you might be able to directly see the laser with NVGs depending on the laser mode.

Hey, can I ask a question? After firing a D maverick, the next one will only lock in wide FOV mode. Switching to narrow FOV mode it will not lock. Am I doing something wrong?

Followed that amazing guide (as usual!) to the dot but couldn't get my bombs to track for the life of me. Turns out if you set a different laser code than 1688 in the mission editor (or via rearming menu) the bombs are still on 1688. This is a known issue according to the Heatblur discord. The only way to use a different laser code is via the ground crew menu.

Does the target have to fit within the crosshairs to acheive a lock? If im 2-3 miles from the target, a tank that is slightly than the crosshair boundary is impossible to lock. I know its a little close to fire them, but it doesnt feel like its pushing the envelope of the missiles tracking too hard

It will expand automatically so long as the target is close enough to the centre when you release.

My Maverick screen is so dark and can barely pick up targets even up close (within 10miles), they're just showing up and smudged blobs, I don't get it. I've tried switching the black hot and white hot switch in the back and that made no difference. Any suggestions? I use the default hot start brightness and contrast.

I got the answer for 12-VIS/ WRCS/ 9-VIS switch. In WRCS, you must input an offset (N/S & E/W in feet) into WRCS, then fly over the IP and the WSO should press Freeze then Target Insert onto Cursor Control Panel. Jester can’t do that yet, you need a WSO. But that’s not the easiest way.

The Virpil WarBRD 1 is just that, provided you use the smooth cams. I expect the WarBRD v2 that's for sale now is probably very similar.

Thanks for the tutorial 👍🏻 But for pod cueing, you only covered 12-VIS and 9-VIS then said we can’t slew the pod to coordinates. However, HB manual says that in WRCS mode the pod can be slewed to radar cursor or manually entered coordinates. Yet they don’t say how ?
