I'm definitely in the crowd that would enjoy JDAMs more once we have a targeting pod, but even with the current setup they are very nice weapons. Is it just me or do they feel different from the ones we've had on the Hog? They just seem to be more precise and capable than the older ones. Definitely longer engagement ranges, though that's partly due to the Hornet's higher typical cruising speed and altitude I guess. Maybe I'm just nuts...lol
@Spudknocker5 жыл бұрын
Well DCS was just overhauled to get coordinate decimals which do down the the square meter (I believe) but you're right they will never be as perfectly precise as an LGB due to their larger CEP. And I totally agree on the targeting pod point!

@@Spudknocker I'd love to be a fly on the wall with the team working on the pods. I would love to know which stations will accept them so I can adjust my default loadouts now. I've seen them on 3,4,5,6,and 7. Probably 2 and 8 as well given that those are "smart" points as well.

Hey Spud, I thought of a question when watching your video and a few others detailing this same process. Has anyone tried Pre briefed mode using a low altitude approach and then tossing the JDAM’s? All the videos I see show them being employed in the way you did in this video but I can see my idea, if feasible, being really effective against SAM sites or EWR radars. I can’t think of a reason it wouldn’t work.
@Spudknocker5 жыл бұрын
I do not think that is modeled as of yet in the JDAM's autopilot in DCS, toss bombing has gone way out of style in the 21st century, but i don't see any reason why it wouldn't be incorporated at some point, i personally almost never toss bomb

Thanks for the very informative video. I have the same "DDI" screen as yours with the exception of no "Step" button option. I put in all the coordinates for each Jsow \Jdam fly to the release point and only able to release one at a time. After the first missile is fired I am unable to fire the others onto the designated targets. The coordinates are no longer present and I have to circle around while putting in the coord. for the next missile and so forth for all the remaining missiles. How do I fire all missiles without having to circle around and put in each coord. over and over again? Both beta and purchased copy have the same issue.

when I do the conversations to decimals to latitude and longitude let's say you did the (W116 (Minutes -14) (Seconds-28) and then you entered 20 degrees? how'd you get the 20 degrees, isn't it 116+14/60+28/3600=116.24111111 where'd you get the 20 degrees I am actually curious because I feel like I'm doing it wrong, aren't you suppose to write 24 degrees?

On the F10 map or in the Mission editor you can change the coordinate display modes generated by DCS (I think it’s left Alt-L) so that it’s formatted like W 116-54-16.45 for instance.

On the PG map, I placed a target at "N 27:10.850", according to F10 L-Alt Y decimal coordinates. There was nothing I could do to prevent it from being recognized as N 0:27:10.85 in plan 1. So, I kept being directed to the North Pole. I tried putting in "027:010" and "27:010" but it wasn't changing it. @Spudknocker5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry about it too much they are not implemented, but HDG is the heading the weapon will hit the target from, ANG is the angle at which the bomb will hit the target, and velocity is the speed of the weapon in Feet Per Second.

Really like your videos and they are very helpful minimizing the learning curve of DCS. One erroneous point you made at the beginning of your video about JDAMS not being able to hit a moving target. A JDAM can in fact hit a moving target...but maybe not in DCS.
@Spudknocker5 жыл бұрын
JDAM's cannot hit a moving target, L-JDAM's with a laser seeker in the nose can. JDAM's guide onto a set of coordinates in space and time, they have no active seeker to "see" a moving target

Spudknocker - Is a GBU-32 an L-JDAM? That’s what I’ve read about hitting a moving target.

Ummm... Hmmm... It takes a bit of playing with settings, when it comes to Anti aliasing settings make sure your SSAA is set to 2.0 and you're MSAA is set to 2x, make sure that ansiotrophic filtering is set to 16x and also make sure in the Nvidia control panel you don't have anything over-riding or enhancing the DCS program's settings, DCS doesn't like to play well with the Nvidia control panel.

There's no such thing as IFR conditions. IFR is a set of rules. The meteorological conditions you're referring to is IMC. You can do IFR both in IMC and in VMC but in IMC you can't do VFR, except for Special VFR in some cases to exit a CTR.
@Spudknocker3 жыл бұрын
While you are technically correct many pilots use the term IFR conditions to describe IMC
