I use to have limited success in DDCS in one section of the map Wait for Bra Call on the ramp Ready section At nalchik 2x R-60m + 1x 400L As soons as the 160km High & Hot was broken, Scramble Full Emergency AfterBurner Accelerate to 1200km/h , Nose up to maintain above 1100Km/h Drop the tank. You want to punch trough the contrail as fast as possible. Climb to flight level 55000-60000 to avoid contrail Usually people have their radar looking down in the mountains because you know ''Snake in the grass''. Sustain minimum of Mach 1.6 troughs the whole thing. Then Come down on them at a angle or from behind if it's possible to make the turn at Mach 1.9/2.0 to avoid flame out, Ripple Fire the R-60m the windows to shoot is stupidly small, Nose up & Bug out at Mach 2.1/2.2 (If you miss) that's it ,Going for guns at that closure rate is suicidal , so RTB it is Many F-18 doing sead got mangled using this tactic but after the 3rd plane down the word was out.

Thanks. I really only play multiplayer, the last single player game I played for more than a few hours was Portal. With that said, multiplayer in sim games especially DCS and IL-2 is very server specific . A Mig-21 on Growling is essentially a totally different plane than it is on Cold War. A lot of channels go super deep into the theory or the planes themselves while others just do multiplayer gameplay only. The way I see my channel is a little theory but applying it to a specific server and trying to surface up how to make something work against humans within the confines of that server. On top of that that the mental games that go into multiplayer is something not really talked about and I find that area very interesting. Eventually I would like to break out to some other sim games and explain other games that I find interesting but I am holding off until I get better at editing. I do not like to stream so I do not do it but thanks for asking, I like having a filter between what I say and what goes out in the world so I enjoy the editing process. One thing I forgot to mention with my microphone. The bogey dope keymap is bugged in DCS. You *must* ask for bogey dope via the radio menu before the keymap works. So as you arm your plane do a bogey dope and then your keymap will work as you are flying around.

This was and still is not a bug. But its part of the radio comms. But I agree it should be made differently, easier to access. When you are in a hurry, there is no time to play with a mouse and clicking some small menus in top right corner of the screen.

Honestly, in DCS, it's more like 2005-2010 NATO against a 1972 MiG. Back in the 90s, they were still slinging Sparrows (at least outside the US) and had no fancy JHMCS or 9X any of that gucci stuff. Every time I see someone taking the 21 out in GS and wrecking with it, it makes me smile. I might have to give it another go myself, it's been a long time since I've flown it on there. Edit - the warping isn't DCS 2.7, it's GS' server in particular. It's always been a laggy mess, but ever since around the time Supercarrier dropped, it's non-stop rubber-banding. I don't know what kind of machine he runs it on, but it clearly isn't up to the job. The only other one I've seen run that badly in the past six months is Just Dogfight, which is also notorious for it. As for taking off in mil... ultimately you're not really saving any practical amount of fuel, to be honest. I always take off in AB and switch to emergency AB if engaged below 4000m, and my usual sortie time is about 20 minutes. The 21 is mostly relying on sheer brute power to attain and keep its airspeed, so flying at lower power settings means you're still spending a lot of fuel trying to fight the drag and you're taking longer to get where you're going.

I mostly play on Cold War 1947-1991, but Blue Flag 60s and 80s can be quite nice and DDCS is definitely worth checking out, especially if you like longer campaigns.

@@Enigma89 thats a MiG-21bis aka 1972 and that's not 60's ask the Bulgarian Airforce pilots that beat in those things block 50/52's f-16 on regular basis by the way you dont need radar with heat seeking missiles that fire up to 20km's xD

The only soviet planes that had access to fox 3s were MiG25 and 31, and even those were meant against non manouvering targets. Sure, Mig21 cant mount R24/27 either, but it can mount the Fox1s off the Tu128 long range interceptor, so if you absolutely must go BWR with it you can, but with how bad your radar is, you are absolutely meabt to be put on someone's rear by GCI and ram an R60M up their tailpipe.

I tried the Mig 29 once, actually got 3 kills and it was verry fun bc you have no datalink and need to rely on the awacs callouts. You still have iff and good missiles so you can actually do something

Very interesting video. The afterburner may suck up fuel, but that plane MOVES in ‘burner. Giving away a lot in technology but not in brute power gives the skilled pilot (that would be you) the chance he needs against superior weapons and sensors.

I know it's an old video, but it bothers me to see wheel steering in free/horizontal position while taking off. Takes me back to the days i used to wonder why the plane shakes so much on takeoff Otherwise, great video! This video, as well as Drewski's Su-27/J-11 videos, inspire me to take the courage and fly in the PVP servers. Though, the most discouraging aspect of pvp for me are accidental friendly kills

MiG21 radar does not give lock warnings btw, only launch and nails. But nails only inside 30km or so. Its totally broken

There are so many channels showing you how to do basic aircraft procedures, but basically zero about how to put it together and get kills on a multiplayer server. Lots of theory and no practice.

My main struggle with these tactics these days is the AWACS. Any time I request a bogey dope, I get ten different messages, all talking on top of each other, and it’s remarkably disorienting. I tried picture, but it has a funny habit of giving nonsensical responses (my favorite was a BRAA 175, 20, 0, hot that appeared consistently for ten minutes no matter how I maneuvered). Losing even more SA compared to the enemy makes an already difficult challenge significantly harder. I’d go hunting in a Viggen in a heartbeat if AWACS didn’t give me a headache whenever I hop on GS.

Ah yes the usual F16 friendly fire on growling. It ain't a growling sortie if someone doesn't get friendly fired. Not hating or whatever but it's just funny thing that just completes the experience. Also been thinking about the mig 21 just so I can train my self to listen to awacs and to be smart this video has pretty much sold me on the idea. Been spoiled by the modern systems using something more analog probs help understand the basics alot more and improve my skills overall. Really great video and now a subscriber. Another thing cheeki breeki tactics are always the most fun.

So rarely see it in the servers that I play on the regualr that I always assume the M2 rwr symbol as a Sam or ground radar then end up getting smacked and as soon as I learn my lesson the mirage disappears until the next time I forget and get killed by it again. Pure stealth from limited brain capacity and stupidity.

Hey mate I tried doing the same on the growling sidewinder pvp server with my Mig-21 but I can't get any radio response back at all. This includes the AWACS, ATC and ground crew. Even in the ED single player missions it doesn't work. I've double checked the freqs because even the text is highlighted when I bring up the intercomm menu so it is matching, but my pilot speaks but never gets a response.

GS has been changing their mission a lot. Biggest suggestion is to check the briefing and compare that to the radio channel then compare that to what is tuned on srs.

@@Enigma89 it seems to be a bug with the open beta....? I went back to stable on steam and it worked fine, getting responses in both single and multiplayer. Then reloaded the open beta and again no responses in either single or multiplayer. This is weird *edit* I also tried your cold war server, same issue.

bro, imagine flying an F-15 and getting popped by a MiG-21 lmao You should try using a more ballistic trajectory when you pounce on your target. keep off the double racks and you'll be able to gank targets at 1.8, making survival easier

Yes they can lock you. They wont see you on rwr though so that let's you be sneaky. If they are just flying along you can slot in under them.

I don't think he is trying to steal anything. He is just doing a video of flying the Mig-21 around the Cold War for the first time so I don't think he is doing anything nefarious. I think the recent popularity in the Mig-21 is really because of Hoggit's Syria at War server. There seems to be a lot of new interest in it so there are just a lot more people who want to learn it. So it seems normal that a big KZbinr would want to do a video on it. Ironically, I have been flying on the Cold War server a lot lately, today I put in maybe 4 hours on there, and am deciding on what sort of video I want to make with it. So my next video may be similar to his if I decide not to make a funny version of the video.
