As a former Soviet Airforce Hip pilot I can confirm that the search lights do in fact phase through the cockpit floor. It's dangerous to do at night as they blind you.

At first, I was a bit skeptical about watching a 20 minutes video only about the Mi8 lights. I am really glad I did. There were definitively a couple of things I didn't know after all those years flying the Hip in DCS. Highly recommended to our Rotorheads at BlackSharkDen squadron!

Ah! I didn't know there were two independently steerable spotlights! I've only been using the pilot side one. Thanks! One trick I like to do is make the spotlight line up with the gunsight. Then you can aim with the light.

Very good tutorials, informative. Enjoy them a lot. It is worth to mention that top lights rheostat next to flight engineer, which you say does not do anything, in reality controls about 50% of lights intensity on central console and 100% intensity of G-meter and backup gyroscope on windshield.

Very impressive tutorial video! It would be great if you could make a video on how to best adjust the lights for Night Vision Goggles. For example, I find that the radar altimeter warning light and the doppler hover assistance light both make using NVG really annoying as they are so bright. And I've not been able to find a way to dim them.
@vsTerminus4 жыл бұрын
There is no way to adjust those specific lights currently :(

But wait! There's more! There's actually one final light. On the left side panel for the Pilot-Commander, below the two pressure guages, there's a button to flash the Nav lights for signaling. Despite flying the Mi-8 in DCS for a while now you've still managed to show me a couple of new things with your series. Keep up the good work! Will you be tackling CTLD in multiplayer at some point? Feels like we're missing a couple of really good tutorials for that.
@vsTerminus4 жыл бұрын
Damn I missed one?! I thought I found everything! So many lights. So many lights. In terms of CTLD, are you looking for a guide on how to use it? Because it sort of depends on how each server implements it.
@Stubbino4 жыл бұрын
@@vsTerminus Yeah. Most of the guides are for how to set it up in the mission editor. Very little in the way for actual use whilst in game. There's a few common features that could do with a good breakdown. Stuff like how to do multi-crate builds. What the FOB does. Beacons? That sort of thing.

Hey, quick question. I flew a night mission or two yesterday and couldn't get the nav lights on the nose when pilons are not on to appear. I wonder if you've noticed it being a bug since the video was made or if there something else ?
@vsTerminus4 жыл бұрын
Yea, if you remove the pylons via the rearming window you lose the nav lights as well. It's a reported bug, but I don't know if/when to expect a fix.

you or anyone knows if there is a master light button or something like that if you need a fast shutoff if your under attack during night?

Hey, do you have problems with the cockpit lighting being really din right now? I thought it's them finally implementing day/night lighting but nope, that switch still doesn't seem to do anything.

Yea, you bet. The lighting has been really dim for a long time now.

@@vsTerminus And especially with DCS' dodgy cockpit lighting that makes it super dark even in broad daylight, it's very annoying.

Hey @vsTerminus, I noticed that your anti-collision light (Beacon) looks brighter and slower than the one in my game.. Do you have some type of mod that enhances the look of lighting? Does the RoughMet mod do this?
@vsTerminus3 жыл бұрын
I do run ReShade with a custom profile, but there were lighting changes made to the DCS engine since this video was created so it's possibly it's a combination of both factors. My ReShade profile is here: www.patreon.com/posts/my-reshade-49449819

@@vsTerminus Thanks for replying... It's most likley the changes made to the game engine, I personally work closley to Mi-171 of the Ecuadorian Army, and the lighting in your video is exactly how it is in real life, the timing and way the beacon rotates is very similar.. Either way, thank's for sharing your profile with me. Keep up the great work!!

Has DCS lighting changed a lot since this video? My flashlight is too bright and my nav lights too dim (even on the bright settings - as in the amount of light thrown to the ground).
@vsTerminus Жыл бұрын
It's not so much that the lights in the Hip have changed as it is the DCS lighting engine has gone through at least two major updates since this video released. They have tweaked the Mi-8's lights in response but the changes are mainly engine based.
