DCS: Persian Gulf map - is it worth the price?

I have quite a lot of the DCS DLCs and I have never bought one that wasn’t at a 50% discount and that includes both the Persian Gulf & Nevada. I realize this is an older video but I found it to be helpful & interesting. Thanks! :)

Buy it on sale. The DCS Modules tend to go on 25-50% sale every few months. (currently one going for winter steam sale)

well as long as the money goes to furter develop the game i would have no problem paying full price for it and im quite poor and still dont have the map so its a really good thing you mentioned this :) i am so impressed by this simulator and you can clearly tell they are in it for everyone who never got to fly these beauties and the once that that are retired

NTTR also looks great at low altitude over Vegas. But that's not where military targets usually are. Does it look trash over unpopulated areas too?

Pretty bland over unpopulated areas; but overall I still rate PG and fly in it a lot.

Fidelity of terrain is a solid 8 out 10 - urban Fidelity is a 4-5 out of 10. I don't blame DCS though half my city is full of unique designed skyscrapers ... There is also something quite funny. The city of Dubai seems to be modeled on Dubai 10-14 years ago. Quite surprised they didn't put Doha or even Kuwait city on the map. That's Gulf War battlefield after all. Maybe they updated it? Really tempted to get DCS.

MSFS is where you will see the best fidelity in a simulated Dubai, esp with the Orbx addon pack. DCS is fantastic at creating realistic fighter aircraft simulation.

TO be honest this map should have focused on the northern part of the Persian Gulf, Focusing on Northern Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon, with parts of Egypt including the Sinai peninsula. A map of that size would keep you going for years. You can simulate 50 years of wars in the region, from the 6 Day War, to the Iran-Iraq War, Gulf War and the subsequent no fly zones. 2003 Iraq War and the Syrian war. totalling about 3.5 million km2 It was one of the first maps added to the game so I can understand why they decided to focus on a small area, 200,000km2 but with the addition of the South Atlantic map which is 3.1 million square km. bigger maps can be done. I love DCS, but my biggest gripe is the lack of historical and present combat maps. Only 2 maps in the game represent modern conflicts, plus Normandy. Those 2 maps are Georgia (for the 2008 Russian invasion) and Syria, which is still ongoing. And yes I know the South Atlantic map does feature the Falklands, but there is only 1 plane that works for the map if you want to simulate the 1982 Falklands War, and thats the free Skyhawk mod

Has anyone else have the odd feeling of flying your aircraft "above a carpet just 4 or 5 feet away" when flying over the "flat brown textured terrain" before reaching the buildings near the coastline? I don't get it, why the big expanse of flat land that from above look more like a carpeted floor? (the only saving grace is the lack of the aircraft's shadow).

The hype train has left the station, you only need to look at the top 10 MP servers, when Persian Gulf map was released they all used this map, 2 months on 95% of them have gone back to the Caucasus map. Persian is a great map but unless your playing SP/missions and using its hard to justify the cost since its hard to find using it on MP.

This video was meant to be for people like myself who held off on buying the map - but I can see your point for those who only want to play MP (although I have seen some great youtube vids of guys using the PG map on MP missions).

Just can't see it Huddison, maybe is just my 720p screen that is unable to show the whole glory of that huge scale good approximation of the real life Persian Gulf. Something feels uncompleted with that map, I guess in order to run with more that 10 FPS it need to be easy to the high res textures, but those building are unacceptable.It lacks the quality for the asked price. More precise value will be 12-15 £. That flying school of yours turn to cost fortune.

Welcome to the enthusiast level of flight simulators my friend; Flight School is more generic - i.e. it will place a few famous landmarks, but it's mainly rinse and repeat. 1080p really does this justice.

yes flight sim 2020 made maps in dcs extremely overprized and obsolete. 50USD for a small map, it just dosent cut it anymore... i wish dcs could use fs2020 techology that would be awesome
