DCS VR 4K | F-15E Strike Eagle | Burning Skies US | It Goes BOOM in the Night

I'm paying a visit to the enemy once again on the Sinai map at night. My primary target is an ammunition bunker with a secondary goal of destroying as many enemy ground forces as possible. I grabbed 2 x GBU-31 v 3/B (the penetrator version) and the plan is to drop two of these on that bunker to destroy it.
I am also bringing along a nice mix of 3x CBU-97's and 4x GBU-12's. The 97's are highly effective at destroying multiple enemy ground forces with a single drop while the GBU-12 is great for those which require greater precision (such as tanks) or lone vehicles.
For those interested, to clear up the blur of NVG's..
This will not pass integrity checks for Pure Client so you need to play on a server which does not enforce Pure Client. I also suggest using a mod manager such as OVGME or Open Mod Manager as this will get overwritten when DCS updates. It also allows you to quickly remove it if you wish to fly on a server which would not allow it.
in your DCS directory, navigate to:
bazar/shaders/PostEffects/
edit the file: NVD_HDR.fx
At line 65, change it to match the following (just changing the numerical value to 0.05):

Now that I'm enjoying the NVG for the first time in DCS, my next question is, are they adjustable or is the brightness level fixed? Oh and you also got me using the better smoke mod. What a big difference it makes in VR! Looks so much better 😅

I love the better smoke mod. It makes the battlefield look alive (or dead?). Yes, you can adjust the brightness in the NVG. You need to bind a key/button to the increase gain / decrease gain. I didn't know about this for a long time and now that I know, it's indispensable. At the airbase, it's helpful to decrease it. I also decreased it in a video where the FLIR display was washed out / too bright.

Nice! Really appreciate your help. It's funny to hear you saying the same things I was thinking last night about the NVG. I agree, it's an awesome tool, but it's nice to turn it off at certain times to enjoy the scenery and then back on as needed. I definitely find that my landings are better and safer with it on 😂

@@redtailpilot yeah its good to hear that you aren’t alone at times with how you do things in DCS. I thought I should explain why I often turn off the NVGs. Sometimes to help me spot stuff and other times to enjoy how cool the lighting is. I think they did an amazing job with it all.

Yeah I plan to be on today. I’m sure we will wind up being on at the same time. The NVG mod details are in the video description. You just need to edit one line in the file mentioned. I use a mod manager and so I created the package which is simply a zip file containing the modified file inside a directory structure which matches the installation. This way it’s trivial to remove for the rare occasion that I want to fly on a pure client server and to restore it after a DCS update.
