DCS World Basic Radios and Ground Operations

In this video we explore the DCS World ATC, Radios, and cover some basic ground operations involving radios. We discuss the use of SRS and text in multiplayer as well as the use of the in game radio operation. The intent is to provide a "primer" for using radio communications. It will always require practice to get perfect! :D

Ive been learning to fly for the past 6 months with my Son doing all radio coms. this is a great overview that allowed me to enter notes on my ipad for quick reference. I like how clear and detailed this is. I will look for more of your vids regarding guided missiles, bombs and pod set up. Wags videos are awesome but as and old guy new to DCS, I have a tough time keeping up. Thanks!

Very well done and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to make this. My only critique would be that the use of Track IR while sitting in the cockpit is a bit annoying as you keep moving your head around, a bit like the people who are constantly waving their mouse pointer around while talking. I know it's not a big thing but I am sure there are others who might find it annoying as well.

Good that you start with the basics - I think your style will lend well to DCS since 20-30 minutes into most tutorials you are already airborne and getting ready to drop bombs and the basics are never covered and for those of us who don't play DCS as our primary game can be intimidating.

Absolutely. I'm not as proud of this video as I'd like to be... just too many variations on what can and can't be said. I'm glad I didn't throw combat comms in too. Waaaaay too much going on there to combine into this video!

Really the point is to encourage people to announce what they are doing on multiplayer servers so it isn't an absolute charlie foxtrot around busy airports... so if you DON'T have SRS, then typing it into the chat in DCS World is a solid alternative to doing nothing.

This game looked extraordinarily hard for me the first time seeing it, with stuff like “flight simulator” and “fully modeled cockpit” and all that made me think I’d be spending years mastering a plane. Seeing it now, it actually doesn’t seem _too_ bad to learn, so I’ll buy a joystick and the F5 Tiger and I’ll try this game. :]

Do it! If nothing else, there is two free modules (a free P-51 with no weapons and an Su-25T with weapons) to fly as well! :)

@@SenkaBandit No problem! The best time to buy a module is during the FREQUENT sales Eagle Dynamics puts on. The Flaming Cliffs 3 module is like 10 aircraft (all non clickable cockpits) for like $25 on sale, $50 normally. Usually can get some good deals on the full fidelity ones too. Thing to remember is we are training 22-28 year olds to fly them. If they can figure it out, we can too! :D

Left traffic is not always a given, there are sometimes right traffic patterns, even at military bases.

Indeed. For a lot of MP servers, left hand traffic is the norm in CTAF controlled air spaces like 99.99% of the time on servers like Through the Inferno. A lot of the other approaches, proper approaches, require the approach plates and a controller which isn't a given.

While i do enjoy this video as an introduction it's very hard to go back to your actual examples, could be condensed to 2 minutes with just the examples. (it's impossible to remember everything)
