Very nice Cap...very similar to real world pilots (in the U.S) flying into an uncontrolled airfield. Very important to prevent planes from slamming into one another. The only difference being , since we are in smaller airplanes, we would intercept the downwind on a 45 degree angle., even then, considering some airplanes don't have or required to have radios, close calls can still happen.

It's a bit convoluted...the actual (real world) ATC would be briefer. eg RW 09 left initial contact would be: A "“ Tower, "southwest, inbound for landing with Kilo.” followed by a tower acknowledgement and pattern entry instructions B “, Tower, enter right downwind, runway 09, report entering right downwind.” No need to call "Initial" or "breaking" or even "final" unless you didn't receive landing clearance when calling downwind. For departure under VMC you would call for taxi clearance: "Tower

Great video, as always. This simplified etiquette is perfect for public servers. You actually did a nice job on this diagram as well, any way you can post it up somewhere so we can "borrow" it from you? :)

Thanks alot again! Just barely done trainers with su-25 and jumping to pub server is something that is, well scary. Not for myself, but have all the time feeling that i´m goin to ruin somebodys missions or something. Even in training servers.. :)

BTW? Just to clear my mind.. Does 09 in this case mean "90degrees" (->west to east).. ?

So IF runway would be like "one-eight-zero" would landing happen in -> north-south direction..? (so the number is in degrees where planes cockpit should point in runway..?) Did I (me dummy) understand correct?

Hey man pattern to altitude means

How do we decide on the pattern we are going to use, this one or the carrier landing pattern(800 feet, 350 kt then break into the downwind)? I've been using the carrier landing pattern to any airfields.

What factors determine which pattern we're gonna use?

Pretty much the same way from what i have seen - Helicopters taxi (hover or wheels) and use the runway to take of and land - there are colored spots and ATC if available will give them a spot to land on (not in DCS though). They also use a "Gliding cant think of the right word" take of and landing and do not go straight up and down. Although saying all this I beleive that some airfields (busy internationals?) have specific areas and instructions for helicopters.

@@slysi5209 what about pattern? Do choppers fly same pattern with much faster planes or do they have a pattern of their own? Ive had several dangerous moments when trying to land on runway and I am just not fast enough to avoid incoming or out going traffic with my mi-8

@@Proximax9 Again going off "internet knowledge" only here - Same pattern but altitude separated. So say if fixed wing pattern is currently flown at 1Kft the Rotary patten could be flown at 300-500 ft. I've seen RL examples where its been stated the the Rotary patten is to be flown opposite the fixed wing patten too but again i believe this was specific airfield instructions and not in general terms.

@@slysi5209 that makes sense :) I think I will try that next time :D
