DCS World Campaign - Su-25T - Georgian Oil War - Mission 1

All hail DIRCM, Mercury Thermal Pod, the "Grach" and Vikhr!
2021 is going to be the year of campaigns in DCS World.
I´ve set myself a goal to complete, or try to complete, every campaign i own in DCS World.
Starting with the Flaming Cliff´s campaigns.
The first Su-25 had a radiobug so i skipped that.
The rules are simple:
1: Create a new DCS World profile.
2: Only one life per campaign, death = next campaign.
3: Dont change starting loadout, only if resupply is needed can i pick my own loadout.
4: Dont change standard flightplan, no demand to follow it.
5: Must land after each mission, no demand to taxi to parking.
6: No replay of missions.

I am playing this campaign right now and it would have been impossible for me to make any progress without labels. There are just so many gun/IR AA. Admittedly I don't have head tracking but still. It is very difficult to defend against IR Missiles since you get no warning, especially with IGLAs.

Dont forget to use DIRCM and "Continues flares" and never go too deep. Its better to abort and go for another run than be on top of your enemies. There is so short a distance back to base, that you have plenty of fuel for several runs.

This is very different from my Mission #1. Mine is to interdict two columns of armor coming down the coast road. Each column of T-72s has an Sa-9 and a Shilka at the rear. Behind the second column is an Sa-13. The road back along the coast is full of ZU-23s, Shilkas, and Manpads. No thermal pod. No ECM. My wingman and I get slaughtered every time. The autopilot is buggy as hell, which doesn't help. Sometimes, I get your Mission #1. Recon and targets of opportunity. Usually, I get this nightmare. I don't understand why my Mission #1 is not the one everyone else has.

Hello. Thats sounds very weird indeed. But the campaigns for the FC3 and a like modules are known to be buggy, i sure hope that ED will remake them at one time, since they are a ton of fun when they work. About the AP, try setting your barometric altimeter to 760, that can often fix those weird AP movement. For some reason the AP only works correct at "760". By the way, are you using the fully updated Open Beta of DCS or the stable version?

If you die, your next attempt might be a different mission. If you can find this mission, I'd like to see your approach to completing it. I need to use my wingman more, I think.

I’m watching this thinking where the hell are the sa-11 and da-18 sights on the coast???? No a-10s providing air cover, and my boi is just smooth hitting whatever he wants. Meanwhile in my game, I’ve changed to the ecm pod, all long range laser guided weapons, and I get maybe 7 target before I’m struck on a roll out while absolutely dumping chaff and flare. It’s gotta be me for sure but I had to set it down yesterday in fear of yeeting my joystick.

The ED campaigns changes often, ive heard several people saying that their version is much different, often to the worse. But ED is more interested in selling new campaigns than fixing the good old ones, so if you can play the campaigns, be happy, because the next update may break them. I have many things to say about the current state ED is in and their businessprocedures but that is a whole different subject.

How can you tell if you are targeting a truck or an AA? This mission is super hard :-(

Just look for two pointy things and the lack of wheels. Trucks are more boxy and square looking. If you mean AAA on flatbeds then look for trucks without the "box" behind the cabin. AAA in a static position is surrounded by a circle of sandbags; look for a circle with two pointy things in it. Often i dont see the AAA guns, i just see the circle, quickly lock it and then use a few seconds to confirm. Remember that for AAA you are looking for two barrels and for trucks you are looking for a "car", and then experience and repeatability does the rest.

I kept dying and cracking on the first encounter with the enemy near waypoint 4 and I was only able to hit the enemy once. The missiles that I had wouldn’t even sustain a lock. Every time I try to hold a lock on the A10s it was so hard. I still haven’t finished the mission yet Edit: to be fair tho I don’t have a head tracker or a Vr headset. I’m waiting for the quest 3. But in the meantime I’ll have to play without any head movement

With the Maverick´s in the A-10, they dont need a constant lock from the launchplatform after launch. They are launch and leave. All laser guided/corrected munition need a constant illumination of the intended target; technically those munition do not lock onto anything, they see/follow the brightest laserenergy spot ie. the returnspot/reflection from the target. Therefore, with laserguided/corrected munition, you need a constant and sufficient laserspotreturn that the sensor in the munition can see, from launch until impact. In the case of the Vikhr, you need to lock the target pre-launch, get the "launch authorised" message, launch the missile/rocket, maintain laserillumination of the target until impact. That procedure is the same no matter the platform, the procedure are dictated by the munition, not the platform. And with every type of munition, they all have a minimum and maximum range, make sure that you are within those parameters. Which rockets/missiles did you use at which ranges? Whether or not you have headtracking gear, have no impact on the platform or munitions, the Vikhr weapon and Shkval sensorcomplex are frontal hemisphere orientated, so being able to look around makes no difference. Im sure that there are plenty of great tutorials on youtube on how to use the Vikhr, but if you like, i could make a video on how i use it and the Shkval sensorcomplex.

Its because i use the "Mercury" FLIR pod. Equip it on the centerline when re-arming and hit the key for "FLIR" or "Thermal", i cant remember which button it is.

Hello. The "T" model is a dedicated antitank model, the "T" is short for "Tahnkovvy", which means "Tank". not only that, but the "T" model incorporates all the improvements and lessons learned from the Su-25 experiences in the Soviet Afghan war. And the "T" model is also modified and optimised to use PGM munitions. The "T" model had more effecient engines which gaves a higher thrust-to-weight ration, lower IR signature and better Hot ´n dry performance, so the "T" actually where more maneuverable with the same loadout. The step from the first Su-25 to the "T" model was a quantumleap, much like the A-10A and A-10C. If you are interested in the history of the Su-25 i recommend the two books by Mr. Gordon and Mr. Komissarov. Famous Russian Aircraft - Su-25 ISBN 978-1-91080-940-2 and Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot, the soviet unions tank buster - ISBN 978-1-85780-254-2. If you can only get one of the books, i recommend the first one the most.

5:05 8:00 Is there a way to change Shkval's brightness and contrast? For me, the targets blend with the terrain a lot, so I can't see anything. EDIT: OMG I had no idea about the Mercury pod. I was trying to do this mission with the regular one. Going to give Mercury a try on my next run.

Hello Igor. Good question, i will take a look later today. I know there is on the Ka-50 module, but the Su-25T is a Flaming Cliffs module, so i dont know at the moment. The Mercury pod is so good, it makes spotting targets so much easier.

I don't get it. As soon as I enter the combat zone, a SAM is locking me constantly, + AA and IR missiles everywhere, even next to the target tanks are two AAs and my wingman says, unable to engage AA when I tell him once the smoke is visible, before getting shot down shorty after. I can't turn properly because left, huge mountain and right AA and IR missiles everywhere. The screen is as useless as it gets, I can't see anything on it and the Vikhr missiles have a 50/50 chance to just fly through the target and hit the ground behind it. It's pure luck, if you make it through. No strategy or tactic at all. Is every mission like this?

1: Stay above AAA range, that also give you reaction time to deploy countermeasures against MANPADS. 2: Its DCS, the wingman have always been borderlining useless, but use them as bait and then spot where the enemy air defences are. 3: The mountainridge on the left have several valleys, use them as ground cover when egressing while deploying flares in continues mode. 4: They changed the Mercury screen and i havent tried it for months, so i cant help you there. 5: The Vihkrs used to be super precise, i have fired thousands of Vikhrs, so unless they changed them too, its most likely usererror. 6: Spend time planning your attack, its better to circle for 5 - 10 minutes spotting targets and planning your ingress/egress than just bull in. That being said; DCS campaigns have changed alot the last year or so, so perhaps i should try them again.

@@bmbpdk I tried again without going below 1,5 km altitude and moved all the way back to the sea before turning around for the next attack. Hugged the mountain to the left also and turned all the jammers on. Still got hit at some point lol but I was way safer that way. Are manpads able to shoot through trees and am I more visible with jammers on overall?

@@niyiu3547 You did as you should, MANPADS and AAA is the biggest threat since they give you practically no warning and can popup literally anywhere. If i remember correct, the AI does not see trees as obstacles, so yes, they can see and shot through trees. But i believe that trees triggers proximityfuses in warheads. Technically DIRCM actually makes you more visible for an IR sensor, that is the point; when the sensor/missile gets close enough it gets blinded and can even burn out. DIRCM does work, but is not 100%, just like all other jammers and countermeasures; they only reduce the chance of getting hit, they do not eliminate it. So always keep that on when entering a hot zone. I highly recommend the software called Tacview, its really great to analyze exactly how you got hit and to see how countermeasures works. Ive spend many hours in Tacview to analyze exactly how, when and where i got hit, and adjusted my tactics accordingly.

Hello thank for your kind words. I do not use anything for targeting or spotting. Triangulate a approximately enemy positions from rivers, towns, powerlines, woods etc. For that use the map in the briefing or cheat a bit with the F10 map.

Hello, the little monitor is the Shkval monitor/screen. I do not remember the button for it, but look in the settings for something like "EO" if i remember correctly. The best tip you can get is to do the tutorials and read the manual if the tutorials does not cover it. DCS is a study sim and it requires therefore some studying.

The Track IR unit itself sees that IR light and translates that into movement, sunlight is IR light and the Track IR does not know which IR light is which, so its an absolute hell to use the Track IR in sunlight/during the day. Even the light from a woodstove messes up the Track IR, so its a pain to find the exact position and angle and settings in the software; its totally unique for each person. Yes you can tune down the sensitivity for the unwanted IR sources, but that also tunes down the wanted sources, so its plague or cholera or dont use it during daylight or spent hours fidling with position, angles and settings.

Hello. I use the Track IR hardware, it is a VERY nice piece of hardware, almost a must for flightsimming. I bought mine several years back, at least five years back, and it stil hold up great. Although now its very expensive, but if you flightsim much, i highly recommend it.

Hello. If you completed more than 50% percent of the mission, the campaign should advance automatically. If it does not, i dont know why, sorry. Check mission progress when in-mission, i cant remember the key, check key settings for that.

Either your loadout was way off balance or you didn trim. When launching heavy weapons, counter the imbalance with the stick and trim it out. Just notice that you have to retrim when launching the opposite weapon. See if that helps.

@@doglaikadog Never use autopilot in combat. The autopilot uses the trim to move around, so its much faster and stable if you initially counter the weight with the stick and then trim it out. Self leveling can be used if there are no enemy air defences to stable the plane while using the sights, but its much better to trim it out, that way you have a much better feeling of the plane, autopilot takes away the feeling. When you learn to trim, trim is your friend, no matter what the platform is.

@@bmbpdk So that means just after the launch you habe to move the stick to the opposite side to level out and keep it like that for all maneuver(which is very difficult whaen you come for another bombing run) and once you launch the second missile from the other side you will level out..... it seems to be sooo difficult and when i used level out feature of autopilot it levels out but when i turn off autopilot the system goes haywire and there was some trim inversion and eventually crash(coz i didnt have altitude ). is this because i use keyboard for control and will it be solved when i use an hotas?????

@@sreyasis9131 You use the keyboard? Its most likely that is the reason, do yourself a favor and get a joystick and throttle. If budget is tight try out Thrustmaster T16000 FCS set. My procedure is: 1: Launch 2: I immediately correct with the stick 3: I trim it out so the stick is physically center 4: Repeat as needed Remember that when you have the trim controls on your stick, everything is easy and quickly becomes seconds nature. Trim is your friend.

The autolock is part of the weaponsystem, when ever a high-contrast object is in view, the sensors autolock on it. You can provoke a autolock by using the "lock" key, i believe it is the "return" key.

Yes i realize that. Remember that the ED FC campaigns are often massively bugged, often more bugged after each update, so often scripts dont work anymore, enemies dont show up, messages dont show or the radio/COMM´s dont work. The old campaigns are like walking on ice; you never know if you fall through.
