Nice review. Another thing to note is the marvel legends head sculpt is based off the animated series version and Mafex head sculpt is based off of the comic version.

Good review. However these figures are 5 years apart. I feel if Mafex would release a wolverine on a new sculpt It would blow marvel legends out the water.

Isn’t the new age of apocalypse wolverine a new sculpt? The xforce wolverine was also a different sculpt from tiger stripe and brown suit. Xforce wolverine is pretty great.

Mafex has way better paint but is it really worth the extra $? Not imo, i have the VHS series snd and didn't even bother to upgrade to the 97.

It depends honestly. The mafex is objectively better. Way better proportions and joints. But some people hate the blue stripes. Legends did a really good job so i don't know if the mafex wolverine is 80 dollars more better. But some other characters are way better than legends that they have done. Cyclops, magneto, spiderman to name a few. But hasbro didn't do a great job with spiderman or magneto yet so I got the mafex versions. But it's up to who ever wants it if it's worth the cost to get a slightly better wolverine.

If ML will upgrade body mold like Jada Toys SF have then there's no way Mafex will be able to beat ML but for now Appearance goes ML and pose-ability wise goes to Mafex but still it depends on what pose u want to do because ML can already do Iconic poses. Ima wait Jada toys get Marvel License lol

What do you mean? This is basically the only marvel legends figure that is even close to mafex. They have done a really bad job at 99 percent of the figures they release. I wish it weren't true because I collect them, but the truth is the legends line is full of lazy bearly good enough figures that cut corners regardless of how it effects the figure.

@@limpx336 alot of legends stuff is trash but not all, given how old some of the ML is... Then ofc it will be outdated especially on body mold and articualtion dept. Remember 80yrs anniv and 20yrs anniv where alot of them is still good or on top up to this date, ironman, thor, captain america, hulk, juggy and colosus are value for the money where that time legends pricing is reasonable. DR Doom also one of the best they released. * ML 80th anniv Thor > Mafex classic Thor * ML 20th Anniversary Cap > Upcoming Mafex Classic Cap I'm not just comparing here the figure alone ofc price counts too whereas Mafex pricing always 80usd or 100usd UP and ML around 25usd to 35usd depending on the character and who or where you buying the figure. Like I said if ML going to make an articulation similar to Jada SF then it's going to be a tough competitor to premium figures like Jada SF vs SHF SF. Jada RYU vs SHF RYU where SHF Ryu is better but not that much and ofc with higher price tag so if your on a budget then its a no brainer.

I have both... I was on the fence about purchasing the Mafex... but it is lightyears better in every aspect and much more premium. The video differences look marginal, but in hand the Mafex looks incredibly detailed and comic accurate, the 97 looks like a bad 80s cartoon.

Yes, Mafex is more superior in a way but not very much different from ML. Perhaps if you look from another perspective, what if Mafex was asked to reduced their price/cost to what ML is selling now, would it still be as good as ML?

The gambit is a great comparison. And surely that upgrade is a good choice because of thr soft goods the posing is great but also you get gambit in the none jacket version

I think it’s the neck. The mafex has a nice short stocky neck white the marvel legends is longer. Also the back/neck is kind of curved on the legends.

The Marvel Legends Wolverine is a Great figure and better head sculpt imo, when it comes to Mafex don’t care for the claws and head sculpt. Mafex did do a great brown suit Wolverine though! I’m also excited to see Mafex AOA Wolverine, he looks great!

Thank you for the nice review and comparison it helps so much! but 1proportions on ML look wrong because belt is sitting too low ( please fix that :) because this comparison is not fair) Talking about proportions ML biceps look bigger and better for the scale,the waist is too thin on Mafex and also shoulders are too tobotic and high on the Mafex. 2 paint should not be metallic on ML it;s the animated wolverine so it's not a budget thing. 3 Mafex has better sculpting on the legs and looks better when standing because of ab articulation but ML Destroys Mafex in every other pose. ML looks way better than mafex if you try classic wolverine poses 4 ML heads are top while Mafex both are mediocre 5 finish is better on Mafex because it actually has a finish. If you want that look on ML you can use a clear spray super matt like Mr Hobby matt and the figure will look more premium 6 ML has 2 swivels on legs(you forgot or didn't notice boot swivel) these 2 are very nice for extreme poses and toy photography By the way I love my Mafex figures it's just that 97 wolverine is a masterpiece. And I can't wait to see more ML wolverines with the new buck thet is coming. I think it's going to rule every other wolverine. I just hope that new wolverine can do the same deep crouch forgot to mention the fact that shoulder articulation ruins tiger stipes is the worst thing on Mafex

The Mafex is pricey but with the Marvel Legends Wolverine sold out, the price gouging is almost up there in $$. At that point, save a bit more and get the Mafex.

honestly the Marvel's cut design on the abs is something I hate. Price on Mafex is something that I'm not a fan of but I always feel Mafex as collectibles vs ML more like toys. Building my Xmen collection with Mafex honestly... Gambit is amazing... waiting for Rogue or nightcrawler!

Legends' masked face looks like Wolverine is a Squidward Chad, Mafex one is more rough. The Logan head on Legends is perfect, not that it's a perfect sculpt of him in X-Men '97 but of the character in general. The Mafex head doesn't even look like it's the same guy without the mask. The claws on Legends are too thin that looks like sticks but it's show accurate, but they should have a shine on it. The Mafex one are WAY too large. Even the brown suit version are too rounded. Both of them lack the neck piece to go alongside the unmasked head and cowl. But i'll take Mafex one, if one day they release it with the neck piece, better Logan sculpt, better claws, black stripes, battle damage pieces and bone claws as a bonus, it would be the perfect Wolverine figure.

What I love about 97' is they nailed the claws from the toon and the original Uncanny X-Men comics! Mafex has better paint and articulation, but, 97' I feel, captured the overall look with that sculpt. And also, ML feels more sturdy and ham-hands friendly when compared to Mafex. If Hasbro Added a pinch more articulated spots on their version, I think ML Wolvie would completely shred Mafex!
