Figure collecting Ben Reilly fans got it good lately, both ML and Mafex Scarlet Spiders are great releases and the Mafex Spectacular Spider-Man got a reissue recently too

The ML is great and I don't regret getting it, but the cloth hoodie and magnetic hands (on top of all the other accessories) puts the Mafex as the superior version IMO. Luckily I am able to have both, but for anyone on a budget the ML is solid and will likely satisfy your needs for a Ben figure.

Found Tombstone, Goblin Queen and Angel recently, but no Ben Reilly yet. I will definitely be getting the ML one though. I had briefly considered spending extra money for the previous retro-carded ML for its lovely darker red, but after stewing on it, the new ML's better details and RYV articulation can't be beat.

The ML Scarlet Spider is so good looking. The sculpt on the hoodie and the headsculpt are perfect. For my tastes, it's the first Scarlet Spider figure in this scale that I actually like enough to own. My only real problems with it are that the web shooter gauntlets are a bit oversized, and the vestigial boot cut from the original body looks weird on a single color body. The additional value in the Mafex figure really isn't worth the near 500% price increase to me, especially when the figure is a lot less aesthetically appealing to me. The additional articulation is nice, but the Marvel Legends figure has as much as I'd ever really want. The hands and web accessories are mostly unnecessary. I like the ML headsculpt more than all three of the Mafex ones, and I have plenty of web accessories already. The only features from the Mafex I would really miss are the web holding hands and the ability to put the hood up. Besides that there's nothing that would make me pick it over the Marvel Legends. I would really like to see Mafex do comic versions of Spider-Gwen and Black Cat, because for my money there haven't been truly good figures of either of them yet. I would love to see their takes on Green Goblin, Scorpion, Shocker, Doc Ock and Mysterio, too.

I went all in on Mafex for comic Peter Parkers (and genetic equivalents) and I definitely don’t regret having regular Spidey, Symbiote, Scarlet, and Spider-Ben all on basically the same buck with a bunch of articulation and accessories. However I will give Hasbro props for rising to the challenge, and I still rely on them for my Miles and armored Pete figures.

I got pretty unlucky with my copy of the Mafex, a lot of little QC issues that just dont make it fun to handle. Bums me out cause I adore their Classic Spidey figure. Still pre ordered their comic 2099 cause I never liked the Marvel Legends one. Of course now that I've done that watch hasbro announce a new 2099 on the RYV body.

Wish hasbruh would have added an unmasked ben head like they did with the last release, but i think they did a dope job. And since the mafex is way over my budget this is one of the few times i prefer a ml over a mafex, another banger vid jason 😎

The mafex is a fantastic figure with a ton of accessories but this review reminded me why I passed on it. None of the 3 heads are what I think of when I hear Scarlet Spider. Meanwhile the legends head is exactly how I see him in my mind, which is why I preordered him right away. I do wish he came with an unmasked head but the mafex doesn’t either so he’s not losing points in a comparison

I finally jumped the gun on a scarlet spider figure. I kept comparing between the ML and mafex version. I ended up getting the mafex. I feel like it looks much more agile in proportions. It comes at a higher price for sure but ill never have to get another scarlet spider

Whichever you can get your hands on for a good price. Popular Legends figures are hard to buy at retail unless you preorder. I won't be surprised if the Scarlet Spiderman is commanding a price of $70 by the end of the year.

The mafex hoodie is accurate to a comic cover (idk if it's the first appearance of this suit) no idea why they based it on that, also the ML hoodie does interfere with the butterfly joint, it barely moves compared to the mafex

The thing both of these guys miss, and seemingly most modern superhero toys is that stylized shading. No a figure is never going to look exactly like a 2D drawing but when Ben Reilly is drawn in this costume he’s almost never bright red, something the Spiderverse movie got very right. If Hasbro (but especially Mafex since they’re WAY less affordable) started to do more shading it would set these figures over the top. Until then these figures just look kinda off.

I think a strong argument can be made that MAFEX is objectively better in terms of things like engineering, plastic quality, piece count, etc., but I'm happy with Legends.

Legends is the winner for me. Is how I picture the Scarlet Spider, compared to the mafex is how I picture Scarlet Spider at the end of the month starving him self to make ends meet.

If you can afford Mafex, buy those. Just better..you get what you pay for. That said, this Hasbro version is good enough at the price point. You will save money & get a decent version. BUT..if they charge one single cent more without giving more accessories or higher quality.. STOP buying Hasbro products. The cost to quality is becoming an issue.

Not seeing how articulation is a tie. Legends crunching maybe 5 degrees more than mafex does not put it above mafex. The legends torso articulation system is inferior in almost every way other than that one specific area of crunching forward/backward while perfectly straight. Any pose with the figure crunching forward and tilting to the side at all looks awkward because the entire lower half of the torso isn’t moving; all the rotation and nuance comes from the upper torso joint, meaning only the upper torso moves where you want it to. It contorts the body too much. Double ball pegs like mafex or even the reversed system that gijoe classified uses is much better than legends. Two figures having the same joint doesn’t mean they automatically have the same quality of articulation. Medicoms butterfly joints work better than Hasbro’s, which is the case with this figure. Due to Hasbro’s ineptness when it comes to designing a simple double ball peg neck, mafex wins in that department. Mafex also takes the wrists. You can argue “well Mafex is 50-60 dollars more than legends, so it evens out” but then there’s no point in having a price section since price is factored into the other categories Also for presentation, you can argue attention to detail for the legends but better proportions than the Mafex is just kinda wrong. Mafex is skinnier/lankier which is a legitimate concern if one prefers a bulkier Ben, but anatomically the legends is worse with really weirdly shaped shoulders that sit way too low and are generally too small. As for hiding joints, sure the legends does it better than the mafex, but I’m not sure how that is more of an issue and carries more weight than the overall inaccurate and muted colors on the legends.

Sorry but to me there's no comparison. Mafex is soooo small and puny. Legends literally looks like Bagley's art made action figure. To me anytime you can even compare a Legends to it's Mafex counterpart, the Legends wins automatically. For that exaggerated price, Mafex SHOULD be the best, no questions.

I prefer the hasbro look it's figure version is more durable. We shouldn't compare kids toys with adult toys 🧸 but the hasbro version is a bit more affordable and it won't come apart like the adult mafex ones that's not meant to play with much as the hasbro. Both versions figures got their faults don't be fooled some mafex figures are overrated .
